Long story short a buddy of mine is looking for a new car to mod, and he needs some help. He's coming from the world of Single turbo Miatas, and is thinking of "upgrading" to a s2k because it has a good potential for modifying and has nicer "luxory" interior (ie Leather seats).
I was hoping there might be someone in the area who would be willing to give him a ride in there modified b5 s4? Of course the faster the better, because he thinks all audi's are slow lumps biased off his experiences in my n/a 2.8.
anyways i'm looking to hear back from you guys, and hopefully someone can give him a ride!
Sounds like your friend likes two seater light weight cars that handle well on tighter circuits. Unless he wants four doors and luxury it sounds like Audi's may not be right for him. Just sayin'

Ask Ken@034 his car (once its tuned) is about as fast as this platform can get
jonathaN ..... Santorin 2001 s4
AWE Twin 1 Turbo-back | J-Fonz | ABD intake | Koni Sport Coilovers | Lorinser LM2 (once they are refinished) | Bailey Motorsports DV30 | Soon to be 770s Build(soon enough....)
Your spot on. I think all he's known is two door lightweights. So i just want to expose him that a 4 door luxory car that can ride a lot smother, quieter, and yet can still be pretty fast.
I guess he actually drove a s2k the other day and didn't like how it rode.
slow they are not but they are a completely different animal compared to a turbo miata, sure the miata probably is a 12 sec car but it does things differently compared to an audi.
I have been thru the japanese and european comparison as SCC had covered that years ago, they are all targeting different audiences, the japanese couterparts cant match the level of build quality of the interior and ride comfort built into them from the factory, sure you can have your subie or evo pimped out inside but it requires you do put in what the german cars already have-the balance between comfort and performance.
Its an apples to orange comparison and I would assume that he has yet to experience a well put together hi performance sport sedan like the audi or for that matter, bmw, merc or other german/euro marks.
it made sense for me to get an audi because I have 2 kids and a wife that wanted something nicer than our subaru forester and we havent looked back, its a nice blend of hi performance wrapped up in a nice package, pus its nice to sneak up on so called sport cars or fast cars and give them a run for their money in a s4 avant haha.
as it was mentioned before be prepared to spend money and I think it turns a lot of people away from german cars because of that but as they say you get what you payed for
audi's suck dont convince your friend to buy one, you are only setting him up for a nightmare of problems haha. if i were him id stick to the turbo miatas, he honestly like cars that handle well. so once he gets into a b5 he will be super pissed off at life for buying a pig on roller skates, trust me i did it. some people honestly dont care for the luxury interiors ( the wood grain trim sickens me) if you are good friend show him a b5 let him know all the common issues let him drive one and dont push it down his throat. i liked my b5 s4 for the way it looked, performance and handling sucked... so i dumped it and made it look cool. ive driven k04 cars its cool but eh.
B5 S4 is a great platform, but not for the feint of heart.

Tell me this car wasn't tight?! U know unloved it! Remember all the dreams u had while we were sitting, drinking coffee and mud water looking at a$$ n booty?! Remember them h&r co's that handled very well that I got from u?! U know u miss it! :p

Kem im not saying the S4 is for the feint of heart, but trust me ive built way faster, superior handling, and over all just more fun cars in my time, one being a pro street 65 gto that would pop wheelies when gunning it in first gear, rx7's with v8's for drifting way before the ls1 craze happened, and i have about 10-11 years experience racing miatas. personally i can relate the the OP's friend from what i gather, he likes light weight rwd cars that handle great, thought a s2k would be a nice upgrade then realize its a front heavy car that under steers. I was in the same boat then bought a b5 S4 as a up grade in luxury and thought oh awd should handle nice, i gave it a shot and modded my audi at first to try and handle better. nothing worked so i just dumped it and made it more useless then it started off as. i bought a subaru wrx wagon now to daily and that thing handles way better, as for the luxury im a minimalist so it doesnt bother me.
again to the OP i say take your friend out in a fast one, but also have him research all the pros and cons of the b5 platform, look at smashed s4 he bought a stage 3 and the trans went out on him right away, lucky for him he has the money to fix it and its not a super cheap fix especially for someone coming from the import scene.
Khoa, I admit I loved my car for the way it looked, everything was eh, and thats why i went back to building old cars and hot rods :)

Whoa. Who appointed you? All car choices are personal choices
Goats and subies are everywhere. Wheelies on street tires ?
Yeah audis under steer. That keeps most of us out of trouble
Your choices are a bit more simple I think

1965 goats are everywhere? id like to see that. car was a pro street car with a tubbed rear shortened axle and pretty large slicks for track and cheater slicks for street.
what is simple about my choices? that i like cars that are built to handle well and then modified them to handle even better? or that i can build a classic car that actually holds it value and gains value through the years unlike audi?
I was saying i can relate to the OP's friend with our shared past choice of cars (miatas ive owned 5 in the past 10 years with lots of track time) , and if the OP's friend is anything like me love of rwd i dont think a b5 would be a good choice for the friend. i lost interest in mine quickly due to the handling situation.
my wrx wagon is my daily driver. nothing over the top.
i am building a hot rod right now which will probably be pushing about 350-400 hp, building the frame from scratch i dont see that as simple either...
read the context of the OP, then read what you quoted.
I loved my s4 but my Z is exponentially less expensive and can be turboed and supercharged relatively cheaply. Have him test drive a bunch of things. S2k is a great car too. If he wants a s4 as fast as the cars were talking about tell him to be ready to pay upwards of 35k in parts labor and maintenance. My .02

yes - thank you! i had japanese cars before, had the 350z, rsx and celica. Though they have some good qualities, they don't come close as germans to the 'whole package', something is always missing in japanese cars, they don't seem to have this completeness, like everything was thought through like in german cars. performance wise - i would say that its arguable that german cars are so much better, but interiors are not even comparable to anybody else. Off course the lexury big heavy sedans are a different story.
i would buy a golf gti i looked and saw few for 14-15k, its a good car with ton of options as is and ton more to add

If your buddy likes single turbo miatas, but wants to "upgrade" to something with a nicer feel, why not go with a FD RX-7?
There was a guy with a very nice 1994 single turbo FD in the classifieds section recently. The interior is much nicer than your typical NA or NB miata with great potential. 300whp achievable with bolt ons. Plug and play EMS with the Apex'i PFC. Well worn path for street, circuit, or drag.
If your friend has deep enough pockets to consider modifying a B5 S4, the FD RX7 should be in his price range as well.
Yes, you can get quickness and street light to light wins with honda/nissan cars. it all seems great, but when you're done buying and installing various style / interior items to feel great in that cart, you'll be at same $ number as if you bought an audi or beamer.. so in the end money wise same thing, if you can get an asian car and upgrade everything or get a german with it all done at the factory..
