I know there is a lot of material about this in the search, however anfter searching several times I cant seem to find the information I'm looking for, so I turn to you guys for some help... Okay, the situation is this :
vehicle : 99 2.8qm
radio : Concert I (non-bose)
my lower front door speakers were shot so I replaced them with a set of Alpine SPS-410 4" Coaxial Speakers
I now realize these are 4ohm, and didn't realize i needed 2 ohm when i bought them.
I'm NOT looking for a "show-car" stereo (I've been down that road before)
I'm NOT looking to change the stock radio
I'm NOT looking to add amps
I just want a decent sound comparable to stock.
The problem I'm having with these speakers is that at even relatively low volume the bass coming from them doesn't sound like bass, the only thing I can compare it to so you know what I'm talking about is to take your thumb and tap it against a wooden desk.
( go ahead, I'll wait )
Its just an abrupt knock, it almost sounds like what bass would sound like if it came out of a tweeter, which I thought was the case since these are 2-way speakers replacing the stock woofer.
Anyway, its frustrating and sounds like poo poo... I don' know if its the speakers, the Ohm's, or whatever... If anyone has some insight, please let me know. Thanks
I went through the same situation when I replaced the shot front door speakers with a pioneer 4" coaxial set. The bass was terrible and speaker sounded like tweeters.. (How much bass/ highs can a 4" speaker put out?? LOL)
If you want to get a good bass and a clear sound, you have to go for a 5.25" front door speakers. You need an adapter for fitting a 5.25" into the stock 4" speaker slot. I got my 5.25" speakers from ebay
I installed the above speakers with help of these adapters. Installation was simple and straightforward. No modifications needed and the door panel simply fits with this adapter and speakers. To be honest, these SAK-1104 adapters looked like they were made exclusively for the T152C Rockford speakers because the hole alignment was perfect with the holes on the speaker frame..
At the end, the speakers sounded awesome and bass is now deep and rich. And didn't cut/ drill any stock components :)
PS: If you get the new model of Rockford T152C series(ie, Rockford Fosgate Power T152 or P152), you need to make a lot of modifications on door panel/adapters to make them fit. I bought the latest P152 first and realized that it needs a lot of modifications to fit into the door panel. So returned P152 and got the above mentioned T152C from ebay.
Also from my research on bigger speaker installation, I realized that most of the 5.25" speakers(except Rockford Fosgate T152C) out there in the market needs additional modifications to the adapter/ door panel to make them fit. So go for the above speakers from ebay and you will love it..
I cannot thank you enough... I'm glad there was someone who had the same problem... So, I ordered both of those items as per your suggestion. Im guessing you were sure that those rockfords were the correct ones.... Anyway, thanks again. I'll PM you when they're installed.
Can you explain why these 5.25s fit so nice? Is it the size of the magnet, the depth of everything, etc? I may one day upgrade and this seems like a great idea.
Also wondering if one could fab a adaptor out of 3/4 MDF or something that would work with the 5.25s

Oh yeah, I'm 100% sure about this combo and I currently have it in my car..
If you search into some older posts(2 months,i think), you can see my post asking almost the same question you asked today. At that time, I had the latest Rockford Punch P152 speakers and it was so hard to make it fit there. Unfortunately, I didn't get much help from that posting. Then I went online, did lot of research in various brand speaker specs and figured out that this T152C- SAK1104 combo works without any modifications. This Power T152C speaker is discontinued by Rockford in mid 2009 and came with a huge sized Power T152 speakers which will not even fit into most of the B5 Audi's door with good modifications.

Oh yeah, the size of the magnet and depth are the main factor that makes this T152C speaker fit into the stock slot without any modifications. As I said above, at first I bought the latest 5.25" Rockford P152 Speakers and it didn't fit well/ align with the adapter. I was not even able to put the door panel into any sliding locks at all.. The magnet and housing size was large and the depth was too deep which actually makes them hit the iron rod/pillar inside the door housing. I then tried the same with a shot JVC 5.25" speaker from my friend, but did the same. Also in both cases, the diaphram of the speakers were actually making good contacts with the edges of SAK-1104 adapters, which was not good at all.
So this T152C is actually Rockford Fosgates older model of their Power series speakers(i think they discontinued this model now..) and they are kind of cute..:) The magnet is big enough, but not that big compared to the current generation of 5.25" speakers from different brands.
Below is a picture of the 4" Pioneer stock size speaker and the Rockford T152C.As you can see, the magnet size is not that big compared to the 4" stock size pioneer speakers.
Also in the picture below, you can clearly see that the T152C are not that deep. It is slightly (may be 0.5cm) more deeper compared to the stock size 4" pioneer speaker.
So along with SAK-1104 adapter, the depth increases another 1cm but still in a reasonable limit...And the speaker diaphragm aligns perfectly with the adapter without making any contacts. The whole setup is VERY VERY STURDY and goes along well with the door panel without any modifications..
I don't mind having the 4in speakers because I am getting subs and whatnot so it isn't a huge deal. These should pretty much bolt in directly, no?
2001 A4 1.8TQM. Custom turbo back (eBay test pipe, LaBree downpipe, 2.5 inch piping back to a MagnaFlow muffler). Stage 1 tune. K&N Cone filter. RS6 Wheels painted dark gray with Continental DWS tires. ST Coilovers. Coming soon...2.0 coil packs.
For sale...Brand new, never used, still in box Bosch rear o2 sensor.

I actually have a sub, 6 1/2 " rear speakers and 5 1/4" front door speakers.
To be honest, the 4" speaker was an 'odd man out' with the 6 1/2" speakers and sub. In my observation, the 4" speakers will destroy the whole effect of your sub with crappy bass and tweeter like sound. Otherwise, you have to fade out those which is actually equals to no speakers installed in the front..:)

I looked into the setup you have listed above because I need to replace my busted Bose speakers too. But from what I've research these speakers would not perform well in our cars with stock headunit without being rewired with an amp because our stock speakers are 2 ohm and the rockford fosgates t152c are 4ohm speakers.
Please correct me if I am wrong. I just don't want to have to return them.

I just don't want to have to do any modification to my door to make bigger speakers fit, I'm away from home with no drill or dremel and Idk how effective those adapter rings are.

You can use 4 ohm speakers and it won't hurt anything. The amp won't deliver that much power using 4 ohm loads on an amp designed for 2 ohm loads such as the stock unit.
The Rockford T152C is 4 ohm rated, but it will sound way better than the 4" speaker(except OE Bose 4") with 2 ohms impedance.
Check the below link to get a nice explanation about speaker impedance. Once you go through this, you will come to know..
Once Again woolveren, Thanks for the info. I got emails today that the adapter rings and the speakers shipped out. Hopefully they will get here quickly, and I will likely install them the day they come in. I will be sure to keep you posted. Thanks again

Woolveren, I see what your saying. My plan is to swap to double din eventually, I'll have a better head unit which can push more power at 4ohms. Just don't want to hurt the speakers while still with stock concert bose unit.
Also, what speakers would match the t152c to go into the rear doors?

Amazin', was wondering where you found the speakers.
I followed the link that Wolveren included in his first post on this thread. It was an Ebay link. I think I might have beaten you to the punch on that particular set though. I bought them yesterday, but I'm sure there are more floating around.
Man wish I could have grabbed those speakers, just like 30min down the road from me haha, it seems those adapters only are sold on UK sites. I cant find anyone in the US that have them.
Any other speaker options out there that are confirmed to fit and work?
As i said before, I've used JVC and the new series of Rockford speakers. Both of them didn't fit due to the larger dimension on the back side of the speaker, which is actually the case with most of the 5.25"/ 5" speakers out there in the market..
Lemme see whether I can find something similar...
Yeah, those adapters are not available here in US. But that UK ebay guy above is nice..Ships very fast and the package came with all mounting screws needed..
What did you replace your rear speakers with, if you did?

Since the front takes only Rockford T152C, I sticked to the same brand for rears...
I got a matching 4 ohms Rockford P1653 speakers for the rear. And moreover, Rockford is an awesome sounding speaker with noticeable bass response compared to other contemporaries..

I didn't replace the tweeters since the stock Blaupunkt tweeters are doing their job pretty well. For me, they looked like in good condition and produces crisp clear sound.
And moreover, if you need a good sounding tweeter you have to spend above $100, which is actually a waste if the stock ones are still working.
I had an old (maybe 3yr) pioneer tweeter which we pulled out from my friends car. I tried that one and it was not comparable to the blaupunkt ones..
So if your stock blaupunkt tweeters are not shot, I would say to stick with that...
Awesome! I just blew my rear speakers (non bose) so I desperately need to get something new. I am most likely gna go with the Rockfords. Sounds like it will be the best set-up.
Ordered some Rockfords T152C should be here next week hope my adapters come next week too. My stock tweeters sounds fine! I have to see I don't think my rears speakers are stock.
The rear speakers I mentioned above(Rockford P1653) are rear deck speakers. I don't have rear door speakers.
So if anybody was asking about rear door speakers, I have no idea which one will fit there..
To install the 6 1/2 Rockford P1653 speakers, you need to do some modifications on the rear deck which is actually very easy to work..The speakers came with an adapter which you have to fit over the stock square speaker slot. I just drilled three holes and it fitted perfectly. Then you can easily mount the new speakers on this adapter without any problem.
Agian, THE ROCKFORD T152C and SAK-1104 ADAPTER works ONLY FOR THE FRONT DOORS..

Well that makes sense. So, did you disable the rear door speakers (if your car had them) or do you recommend to disable them (if they are working perfectly?)

I don't have the option of rear door speakers in my car. Only front and rear deck speakers are there.
If the stock rear door speakers are 6 1/2", then I guess the 6 1/2" Rockford P1653 will be a tough call. Because P1653 has a bigger magnet and overall depth which will make it hard to fit them into the rear door.
If the rear door speakers are working properly, why would you need to disable them?Even if their ohms doesn't match with the new front door speakers, you will not harm any components in your car.

Ok just did not want the sounds to very by mixing/matching speakers, i'm pretty sure the rear doors are 5 1/2" speakers, so the 6 1/2" won't fit. I'll see if I can find some RF 5 1/2" speakers then.

From my understanding and experience playing with different brand speakers, if your stock rear door speakers are 6 1/2" or 5 1/4" sized, then the below speakers from Rockford will be a possible replacement without any modifications.
6 1/2" Rockford Fosgate T162C Speakers (If you have a 6 1/2" stock rear door speaker)
5 1/4" Rockford Fosgate T152C speakers (If you have a 5 1/4" stock rear door speaker, which is actually the same Rockford T152C listed above)
Again these are discontinued models, but have a smaller overall dimension compared to all other latest model 6 1/2" / 5 1/4" speakers out there in market.
So I would get these speakers for the rear door without thinking too much because these are the only speakers which you can find with smaller overall size compared to stock ones....
And the final verdict from my side is:
Rockford T152C speakers + SAK 1104 Adapter for the Front Doors - Works 100% without any modification (Physically Tested)
Rockford T152C(if stock rear door speaker size is 5 1/4") or Rockford T162C(if stock rear door speaker size is 6 1/2") for the Rear
Doors - 90% Chance to fit without any problems/ modifications (Not physically tested)
looking to upgrade my speakers so i think im going to go with the 5.25 up front. what do u guys think about this (PYLE or something like it) for the back deck speakers I have Bose that come with the car.
I was thinking for doing subs but I really don't like the box in the back of my car. with the 5.25 mod to the front and 2 of the 300 w 6.5 ^^ subs I think it will sound good. Do you guys think it will work or should i get a extra amp ??
