Wouldn't pay $7,500 for that car based on your description, that's for damn sure.
Turbos are most likely on their way out with a "high pitched wine" and the 105k service hasn't been performed yet. IMO, you're just asking for trouble with that car.
I find it ironic that the colors red, white, and blue represent freedom until they are flashing behind you.
I'd only buy that car if a stage 3 build was in the plans pretty much immediately. $6,500 ish if it's as clean as it sounds then plan on a pretty near immediate motor pull to put in new clutch, timing belt service, turbo upgrade. Dosen't sound trouble free by a long shot.
Price is high knowing you have a few service changes to make up for especially if you don't plan to do it yourself. Especially seeing you have a 12 hour total drive ahead of ya.
The Cactus is beautiful (i'm biased) but the Hibiscus looks to be a better maintained car with some better options and mods that you're just going to end up doing anyhow. I would be really nervous about a car with the orig. timing belt at 105K, especially buying it and driving it home long distances. If both were priced at 6K it would almost be a wash because the timing belt and the gasket are not cheap services to get done. That Hibiscus is going to go fast, and should!

2001 Cactus S4. Vast tuned, and a couple other things. Work in progress bringing her back to loved condition...
if the turbos are whining I would not even consider buying unless I was planning on pulling the motor and upgrading them as well as doing a tbelt job asap.
J-Fonz tuned Frankenturbo Stg III, JHM fmic, Vast stage 3 clutch,Fidenza lwfw, JHM SS/linkage, Borla exhaust, piggies, catless kittens, vogtland C/Os, full mounts, vmr v710s, some rs4 goodies ect
Honestly, I would hold off and look for another car that doesn't need that much money put into it right off the bat. I waited almost 2 years before I pulled the trigger on purchasing another S4, had to find the perfect car.

I'm going through this right now. I had owned VW's before, but with this car, the maintenance when done at scheduled intervals is worth it's weight in gold. It kinda sucks to buy a car and be concerned about driving it within it's capabilities, that it's gonna nickel and dime ya. But it's still completely worth it.
