My head is spinning looking at all the different wheel choices. The problem is that whenever I see a wheel I like, I find out it cost $5000-$6000 for a set of 20". Needless to say that is way more than I want to spend on wheels. To try and make this selection process a bit more manageable, I need to narrow down my options to wheel brands that costs $3K for a set of 20s (i.e. Forgestar, etc). Is this possible or am I smokin crack? Are wheels in this price range junk? Its been a while since I purchased wheels so I am way out of the game. The last set of wheels I purchased were Enkei's for my slammed Acura Integra back in my racer boy days in the early 90s! Yikes!
As always, any help would be greatly appreciated!

2K means you're limited to cast monoblocks (that includes the fake-forged forgestars and TSWs), so might as well buy mop's CKs, they're among the highest quality cast wheels, along with OZ Ultraleggeras and ADV.1 flowspecs.

If I increase my budget just for wheels to $3K does that get me into forged territory? If so, which brands?

not really, forged are typically around 4-5k, however, the nicer the wheels are, the better people usually take care of them, i mean its all subjective, but i would check out vortex, and the classifieds on here and see if you can;t find a really nice wheel for a bargain price bc someone's tastes have changed
3K will get you an entry level BBS wheel, very nice looking ch or something, also ccw's start to be come more into your price range at 3$

^^^ and there is my delema. I can't see spending more than about 3k for wheels, they're just wheels. But all the wheels I like are 5-6k without the rubber. I can't wait to see the pricing on those new Morr wheels. If the group buy is around 3k, I am in.
In 20" sizes, there is nothing I can think of that will fit into a 3K budget. $3500 maybe if something is on special. I remember a couple of times seeing a set of OZ Superleggera III's in 20x9.5 size on tire rack for 800$ each... I would probably buy that myself if I saw that again.

I was told that 19s would be in the low $3k and 20s would be closer to $4k. Not sure I want to stretch my budget to get those _

I would look into Vossen wheels, possibly Incurve wheels (just a got a set myself). Good selection, right around your price range, and pretty popular around the forums

umm, well yea, i mean they look great, but i think for budget wheels you can't beat these, they may not be 20's, so there goes your shot at "dubbin" but honestly, 20's look borderline ridiculous on our cars,
miro 111's
Rotiform NUE's and MIA's
Fifteen52 Tarmac's
VMR....well pretty much any VMR wheel
a full set of wheels for each of the above mentioned wheels would run you just around 1500, that leaves enough money for some springs, and a little leftover for tires. perosnally i think those wheels look fantastic, but they do not really hold much of a candle to the wheels costing around 5K, you have to pay to play in this game, but that doesn;t mean you can;t spend less, and still look good doing it

i said borderline....as in not all 20's look bad on our car, but there are certainly more then a few i can think of that just look silly....i didn;t say all 20's look silly

The A5 is not an A4, it's bigger, hence bigger wheels are available, 20's work and look great. As far as tires go, look at the facts: 255/35-19 (stock) has a sidewall height of 3.51", while a 275/30-20 has a sidewall height of 3.24", that's such a tiny difference, a pothole that will bend the 20" wheel will also bend the 19" wheel. Anyone who considers that a rubber band tire is an idiot... but that's just my nsho.
<****- fully aware that an a4 and a5 are different, i still reserve the right to think that a 20 inch wheel looks odd in the a5 wheel well, can it be pulled off? certainly, much like a 20 inch wheel looks good on a a4 avant, but most of the 20 inch wheels i have seen on the a5 just dont seem to fit in my opinion.....like i said before, its a matter of personal preference.
and yes i think that a 3.25 sidewall is a pretty thin, and if i remember correctly i believe that there is a disclaimer about our stock tires and how you should be mindful that because it is a lower-then-average sidewall that wheels may get bent.

Even if we compare a typical 18" tire (245/40-18) with the 20" tire (275/30-20), the 20" tire still has 84% of sidewall compared to the 18" tire. This is not a big difference. 9 times out of 10, when you hit something big enough to cause damage, it will not fall into such a small margin that would leave the 20" wheel damaged while your 18" wheel comes out with no damage... It's very unlikely. I've personally bent a wheel beyond repair only once, and it just happened to be an 18x8 BBS with a 45 series winter tire. Basically, nothing beyond a 16" steelie would have survived. Other times, I've experienced lesser hits with 19" and 20" wheels that made me stop and go look, and nothing happened... so yeah, YMMV. Btw, up here, our roads are another magnitude worse than anything in the US of A.

I was going to recommend these as well.
The issue is, the last I spoke with InCurve, they told me that they werent planning on bringing in too many new Audi fitments.
The reason being their last shipment of Audi wheels did not sell very quickly.
I am hoping they'll bring more in in the near future.
However right now they have extremely limited fitments in stock for Audis.
So if anyone is interested, give me a call ASAP as I believe they only have about 1 or 2 sets left for Audis.
haha clearly you have never been to new jersey haha
Not to take this off-topic (well ok, I am...) the worst I ever saw was on Rte 22 near the GSP interchange in Union. There's a kickass Brazilian BBQ place right there and when you pull out of the parking lot onto the off-ramp from 22 the concrete looks like someone randomly placed about 500 land mines and set them off. You need a rock-crawler Jeep to get thru there.
Roads in NW Jersey where I lived were so much better. East Jersey & NYC are horrendous.
i got a set of TSW Nurburgring 19x8.5 with 235/35 hankook K110 for my B5 S4 brand new for under 2k. So guess 20s for 3k could work. But your wheel selection is definitely limited...
OK, based on everyone's feedback it looks like I need to up the ante a bit so I am now increasing my budget to $3K for wheels (I see my wife rolling her eyes now..."Its just a matter of time before you go off the deep end again and get $6K wheels!!!!"). This time I am going to really try and stay in a budget. I hope that $3K gets me something nice. So far, I like the following:
Forgestar F-14
Hartmann B7
BBS CH-R
Stasis SE-11

Dont get stasis when you can get the miro 111 or the vmr equivalent for much cheaper
Sent from a galaxy far far away
I have never heard of Miro..how are they in terms of quality? What do they weigh compared to the Stasis? VMR doesnt come in 20s..thought it this point I am still undecided between 19 and 20s.

True but that will be retail. I am waiting to see what the group buy pric will be.
miro's are popular wheels, im not sure about stasis, but miros are cast wheels, not forged, so they are going to be a little hefty in terms of weight (maybe the stasis are forged, which will make them lighter)
VMR also makes an rs4 style wheel, not sure if they are 20's or not, but i do know that VMR is very popular and i have not read any threads about having the wheels bend unless the OP hit something pretty damn hard.
but they are pretty heavy, i believe they come in around 25-27lbs for the 19's
if you are worried about weight, then i would say forget the 20 inch wheel bc unless you are willing to plunk down the big $$ you will not really find a light wheel in your price range unless they are used. you could go with an enkei wheel, the RPF-1 looks really good, and i think for their price category they are hands down the lightest wheel for your $$ right now

Nothing is set yet, it all depends on how many sets we can get out the door. We'll do a quantity based pricing, you guys won't find a 1 piece forged wheel for anywhere close to this!
Check your PM. I responded to you. Also left some info on wheels.
Thank you Jeremy. I must live in a cave or something because I still thought VMR did not make 20s. The 708, 710, and 718 looks good. Anyone know the weight of these wheels? I understand they are cast but I just dont want to get anything heavier than what I have now.

Miro, VMR, etc. are inexpensive asian-made wheels. They are not total junk like ebay replica wheels but you get what you pay for. Finish quality and strength are compromised compared to OEM or higher end aftermarket wheels.
There are some high quality affordable wheels out there, such as Rial and Enkei (which I would rate as on par with OEM). The problem is that they often don't come in agressive sizes or concave designs that many people want.
most cast wheels (rotiform, VMR, Miro, the list goes on) are all made in singapore, and show me a couple threads where people were not statisified with the performance of the VMR wheels or had one crack on them?

No problem!! Here are pics of both wheels in 20's on my ibis white Q5 so you can get an idea. 708's in matte black and 710's in gunmetal. Both would look killer on your S5. Also by no means cheap quality, these wheels are very strong.
I just picked up a set of TSW Nurburgring for my winter tires that I'm putting on this weekend. They're only 18" but they are beautiful wheels and very affordable. I'll take some pics if you want.
