$10 to whoever can solve my symphony II+ aux in issue

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I bought a symphony II+ and an adaptor cable for my b7 a4. When I try to access it with vagcom, I can't get a response. I've tried my eBay cable, and a professional snap on scanner, and neither one make a connection. It seems like the wiring is okay since I get text in my cluster. I really want the aux jack enabled. Thanks in advance.

EDIT: I must not be clear... I could access my old radio with my ebay cable no problem, I have the registered version of vagcom lite, and the SnapOn scanner works on other audis to access the radio, it can even access mmi on a b8 a4, so I would think it would at least act like the radio existed. Neither cable sees a radio at all. I would get the real vagcom cable if I thought it would solve my issues, but if I can't establish any sort of connection at all, I dont think it would either. If anyone is in the colorado springs/denver/pueblo area with a legit vagcom, I'd love to meet up and try it, and I'd compensate you for your time.

Not too sure on how those "scanners" work but if i remember correctly they only scan for codes.
I believe you would need a legit version of Vag-com to access certain blocks to enable aux-in.

    That could be problem one.

The scanner would connect to my old radio, and for other modules it will let me change the coding. So I don't think that is the issue. I also tried it in a VW GTI that came with a quadlock connector stock. It would let me into the old radio with my ebay cable, but not this one.

the ebay cable IIRC is a cable that lets you only access a few things, and you need to step it up to the actual ross tec one for it to access everything

Is there a reason I could use it on the old radio, but not the new?

Its not the cable its the software version. You need the software version that allows you access to all blocks and if you buy it then the cable is included. I think its version 409.1 that you need to be able to access all blocks.

Cable plays a role too. It has to have the proper CAN interface or it won't allow you in to certain blocks. I remember when my brother had his cable that worked flawlessly with his B6, only allowed me into a few blocks in the B7. After upgrading it was fine.

I still feel like the cable is at fault. I'm no pro but maybe because its a newer radio it's setup a bit differently requiring proper connection? Not sure, but I personally never heard any1 using a snap-on scanner to change codes on these cars.

Find someone locally with a proper vag-cable and then see if that works. IF THAT doesn't work, then there is some other issue.

I ran the Alpha Bid cable before I lost it and was able to read everything with version 409.1 (the full one; not the free one included with the cable). It was just the standard dual K-Line but not CAN-BUS enabled one. With the free version I wasn't able to access my radio settings for Bluetooth but when I upgraded I could change everything.

It needs to be fully CAN compatible. The s2+ uses it instead I the k-line.

ive done the symphony 2+ aux with the ebay cable.

if it accesses it, your audio system will make a high pitched sound and then the vag com will start to read it. thats when you know it reads.

can someone link me an ebay VAG-COM cable that they KNOW will work for sure? I have this blue ebay cable I got off ebay but I never got it to work. It came with a mini CD of the lite software, but I couldn't insert it on my slot loading laptop drive, so I just got the version from rosstec. I set up the com port to be open for the device, but when I try and scan it never comes back with anything, just searches forever.

OP-Im pretty sure I've read DIYs that say you can use an ebay cable. Where did you get the adapter cable for your aux? Thats the only thing I can think of.

    1) What "adaptor cable" are you referring to for your aux connection?? Brand? custom built? iPod or headset jack? You aren't clear if you are trying to get this working or trying to do something else with your Symphony unit. If you're referring to enabling AUX...
    2) I've never had to vag com to enable auxiliary setting EVER. I've worked on 5 cars with Symphony II+ including my own. My opinion is your cable is faulty and your system isn't correctly detecting the auxiliary connection and therefore never going into that mode.

In terms of ebay cable, I agree with everyone else.

You usually have to code in the Aux setting to enable it. but once its enabled its just there. He's talking about

jmarch - That disc usually contains drivers for the cable itself, which is why yours never worked. I'm not sure where to find the drivers, but maybe someone can chime in. Or try googling "audi can usb driver" or something.

OP - check that all teh wires are securely connected in your adapter harness. Pay close attention to where the Can wires are going.

There's an AUX pin on the back of the connector on Symphony II+ units. You can ground it and the cd changer function automatically gets enabled. No vagging required.

Not to thread jack, but is there any ipod cables that will let me control my iphone4 with the radio/steering wheel controls? charging also would be fantastic. I used to just use bluetooth with my pioneer unit in my b6, but a headunit is not the most importent thing on my list ATM.

I'll be selling my OEM iPod adaptor soon, let me know if interested. It doesn't show song names, but you can skip through songs and such with the radio and steering wheel, and I have an adapter for it that allows charging. Until mmi, no oem ipod adapters supported charging i believe.
