Had a weird clunk happen tonight. Was driving on dark 2 lane roads and was stuck behind slow car. I went from about 50 to 75 and heard wierd clunk, clunk and felt it in the car. The first time it happened, I thought it was just a bump in the road. Then, it happened again later and continued everytime I accelerated from 50 to 75.

If I accelerate hard in top gear it is really noticeable. I can feel/hear it in 4, 5, 6. Not much in 1 and 2. It seems to happen when boost kicks in and feels like it is coming from back of car. Could it be a trans or diff mount? A u joint on drive shaft? Engine seems fine.

The car has 102k. This is the first time I've experienced this. Appreciate any thoughts.

could be diff carrier, stern power ring or apikol replacement would take care of it.

the driveshaft carrier usually will cause a pulsing vibration at speed since its allowing the two shaft halves deflect as you go down the road.

solid clunks are usually indicative of bad diff carrier, rubber could be worn out. you could diy it and fill the voids with urethane or 'right stuff' and do it on the cheap.
