Just got a new K&N drop in and a 034inlet, I know some people have taken out the noise reducing padding in the stock box for a bigger turbo "sneeze" as i like to put it. - Is there any pictures or instructions on how to do this? I searched the tech area and couldn't find anything, and I really didnt want to start taking apart my air intake.

lol you're definitely going to need to. The hardest part it dealing with the overhead (grill to box) tube, and you need to take that out to do the inlet pipe.
No one wants a ripped open box...sorry, couldn't resist. I took mine out, this is before I put the Carbonio in. It definitely adds a deeper "tone" to the intake if that makes sense.
2007 Audi A4 S-Line 2.0T FSI - APR Stage II+, APR HPFP, JHM 4:1 Center Differential, Carbonio (APR) intake, AWE Tuning FMIC, 034 Motorsport turbo inlet pipe, BSH catch can, OEM "D" DV, APR test pipe, Neuspeed exhaust, H&R coilovers, ECS Stage 4 BBK with Pagid pads, RS4 rear sway bar, Neuspeed short shift, Neuspeed snub mount, Defi MeterBF gauges with Defi-Link, Vag'd, de-badged, Huper Optik tint, RS4 grille, EU amber tails, 19" Hartmann RS4 replicas and H&R Trak+ wheel spacers
It's things like this that make me happy I no longer need to worry about revision DVs, upgraded PCV systems, opening air boxes, or basically anything that has to do with fucking about on the stock motor
I just yanked mine out, it wa nice when the box was clean inside, whenever there was sand, animal nests, leaves in there it would rustle around and be super annoying. So I just bought a p flow cone the other day strapped it onto the maf/ custom heat shielding. Sounds much better.
its intended use is not to deaden the sound. its supposed to put out a fire in your engine bay if you ever get one. i took mine off on my gti like 10 years ago and it didnt ruin the paint or anything

I took my padding out of my air box last night and hear no difference at all. And for those of you that think it will be just unclipping a couple things... it's not. I took the box out, threw a long allen wrench down the skinny hole, beat it with a hammer, and that's how I got those damn clips out.
Oh well, it just had some dirt on it. They didnt make changing air filters the easiest thing on our cars did they?

Remove airbox, and oem filter, replace with any dry cone filter. And boom, you have a "custom" intake with your spooling noise...
Heat shield came off with the box, I just never thought about it. IIRC, I think 3" cone, If anything just use couplers to size up or down. Cleaning the intake now is a breeze.
I now have a 034 TIP heat wrapped just like the pictures stock inlet pipe. It doesn't really make a difference as far as heat sink, Our cars are still gonna get heat sink no matter what, unless you get a fmic

After I'll change my timing belt I'll get some logs with
1. the stock air box on
2. the custom CAI I have on
3. the Cone filter sitting in the engine bay with no heat shield
and be put and end to all these speculations. I'll record boost, IAT, MAF, but my question is how I get logs for power or torque with VAG-com? cause at the end I guess that's all that matters.
There's probably no accuracy in logging power numbers with VAG-com on a modified car ??
EDIT: but ^ this option is the easiest and cheapest I've ever seen. Doesn't look bad either. So instead of getting a ~40 K&N drop in just get a ~40 cone filter, nice...

I started a thread where someone already did this. It was called something like 'restrictive oem air intake'. Turns out that our OEM air boxes flow better (more and colder) air than the cone. At least with our K03's and I would assume with a K04 and K0R too. BT you would probably want a cone, and vented to the pass side SMIC since you would probably have a front mount by then
I yanked the padding off both the hood and inside the airbox as soon as I got the car. The airbox padding is meant to suppress noise, but I don't think the effort was worth it. I just hated the way the padding under the hold looked, plus I clean my bay constantly in the summer and it got wet and looked worse...ran without it for over a year through summer and winter with no ill effects to paint.

I thought for a sec about doing the cone mod too but I think if anything it would just suck in hot air rather than the well flowing oem box that gets its cold air through the grill....
