Thinking of Selling my Other Project

Kind of sad of the thought but I havent drove this car more than 400 miles in the past year and a half.

My dad's old 89 Caravan. lol

    Pics because no one understands...

Vans are a hoot to beat up on people because no one expects them. Kind of tapering away from the old domestic cars due to their lack of quality and capabilites. The engine in the van will struggle every bit to make just 400 WHP. No one has made more than 550 on these whereas our 2.7 and VR6's that I'm used to can do that all day long without sweating hard. Plus I cant put my 2 month old in the van either.

Problem is if I sold it back to my dad (needs to stay in the family) then I wouldnt have a toy or a car I could drag race frequently and not worry about breaking it.

If it did sell it, it would only buy coilovers and a VAST tip chip and ECU reflash. Granted that would make for a deep 13 sec almost 12 second A6 with the rest of the work I have done.

Do you guys think it would be worth losing something like this? I dont expect half of you to understand it because most do not drag race here, but I was born and raised in the sport. However, I have seen the ever-so bright light of quality German engineering and fell in love ever since my VR6T MK4 GTI days.

I remember the first time I saw a turbo Caravan blast an unsuspecting Camaro at the drag strip years ago. I think if you are over the "On my god . . . is that a minivan?" reaction and want to go faster then I say sell it and move to something faster. Like you said, it's already pretty close to it's peak. Maybe move on to a turbo Volvo wagon and get the same reaction.

I grew up drag racing (motorcycles) so I totally get where you are coming from. I say hang on to it. While I will say the caravans of that vintage are as ugly as homemade sin, they make a fantastic sleeper and they are always going to steel the show at the strip. Who the hell expects a mini-van to actually hall ass down the track? no one. They didn't when it started happening and now that the craze is over, they won't expect it just as much.

Besides. If you unload it, you will just regret it. From the pics, the outside looks to be super clean. Keep it and have your fun with it. If you don't, you will just keep playing with the A6 till you break something and then you won't even have the van to get by on.

I started my time at the track on my brand new 1983 Honda z50 when I was 5-6 years old. I only parted with it about 10 years ago because it went to a kid that was just as in love with bikes as I was and his family couldn't afford to get him a new bike. So I gave it to him. It's still in that family as they added another son a few years later and now that little boy rides it. Last time I saw them, the bike still looked like the day my dad bought it, though they did have to replace the seat finally.

Hell yeah. Nothing more fun than one tire fires in an FWD people carrier.
    Cheers! :-)

Wow, I must say I expected no support on keeping it. Funny thing is on the forum for the van (turbo-mopar.com) they ripped me to pieces for buying the Audi. Another reason why I'm not interested over there. The community and support sucks.

If I did keep it it needs a few things to make it right still. HY35. Turbo, fuel pump, rail, set of 52# injectors and an AFPR. Maybe a grand worth of work but that could net some deep 13s on it. Its already built and ready for abuse. The bottom end has JE pistons, ARP main studs, head studs, rod bolts, 005 mopar headgasket. Good for over 400-500 whp reliably.

You have. Excellent points Callmus. If I didn't have a car to wrecklessly beat the shit out of I may take the abuse on the Audi. Which is always three times more expensive to fix. Lol btw I always had much respect for guys that can race bikes properly. Takes some big church bells to run a bike down the track. :)

My dad has 2 more vans as well. Ill post pics of those later. The special one has ran 13.25 at 104 at just 18psi and no nitrous. Were trying to put that one into the. 11s this year.

Sounds like you've got some good clean family drag racing fun going on. As far as the church bells, well I think it takes the same set to go down a track in/on anything.
