I got that shit from some a few numbers in Chicago when I've been trying to sell my old B37's snow tires. I've decided to sell locally only since I have no interest in getting screwed over by someone or shipping them for that matter.

I've been seeing more of these scammers too when I'm selling car parts or other household items online. Their responses are always cut-and-paste style, non-specific to the item you're selling, and they're always extremely anxious to buy your item. So much so that they'll mention in their initial e-mail to provide them with your PayPal account info and they'll directly transfer you funds without seeing the item. I mean, they'd come look at the item but they're currently away on business or the item is actually a gift for a friend or cousin of their's located in Africa. You know the deal.
What do they do with your PayPal account info anyways?

No idea. My favorite is when they send the somewhat generic cut and paste but then ask questions that are answered in the 1st few sentences. I have a personal rule never to respond to someone who doesn't read stuff and asks dumb questions. I break that rule when I'm selling any big ticket item, like a laptop for example, since the payoff is much to big to be a dick!

This describes 90% of craigslisters. lol
LOL had this guy show up one time to my house for a Queen mattress I was selling. Hopped out of his 80s Chrysler minivan, bluetooth earpiece and all. Walked into my garage, took one look at the mattress and said "will full size sheets fit this?"

Never delt with this. Cant someone post an actual e mail that they have recieve from a scammer? I dont quite understand how this works? Do they pay pal you the money and then ask you to send the item? I would never send something, if I didnt recieve the loot fisrt. I usually try to sell things loaclly as well. I would rather meet up with a person then send them money electronically. I have had sucess with ppl in the classifieds section, but only because I check their seller ratings first, and see what other ppls reactions are that have done business with said seller in the past.

They send you money, then have a mule collect the items, then claim the charge was fraudulent. Then they sell the stolen items. With all these internet payments etc, anonymity is the key as there is very little recourse for those who got screwed.
Used to they would pay you a larger amount, the overage for "Shipping/handling" etc with the stipulation that you are to wire the overage some where or give the overage to whomever picks up the parts, then they dispute the charge and your out the money for the parts, the parts, and the additional money. I don't see why anyone would participate in such obvious scams.

Im assuming the issue here is since some asshole picks it up in person there is no tracking provided for proof when they fight the charge?

My aunt fell for something like this. But he was smart, convinced her that he was, somewhere, cant remember where. But she eventual found out it was a scam, caught the kid, who was in high school and contacted his mother. Now, believe it or not, shes pretty good friends with the kid. They talk via skype, she helps him with work, etc. She also got him to stop scamming and get a real job. No joke.

Haha thats kind of awesome.
I had my credit card number stolen 8 years ago, used to leave my wallet in my car unlocked at my parents house way back in HS (dumb I know). They guy wrote the number down, ordered like $200 in groceries to his house and paid for his dogs vet bill. I saw the charge for the VET and saw they were local, so we called and they gave us the kids name and address. Apparently he had told them it was his parents card, and since they knew his parents they let it slide. Called the police, and they caught the kid the next day. Turns out he'd been collared before for the same thing when the cop ran the guys name. I actually felt bad about the Vet, since I'm a dog owner myself, but honestly, how stupid can you get...
I am generally a very skeptical person so anything that sounds too good to be true, I feel always is. Also I fucking hate Craigslist people. I was selling my old iPhone (iPhones are creeper magnets on craigslist btw) and some obnoxious lady showed up to buy it after agreeing on my price, tried to give me half of that (after showing up 20 minutes late and spending 15 minutes on the phone blabbering in Chinese to her cousin who she was sending to phone to to sell in China). She tried to tell me because there were a few scuff from the case on the phone and because she was going to be reselling it in China, that I should somehow accept 1/2 of what we agreed to over the phone ($220 so she was trying to bargain me down to 120 or something). I told her to fuck off and sold it to another guy 15 minutes later for $200. The guy was polite, courteous, and paid me right away, no dithering or bargaining.

thats not how it works. they send you the money and somehow retract the payment back from your paypal in 24 hours or less. once you see the money in your account you ship thinking they cant retract thier payment. I know theres ways to retract your money back in under 24 hour periods. then when you follow up its traced back to a rogue african and paypal wont fork up for this which makes them an unsafe company to send money with!

Thank you for saying this! EVERYONE on here uses PayPal. In fact, pretty much everyone everywhere uses paypal. I can't understand why. I don't use PayPal because they are an unsafe company and they've screwed me over in the past. I tell people this when trying to make transactions. I think they get a little nervous and think "scammer" when, really, I just refuse to give my money away to a company who won't back their claims. Paypal scares me. It sucks that it's used everywhere. People end up with a false sense of security.
