ok so as of lately ive been seeing roof racks on everything from a4's to civics. is this a new trend? i mean there cant possibly be that many skiers and byciclist in this area. (and im from north jersey). so does it add more Hp like those cool stickers or what?
Lol...my wife and I saw a fat guy in a civic with roof racks last week and we were wondering the same thing...some people probably thinks it looks cool... I don't dig the look though...but whatever...

I'm in North NJ as well... and yes, it has become a trend for the ricers...
I personally ride bikes, I have a fixed gear Masi and a Bianchi road bike... I'd love to get a roof rack so I can take them places with me but ehhh. I usually just take a wheel off and the bikes fit in my trunk.
They are great for reducing gas mileage and creates a whistling noise at freeway speeds without a front fairing.
No...NO..No...You don't know whistling until you have a TT bike, your Main CF race bike, the spare Bike in case of ABS, 3 sets of wheels and the MTB to get around once at the Stage Race...All on the racks of the Avant...
All S and G aside I have noticed that lately also....I'm more of the contrarian side of things, if I did not need my Yakima's to strap my bikes or my skis to...they certainly would not be on the Avant.....Then again I wouldn't have an Avant if I did not need racks....
Not quite sure why One would want to cruise around with a set of skis or snowboards strapped to the racks in July.....Unless you're cruising up to Mt Hood or the Glaciers....
What I really want to see is chef with an Avant...a full rack platform and a Wolf Range Oven strapped to the top.....(lol)

I think the Honda guys put the racks on cause it matches their shopping cart handle, aka their useless rear spoiler.
That is very Civic'ly Cruel.......

I would have a roof rack for my surf board if I ever had anymore time to go to the beach....no point to get a roof rack since my promotion at work, no more time...
I have a rack on my avant but I use it for skiing. I take it off in the summer. Unless I start actually using my road bike in which case I might leave it on in the summer.
I could leave it on all teh time, since its a flushmount whispbar and you can barely tell its there when there are no attachments on it.

yeah i dont get how its become a trend...but it has
some might call me trendy but mine was definitely for use
sure you can put a bike in the back with a wheel off and the seats down but after a day on the trail why get the car all muddy :/
main reason i bought mine
however i dont think i will be buying one for the GTI
I use mine for snow boarding and biking and carrying christmas trees I usually take it off when not using it except when im at school because I have no where to put it but I actually like the look of it.

any yes i had left over vinyl...it was there for like a week -___-

Yeah, had that great experience driving to the Smokey Mountains last year with two full suspensions on top going about 90. Felt like a sail boat.......
I have a rack on mine, and yes I MTB. I just leave it on, for one I now think my car looks weird with it off and two thats just one more thing to do when you are half asleep getting all your shit together to go ride some single track. I havent seen anyone where Im at that would do it just for a mod, but I have had a buddy tell me that he was thinking about getting an Audi and then buying a rack cuz he liked the way mine looked.....I dont think he has done anything physical since P.E. in grade school. haha
/\ /\ Priceless....I like the way it looks on you...So I'll just get one too...matches my eye color....
Not quite sure as to what happened to buying a car with certain accessories because you needed them rather than .....STATEMENT......
Probably why I never understood cruising in a Hummer in the Burbs...

Shoulda talked him into a 1100 Ducati....
Less Vibration ( if you're ever thinking of lineage ) hearing loss is minimal, last but not least no requirements for a straight road only....

Did that with my avant this christmas. The kid loading it up was a fan of the car! He thought were were nuts just putting it on the roof like that! Its already got sap on it from the goddamn conifers in the parking lot of my old work, so whatever. I really didn't care. The B7 is the workhorse. it doesn't haver to look pretty.

I don't get the whole roof rack fad with all these Audi/VW people now-a-days. I've been running my OEM Thule roof rack for 4 years on my Audi since I bought it... Roof Box, Thule Side-Arm, RockyMount Euro Fork Mount.... it got used. Not just base bards on the roof for killing gas mileage & "show" purposes. I hate posers.

I did mine originally for look's because i "dug" the idea of a lowered a4 with roof racks, still working on the lowered part tho ha... But over time i saw it became very useful, i now take my bike to places instead of riding around my house.. And the ski rack is multi purpose (snowboards, longboards, hockey sticks, lumber, pvc pipes) IMO it looks good and just add's more function to the car when you need it. As for MPG's i notice i get like 1-2 less and honestly i burn gas no matter what, so im not gonna be a jew about it ( no offense to jews) lol.
Love it...driving around in $35,000+ cars and a drop of 2 or 3 MPG is a concern.....
