My friend has my 2001 B5 1.8TQ and it is approaching 400,000 km. Regular maintenance repairs only, plus Audi recently replaced all 4 doors and the trunk lid under the rust warranty.

Seen A4 1.8Ts with 400+, and S4s with 450+ on original turbos.

Pretty much the only way for them to die is the owner gives up on them, or maint was neglected so bad that a $3k bill on a car worth $4k means its going to the scrapper.

Returned my 2001.5 A4 at the end of the lease. A few weeks before that, pulled up to a friend's place and two of them standing out on the street commented that there was a puff of smoke that came out of the front of the car then something didn't sound right. Thinking it was the timing belt tensioner. Told the dealer about this as an FYI. Car was well under the 80,000km limit. I think the car was pissed off at me for returning it back to the dealer and tried to make my life miserable but failed :)

Oh then there's my other 2001.5 A4 that had a spun crankshaft bearing in the first week so that engine was toast and the dealer replaced my car without me asking, even a leased vehicle.

Audi Canada made me give my B5 back prior to lease end ... they said "we'll forgive and forget if you lease a new one and please take this avant with a .9% lease rate". Loved the B5 but I'm no dummy ... Paid $60 less per month, avoided new tires and brakes as well as got free service for the next 4 yrs/ 80 kms. Actually, I'm on my 5th Audi now and none of the odometers went beyond 100k. There must be something wrong with that ??!?

My '01 has 312K. Original turbo. AOC just painted the hood/fender/trunk on their dime. Nice. That 12 year paint warranty is no joke! Would be awesome to see 400K before retiring it.

Where on these parts was it rusting through, did you go through Pfaff for the service?

Mine seems like a young pup still then, my '01 has only 196K

I remember when ours were close in kilometerage (is that even a word?)!

The pass-side fender started to bubble right at 12o' of the wheelwell. Paint then chipped off to the bare metal.

The trunk started to bubble bad in the license plate pocket, under where the plate lights are.

The hood had some stone chips. When the approval came back it said the hood will be painted too. Maybe it was to blend the paint with the fender?

You start a claim with the dealer's service dept. (PFAFF in this case). They submit some info and pictures to AOC. Within a couple of days it came back approved. PFAFF's paint shop did the work.

I heard Audi's paint process is dusting the panels with Ostrich feathers before applying the paint. At least with the current 2012 cars anyway.

See now thats what Im asking. Story's about how many KM/Miles on the car before the engine dies or what not. 400k is wow. My turbo looks like it may have a little drip of oil coming out of it. So I was just seeing if that was some what normal.

And had I known about AOC painting cars I would have done that. I got the car painted last year.
