    Transmission Removal

So i know the first time i took my tranny out i wished i had some sort off write up to go off of, so i figured why not try to make one. Now i am not a professional but i do have a little experience which is why i decided to attempt this job.

    Tools Needed:
    Jack
    Jack Stands
^^^Unless you have a lift you able to use
    Air Compressor
    1/2 Impact Gun
    3/8 Air Ratchet
    Flat Head Screw Driver
    3/8 Swivels
    10mm Triple Square
    12mm Triple Square
    6mm Allen socket
    8mm Allen socket and Key
    10mm Socket
    13mm Socket and Wrench
    16mm Socket and Wrench
    18mm Socket
1/2 to 3/8 Step Down Socket
    Rubber Mallet
    Loctite
    Various Length extensions
    3/8 ratchet

It is also a good idea to replace the gasket that goes between the DP and Cat and also the seal between the drive shaft and were it mounts to the tranny. The OEM part# for the exhaust gasket is 1H0-253-115 or it can be found on ECS part# ES#302402 or ES#1571 the drive shaft gasket i couldn’t find an oem # but it can be found on jhmotorsports.com part# OEM-B567DFG

First disconnect the negative terminal on the battery

Next you have to get the car up in the air i had to use blocks under my jack stand to raise it up about 4 more inches because the jack stands were not high enough so i could slide the tranny out from under the car

Next Remove the skid plate there are a couple plastic flathead screw 3 in the back 1 in front of each wheel and there are five holes up front but mine only had 2 up front

Next remove the bracket that held the rear of the skid plate up there are 2 10mm hex head bolts

Next there is cross bar a little further back that needs to be removed there are 4 (2 on each side0#10 triple square bolts holding it up

Next remove the heat shield over the passenger side drive axle there are 3 6mm allen bolts holding it on

Use an air ratchet with a couple of extensions i had a 6" and an 8" together a 3/8 swivel and the 6mm allen socket (it may be necessary to loosen it up with the allen key first)
Next remove both drive axles there are 6 #10 triple squares on each side

Next remove the DP there are 3 bolts connecting it to the CAT (they are 12 or 13 mm can’t remember) 1 bolt in a bracket of the side of the tranny nut and bolt are 13mm and loosen up the one side of the clamp in back which is also a 13mm then just wiggle it out

Next you also want to disconnect the the rear section of exhaust from the middle by loosening the front bolt are the 2 clamps(these are the same type of clamps you loosened on the back of the DP) these are also 13mm (This is disconnected so there is enough room so you can wiggle the drive shaft away from the transmission)

Next take out the six bolt holding the drive shaft to the transmission these are 6mm allen bolts (You can use an impact or a ratchet but with a ratchet you have to apply the handbrake loosen 2 bolts remove handbrake spin shaft apply and loosen 2 more) then tap it a couple time with a rubber mallet and it will fall free however you will not be able to completely move it out of the way

Next further back there is a heat shield were the drive shaft support is there are 2 plastic clips that can be removed using a flat head screwdriver and 2 13mm bolts when you loosen the 2 bolts the supports will drop down with it just hold the drive shaft up and slide the heat shield out leave the support hang down go back up front and you should be able to wiggle the drive shaft away from the transmission then just put the 2 bolts back in to hold the center mount up

Now it’s time for the tranny bolts there are 11 bolts all of them 16mm but 1 on the passenger side has an 18mm nut 2 of them for the starter all of them but 1 are accessible from under the car since none of them are too easy to get to with an impact gun i used a wrench to break them all free and then the 3/8 air ratchet some extensions and a swivel to take them all the way out
We will start with the hardest one to get to it is only accessible from the top and it is straight down from the fuel pump there may be a bundle of wires it front of it (When putting this bolt back in there are a couple holes 3 if I remember correctly in that area it will be the one furthest to the right )
The next bolt on the left side or the passenger side is next to the cat you can reach it from the top or underneath the car this one will be holding a wire bundle

Next bolt is on the right or drivers side also accessible from up top or underneath and it will also be holding a wire bundle

From here the rest can only be reached from under the car there are 3 bolt on the very bottom right by the sub frame i used a wrench to break them free and and air ratchet a swivel and a couple extensions to take them all the way out, all three of the bolts are the same length

Now from under the car on the passenger side there are 3 bolts 2 of them are for the starter (AT THIS POINT IF YOU HAVE NOT DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY DO SO NOW) and the other is the bolt with the nut on it. I took a picture of the two starter bolts they are the only 2 that don’t have threads the full length of the bolt

And the last 2 are on the drivers side there is a bolt with an odd shaped head that fits to a groove on the transmission and there is a nut on the other side the other is a little futher up that side

Here is a picture just for reference of the three top bolts the left is the passenger side the middle is the well middle bolt and the right is the driver side

Now you need to disconnect the shifter linkage and the slave cylinder on the passenger side there is a plug and 2 bolts and a plug first disconnect the plug the you will need an 8mm allen key this is for the bolt that is behind that plug (I just used the allen key to break the bolt loose the I got an 8mm allen socket and my fingers to turn it all the way out since it takes forever using the allen key) then a little further forward in the top of the part that had the plug connected to it there is and 11mm bolt

Next on the driver side you have another bolt that is a little bit back from the slave cylinder this is also an 11mm then the the slave cylinder just has a clip that you have to pop back so you can pull the hose out. I don’t have a picture of the slave cylinder because I already had it replace with a metal one which does not connect the same way

Now with all the tranny bolts out and all the shifter linkage disconnected you need to support the tranny with a jack if you have not done so already I found it is also a good idea to use something (aka another jack or just a length of wood that is the right size) to hold the subframe up as well
Once the transmission is supported you will want to loosen the six bolts on the cross member that has the tranny mount on it these are 18mm bolts

Now you just have to lower and wiggle it out
Now with the tranny out take a look at your pilot bearing it is hard to see unless you have the pressure plate off. It is a good idea to replace this bearing and at only 5 something a piece there not an expensive part, when trying to get it out just get a bearing puller I got one from harbor freight for like 20 bucks I tried the wet paper method and it is just a waste of time because of how small the bearing is. The mfg # is 056105313C I found it on ecs but its not listed in the b7 setion you have to search in the b6 section
