    PCV screw hole stripped

    Hey guys,

I was inspecting my PCV Valve Saturday and when I was putting it on, I noticed the front-most screw was stripped in the Valve Cover. It just kept spinning. I'm guessing someone servicing it stripped it. In fact all the threads in teh Valve Cover looked pretty mangled.

I believe the PCV is holding firm and hopefully not leaking. There was oily residue all over that corner, but I think it was from the breather tube just towards the front of the engine from the PCV as it appeared to not be fully clipped on.

Whether its leaking or not, what can I do to salvage the Valve cover. I'd rather not have to buy a new one just because the damn PCV wont seal due to the screw?

The plastic ones strip out very easily, unfortunately... It may still be sealing, though. Clean off the area, drive the car for a few days, and check again.

Some people have actually retapped the hole. I would try that first before going out and buying a new one

Heli-coil and maybe some RTV. I had to do that to my rear most PCV screw.

There's a 10/120k warranty on it starting from year 2005 (engine code BPG) and up to 2008. Bring it in the dealership and let them take care of it.

I'm aware of the PCV warranty. I'm probably eligible for it as I've got the "L" revision PCV but I'm more worried about the Valve Cover. I doubt Audi would cover the replacement of it...

Hopefully I can get the correct size helicoil for it. With Helicoils, do you need to use normal bolts or will the self-tapping screws that the pcv uses work? I've never used Helicoils before so I'm completely unaware of exactly how they work...

^^I remembered reading about someone from this forum has had their valve cover replaced under warranty because of excessive oil leaks caused by the pcv. Might wanna think of something....and then ask your dealer about it.
