timing belt rubbing against cover slightly

I am getting a slight rubbing noise while the car is rubbing coming from the front pass side. When I pull my apr bi-pipe toward the front of the car the noise stops. I think that the bi-pipe is pressing against the cover. I'm suspecting it may have been reinstalled incorrectly by the last mechanic that replaced the thermostat housing 14K miles ago. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem?

You have the bracket on or tweaked?

This one is facing the rear for some reason, should be rotated 180* and come around to the front of the cover where the bolt is for the bipipe.

I think I have it on right, its attached in this order ** bolt > bracket > bi-pipe mount > thread . The thread point is cracked. I should have replaced the cover when I did the TB job...

There is not much room in there for the belt clearance. I know I had to work mine back and forth on the cam pulleys to get them to clear the thermostat housing. I did not have much problem with the front though.

by back and forth, do you mean belt position on the actual cam pulleys (toward and away from the engine)?

Hey that's my engine Even though it's not really doing any harm there. I thought it bolts underneath the y-pipe?

This is what i was planning on doing:

    1. Put the car into service position using tool VAG3389 to get some clearance and check for noise once the rad support is pulled forward
    2. Then loosen bi-pipe fastener near intercooler to relieve pressure and check if noise remains.
    3. Remove bi-pipe completely and check noise
    4. If there is still noise, remove ribbed belt

Question about #3, can the car run without the bipipe for a short period while checking for noises? Any harm in doing so?
