Any 1.8t head will work on any 1.8t block. You will just need to make sure that the correct cam tensioner and cam pulley are being used for the motor it is on.

I m the guy you are trying to buy the head from. I found this info while searching not sure if it true or not...Any help would be great so i can ship this head out and help him out. Thanks
The head that is on my cousins 2001 1.8t is an AWM so the list is true so far.

    97-99.5 = AEB (Large-port head, forged pistons, 20mm wristpins)
00 = ATW (Small-port head, same bottom end as the AEB)
01 = AWM (Same head casting as ATW, but uses a VVT controller instead of a standard cam tensioner, and uses a 06A block, with cast pistons and 19mm wristpins)

if you have an AEB it is best to find another AEB, there will not be a drop in and go solution unless you get another AEB.

2001 AWM head would work fine, drop in and go. You could swap the tensioner if you wanted to (easy), but just leaving it unplugged will work fine. Then you'll need to block off the SAI port (or make sure it comes with the combi valve and just leave it attached to plug the hole). You'd also need to change the shutter wheel for the cam sensor with the one from the old head. The intake manifold ports will be a little mismatched, but I doubt it would be noticeable on a dd anyway.

So, it would certainly work if you had to, but getting another AEB head would be ideal.

It can be bolted on, you would just have to swap the cam chain tensioner and cam pulley from your AEB head. Then get a transition intake manifold gasket if you plan on using the AEB large port intake manifold on the small port head.
