Gents, I'm racking my brain back and forth over which car to get. Both cars I'm sure are great and I will find out more in March when I hope the website will have the new model info. Here's how I will use the car, I'm 44 with two kids and I commute 45 miles each way to NYC everday. My kids are 5 and 3 and are in the car only on the weekends if at all. Yep we have the Minivan for the weekends (can't believe I actually have one and actually don't mind it for Toyota Sienna Limited). Currently I have a 2010 E350 and have I'm tiring of the Mercedes especially the current generation that has some little things that are just flat out annoying. The S4 looks like a kick butt car but I feel like I will lose some meaningful space by going to the S4 vs the S5 and I like the look of the S5. Is the price differential between the two worth it and since both cars will now have the 3.OT is the cost differential worth it? I've never owned an audi and I've heard they have often had electrical problems so is that more myth than reality?
with my experience and the people that have audi, they tend to have more problems than the other brands. my opinion is biased. since i have the a5. but go with what's practical. if you already have a van, why not have a weekend car. the 4 would do just fine too.

ps. plz don't make this a 4 vs. 5 thread. haha
I tend to agree. We have a minivan as well which is where the family normally drives in. I would never buy a luxury sedan which to me is just another family car. To me, if I was going to spend this kind of money on a vehicle, I dont want anything practical. In fact, I would want it to be totally impractical and fun to drive, hence my S5 cabrio.

You said you like the S5 and with the ages of your children you have plenty of room in the back. The question you should ask yourself is, is moving the front seats forward and putting in child restraint seats every time you take them with you worth the trouble ( can be done but a little bit of a hassle with two kids ) vs. just opening up the back doors of the S4 which makes it easier to put the seats and kids in? I say go for the S5 and leave the kids home with mom LOL!
Stop by a dealer and see for yourself what is involved with what I said and you'll have an answer.
I agree with above posted. The S5 only has the 3.0T if you get convertable as well otherwise is the 4.2V8 which is a great tngine but more costly to mod to get real results and much less MPG as well. IF those things don't bother you and the fact that its a 2 door (with having to put kids in car seats and moving the seats dont bother you) then get the S5

OP is asking about 2013 models, that's when the coupe switches from the NA 4.2 V8 to 3.0T.
I think you answered your own question there, op. You already have a minivan and your kids rarely go in your daily "beater".... S5 for sure
As for problems....I'll be picking up my fourth Audi in April and I never had any major issues which required the dealer to keep the car overnight. My current B7 A5 2.0T has about 80k miles and we got it in 2008. We live in NYC as well and the A4 will be my daily until my A5 gets in.
I'd highly recommend Biener Audi and NOT Audi of Manhattan. Ask for Richie Pizzo, the GM. Tell him Robin sent ya, I just order my Audi Exclusive A5 from him.

Thanks for your feedback folks. I'm going to leave the car seats in full time so no moving back and forth. We have two sets one for the van and one for my car. Wifey thinks the Cabrio is a selfish car so I'm not sure I want to hear that static for the few times a year that I can drive top down. NYSpeedracer, I live in Bridgewater, NJ so my realistic dealer choices are Princeton Audi, Beminster Audi or Fleminton Audi.
Wolfe - go S5 (it's just plain sexier!), and buy from Flemington. They have the best connection with the ACNA Mid-Atlantic chapter (i.e. they are enthusiast-friendly). I just moved back west from NJ, I work for MetLife Bank, they were in the big bldg on 22 in your town before we moved to Convent Station last Feb.
Also get involved with the regional forums on here and on QuattroWorld, good group of very knowledgeable guys and fun to hang out with. Several of them have kids the same age as yours, too.
I had the same issue as you did. In the end, I got the S5 V8 and so glad I did. There are many A4 S-Line in my area .. and from afar, they look like the S4. The S5 stands out more than the S4, and they are rare. The $5,000 difference is worth it, because the Gray S5 has that machismo and bearing of a gray Aston Martin - but not the S4. The S5 has that high-end appeal that the S4 does not have. Think about an $80,000 - $90,000 car (Jaguar sports car, BMW 650 coupe) and the $100,000+ Aston Martin coupe ... the S5's looks can hold its own when park with those more expensive cars.

Lots of steering towards S5....glad to hear it!! First time Audi guy....just ordered 2013 S5 Premium black on black with the works. Going from 335i coupe. Nice car but in the shop more than my granny in the hospital and the most obnoxious sales and service ever!! Can't wait for delivery and hope to stay an Audi man for a very long time.
