i just installed this push to start button VIDEO OF HOW THE PUSH TO START WORKS WITH FACTORY FOB that works with factory key fob it works fine with my B5 switchblade fob BUT i think since i dont have to use the switchblade key to start it maybe i could just upgrade to the B8 key so my question is can you program a B8 smart key to just unlock and lock the B5
im a newb this is my first post and i did do a search and couldnt find anything
any help would be great

The only keys that work have the same FCC ID numbers. I really highly doubt a B8 one would be even remotely close to working.

Most definitely not just went thru this with a B7 FOB and attempts at matching to my B6....Went to the dealer finally and they said No Go...
Think about it, you're driving around with a B5 looking for a B8 to start and screw off with....MAS would have been on that Banquet long ago....

The issue is the CCM (convenience control module). My car is a 2004, even though the B6 started in 03, my car still has the B5 CCM, and I cannot use the B6 and up key (especially the B8 keys) for lock/unlock. You can pop your key blade on and the car will start, but me and my buddy tried for hours with VAG-COM and other programs to get the key programmed... Just wouldn't work.
Don't waste your time or money. Go on ebay and order a new shell (buttons, case, everything) for your B5 key, should cost you like $10-$15 and your key will look brand new.
Whats wrong with getting a b5 key? You dont like it?
it just isn't compatible as /\ /\ just explained..
Wish I'd known that before I drove myself crazy trying every possible DIY sequence from A-zine, VW-Vortex and Audiforum.....

if your car is a b6, you have to program the b7 fob with vagcom.. but it does work as others have done it.
b5's can use b6 keys, but b5's cant be programmed through vagcom, thus can't use b7 fobs.
I use all b6 fobs, they seem to have nicer buttons, new vs new, and with my experience, i get better distance from them as well.

As I said the parts person at the dealership ( whom I trust ) definitely said no-way so if you know something I or they do not please do tell
I'm functioning with 1 fully operational master key, 1 key blade functional only. The Valet key was never included when I bought the car and I do not trust the emergency wallet key unless it is an emergency....
