Hello everyone, I need some input on an engine splash shield replacement. I drive a B6 1.8t quattro, and I prefer not to pay $250 for one, call me cheap. As a result, I have located a couple of reasonable options, links below. More importantly, I'm wondering if any of these options would work for my ride. Also, could I make a manual trans shield work for my car?
The Polcar belly pan is a great OEM replacment for an even better price! Althought it will not offer the same proctection a skid plate would. It will improve gas milage, cooling, and reduce under body noise/turbulance.
My belly pan has a hole in it when I scraped it, wondering how the Polcar version is compared to the OEM one. I don't want fitment issues or for it to damage easily...

Polar is an exact replica of the OEM belly pan. There's not fitment issues to be expected. It's made of a more "rubberized" plastic rather than the brittle plastic that OEM is made of.

hmmm, never noticed these Jason...would you guys do a group buy on them? im sure we could get plenty of people interested.
We actually do not offer any specific discounts/group buys as we try to price our products as competitive as possible so everyone can take advantage of the same savings.
I would just pay the money for a Panzer or thor evolution skid plate. Do it right once so you don't have to do it again. Those plastic and rubberized plastic ones just don't hold up for abuse that our lower audis take.

Never hurts to ask though!
Jason

Correct, but unfortunately that is no longer the case. Rather than adjusting the price for a few people once we would rather meet some where in the middle and offer competitive pricing for everyone.
To be honest you really wont find a better deal on an OEM belly pan then our Polcar - under 100 bucks shipped to your door for free! Considering how large the box is that's a steal!
Is there any consensus on which plate may be better overall between the Panzer and Thor units? Main criteria I'd be interested in is quality (fitment and materials), design (function), ease of install and removal (for oil changing).
Wanted: Hood for B6, no rust or dents, any color/paint condition So many Audis, so little time....
I've got two belly pans and a Auto Trans rear pan chilling inmy shed right now. No reason to put them back on when the cars are going under the knife constantly...

Tell me about it. Its not liek they're hard to take on and off, it literally takes less than 5 minutes, its just a pain. I hate repeating work over and over...

I can't speak on the Thor because I have a Panzer, but taking the skid plate for an oil change is easy. Two screws per side, One on the front, and two 17MM bolts that are treaded into the sub frame on the back. Its just as easy as the stock plastic belly pan with 6 screws. Quality is great and I haven't had any issues. They salt the roads in Nebraska and I haven't had any problems in two years.

I have the panzer plate, had zero fitment issues, have yet to take it off but imagine it would be just as easy as it went on lol
Thanks blackfc3s and asullivan. Good to know, thanks for posting. Any Thor users out there care to provide some user feedback?

How do you think it feels to be an Audi tech doing this all day :|
I dont mind the monotonous wrenching tasks, but I would not want to do it in any sort of production mode like in a shop or at a dealer. That would take all of the fun out of it for me.
I only hate wrenching when stuff doesn't fit the way it should.

You may not want to pay the money now, but I highly suggest either of these. My skid plate has already paid for itself.
This.
Given that my car is lowered and the winters we have here, There's no question in terms of what to use...

I bought the Panzer plate based on what I perceived to be more coverage. With it in hand, there are a ton of little subtle bends, etc. It is a VERY well made piece, everything was included. Oil change removal takes a bit longer due to the two bolts vs. the OEM dzus fasteners....but that 20 seconds is worth the peace of mind should a semi drop a tire or a chunk of ice...
I got tired of wrestling with my OEM one and left it off. Lately I've been thinking about putting it back on (for a number of reasons)...and these aluminum versions look pretty nice.
Maybe one of those two vendors would be up for a group buy? I'm liking the Thor...

Don't bother trying for a GB. Dieselgeek won't do it, Evo just did one recently (I think?).
I have a solidworks file at Onceover send me a while ago. I was going to make my own but decided just to fork over the money because I didnt have the time.
if you would like the file, let me know. I can forward the PM.
