Oil temp is pinned left and doesn't move--where's the problem?

Just like the subject says....my oil temp gauge doesn't move from all the way "left."

What is the most likely problem? Not sure if it is a probe, a sending unit, or what.

Mine is doing the same, must likely sensor on the lower oil pan. Will replace it with the next oil change.

Coolant gauge seems fine - rises normally and hangs out in the center

It's likely the oil temp. sensor then like DRA4 mentioned.

That is most likely not what is causing the problem, it is usually the oil temp sensor that is in the very bottom of the oil pan. This one:

Make sure to buy the OEM one as the aftermarket ones typically dont work.

Does this do temp too or just the level?

The B5 S4 oil pan temp sensor is also the level sensor.

Like others said, most likely get a new oil pan sensor, but get an OEM Hella manufactured one, since other aftermarket ones are notorious for not working properly when it comes to the temp output
