MY BACKGROUND
i returned from the middle east about 2 weeks from a year long tour in the army. i've driven a 91 jeep wrangler since i was 16, until it turned into a rock crawler with 40" tires and blah blah blah all the goods. I recently bought a manual 06 A4 Quattro. My goals with my A4 are simple, exhaust, intake, tint, wheels, maybe a 93 octane tune and maybe a little lower depending on my wheel choice. So my questions are, what are the companies to look at for things like an iphone/ipod connection (i have symphony 2 with RNS and bluetooth buttons but they dont do anything) where do i look for nice wheels i can get custom painted, what front bumpers will will be straight bolt on to my A4. does anyone make a better sway bar for this car where do i get the 93 octane tune? This car is my new dd so i cant go to crazy with it yet, but i can do a lot, i am a machinist and a mechanic and i have a lot of fab expierence so there's almost nothing i cant do, but i've never jumped into the tuning scene so i'm blind. what ever info you got through it at me and keep you all updated as i mod this little Audi.

Welcome Home and thank you for your service.
I retired from the Army on Memorial day 2010, and since have been modding my 06 A3.
You will find tons of info in this forum. As for shopping hit the resources bar at top right of page and hit merchants, and page through them for all the right parts. shop carefully as prices vary from vendor to vendor, often for the same parts.
Killer!! i can't believe i missed that thread, it answers almost everything i need thanks waite!
Yes, you would have gotten flamed if you weren't a soldier lol. Welcome back man! That thread should pretty well cover it and if not just Google your question and the first 10 results are normally audizine links...
^ x2 :D Welcome back! I started modding my manual B7 last year... Can't say I've gotten too far yet but I had the same dreams and glint-in-my-eye as you...
A4 B7 2.0 6MT BB Sports Susp Non-S Go/Stay: Almost fully stock-yet!, Akebono rears, RS4 rear sway, K&N Drop In, 034 Turbo Inlet Hose, Stern Snub Mount, 640 Mod Show: VAGCOM Stuff, Cupra R Lip, LED interior, Tinted Tails, RS4 Pedals+Shifter, Fly's V4s w/ Philips White Halogens, Hoen Xenon Match

Please explain how being a soldier exempts you from being flamed for noob questions. DRAK is a man of the service and people bust his balls continually (including me). jeepbone seems like a good chap, and I would say be cool just cause he is a newly indoctrinated Audi enthusiast, regardless of his day job.

EDIT - wording sounded gay, and had to change.
he asked a noob question, he did not have the world's most penis-loving grille (shane i am looking directly at you)
and he is a soldier....

I had to hold back an outright laugh, so people at my office didn't think I wasn't working. Or wait, ya...

EDIT - I got that part, but what I was asking is WHY being a soldier automatically implies respect. I have a couple of buddies that are insistent that if you are in a position of authority, that you automatically should garner respect. They say that all cops deserve respect because their jobs are hard and they are serving the people. But thinking back, I don't think I have met many cops that I would say after getting to know them that I respect them. Also, I have known several people that joined up in the service because they just didn't want to go to college at the time and thought this a good way to "see the world". Not saying it is a bad thing, but I didn't automatically respect them more for doing so.
So the question stands, why is being a soldier a method of gaining automatic respect?
i think of soldiers in higher personal ranking than police officers personally, maybe its bc i live in a town that has no crimes and they act like they go through hell. but a soldier in my eyes, is willing to give up everything for a service for the country, i can;t imagine how difficult it must be to be overseas and away from your sig other, for upwards of years. i have a few buddies who are marines and sometimes when they talk about thier missions they get a little choked up based on what they saw and stuff.
so a soldier in my eyes gets respect....not about thier car or car questions, but i am more incline to tell the person where they can find the answer before flaming them....

for the ipod/iphone connection you can get a Blitzsafe unit but if you want bluetooth as well, I'd yank the factory system and get a Kenwood/Pioneer/etc.. OEM is nice & all, but the bluetooth parts are like $400+ easily, and you can buy a new unit for that much that will also let you watch DVDs. Oh yeah... the factory NAV is CD-ROM based!!! Ridiculous to use such dated tech! Anyway, welcome to the forums and thanks for your service.
Are you like 13? Would you like multiple links to piles that run under the name of service? Are you jackwagon right now to that sweet grill? You gotsa be from a southern town of less than 6 people and married to your sister.

EDIT - And let me guess, high school grad talked into being patriotic by never questioning the guy stealing your real freedom? right? I thought so.
The only way to properly initiate a new guy is through a good thread jack. Though, I don't think you can thread jack a noob question, given that usually they just end in people flaming the poor new guy. Instead I propose that this is the opposite; it is actually prolonging a thread that would have otherwise ended quietly.

I'm embarrassed that the men and women who serve our country even have to read your ignorant posts.

Please link to all your logical, intelligent, and thought out posts that you have contributed to the community. I have gone back looking for them, and they seem absent. You just drive me nuts because all your responses hold no value, so I inappropriately mocked you to see if you would come up with a real answer like the one shik gave. So don't feel embarrassed for me, but THINK about a genuine answer to a question next time rather than quoting song lyrics, and you won't get flamed. If you ever wanted to help those who serve our country, you would look for ways to keep them safe and at home rather than deployed and in danger. This starts by questioning WHY it is right to do things, rather than just blindly accepting them.

The cheaper this car gets the more this forum goes down the drain.../rant talk amongst yourselves
Not true. The people taking you to task in this instance aren't the people dragging the forum down the drain either. Your sentiment belies your arrogance, you're assuming that because someone is too poor to afford a $40k car that they shouldn't be allowed to post on your forum?
What a cheaper audi means is that more people who couldn't afford an audi now can get one. You take the good with the bad. If Audi's didn't trickle down in cost your precious b7 forum would be like the b8 forum. I bunch of somewhat wealthy guys sharing pics of their wheels, discussing the merits of various chips and being a relative wasteland of useful info like DIYs on fixes and repairs.
Look at the B6 forum for hints on where it all leads. Its not all bad. The b6 forum has its share of nimrods, but the average poster is generally helpful and knowledgeable. Most are a lot less of a dick, most of the time, than you are. Your posts are often inflammatory and rude. Maybe thats just who you are, maybe its not. But you should think about how you represent yourself if you want to be taken seriously...

^agreed...sometimes I check out the b8 section trying to gain some knowledge about the car in case I ever buy one, but it is so useless. Just pictures and random nonsense(with few informative threads).
the B7 forum definitely is crowded and there is alot of people who ask questions that could be answered by the search button(myself included), but there is so much information. Ever since I got involved in this forum, I have not taken my car anywhere for service or troubleshooting. With all the information here you can fix 99% of the issues you would get on the b7, and still find interesting projects to keep you working on your car.

The B6 forum is even better w/ regards to useful information. The difference being nobody with a b6 has a warranty and they're all old enough where everything starts breaking. So everyone is DIYing and finding novel/cheap/better-than-OEM solutions to problems. I've had to dig in to my b6 a number of times in the 8 months I've owned it, but its never seen a shop floor, and it's running far better now than when I bought it from the dealership.
I've found the b7 forum hit or miss, especially when it comes to more complex problems, but its still an invaluable resource and there are some good dudes on here as well.

Whats wrong with a 17 year old drive a B7? Thats when I got mine.
Not sure. I drove a nearly new Saab 9-3 SE when I was 17. I also crashed my previous 900 into a ditch when I was still 16. I drove to fast, what can I say. I got over it.
Audi's DO carry a lot more prestige than a Saab despite the similar sticker prices. And I do realise I was a bit of a "rich bastard" growing up. I appreciate what I've earned now FAR more than anything I've ever been given though...

Even though I said /rant I will put one last thing out there and then I am truly over it. So here it goes, I like how I am the bad guy in all this when my point was simply I will be more patient with our military men/women when it comes to flaming because of their service. Call me crazy but yes I think someone DESERVES respect when they just spent a year of their life over seas for OUR country, regardless of the reason they signed up they are still serving. So yes I am all those things described above because I believe that way...unbelievable nobody agrees with me....
