I had my 94 camry repainted a year and a half ago (it looks great for as cheap as I got it..) and since then I have noticed one spot on my front passenger door directly under the door handle that is about 4 inches across or so. There is no dent or anything, and the paint is fine, but for some reason no matter how much I clay bar, seal, and wax, it will never get shiny. It almost looks like just that one spot was painted with a flat paint instead of gloss, but I know it wasnt. Any idea how to fix this?

I am not home right now, and wont be until late tonight, but I can take a picture tomorrow afternoon while its sunny to show what I am talking about.

Pics will definitely help. Was the repaint multi-stage (i.e. clearcoat on top of basecoat)? Total stab-in-the-dark first guess is clearcoat failure....although that usually manifests itself in splotchy looking circles. You mention claying - have you tried any polishing?

might be excessive orange peel, but a picture is worth a thousand words.

no it was only a one stage paint (I didn't want anything overly expensive just to fix the chips so i didnt get rust.). I haven't tried polishing other than what was in the clay bar kit, and the caranuba wax I have.

Sorry but I'm pretty new to this.. what do you mean by "orange peel"?

And I will post a picture today. Not sure how well you will be able to see it though. The weatherman said sun but its snowing right now. haha

My guess is that some polishing will likely bring out some gloss...the area is either oxidized, was never polished, or as OTDetailer mentioned, maybe they hit it last with too much air and not enough paint coming out. If it's worth a few bucks, you can try some OTC polishes - Meguiar's Scratch-X 2.0, or their rubbing compound. Both are easy to use by hand, and may yield some results.

Thanks for the suggestions. Ill work on getting a picture in a little while, but not sure how it will work since its snowing. I may run by autozone though and grab some polish. It will give me something to do this weekend instead of homework
