    EVAP leak from here?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
2000 S4. Mods were not done by me. I was poking around in the rear of the car and found this disconnected hose by where an OEM muffler would be.

What's this hose for? Thanks for any help AZ

Also, squeaking part 2 on my car. I have a squeak at idle that I noticed was coming seemingly obviously from around the driver's rear wheel well. It slows down over the course of like 20 seconds and then disappears. I mean like the squeak comes in longer intervals then there's one prolonged squeak (as opposed to instantaneous, it's like squeeak, not squeeeeak if you catch my drift). What the heck squeaks back there? It's distinctively a squeak too, not like a squeak/crunch or something. Thoughts?

Thanks for the input. LDP=leak detection pump? I'm not sure and that was my best guess. So what am I missing here? Just the rest of the hose that connects some where?

yeah im pretty sure that hose goes from the carbon can under the spare tire well up to the leak detection pump

Hmmm, well that would certainly explain the CEL for the EVAP large leak EVAP code I've been getting if that's what it really is.

LOL, yes, yes that would give that code. the squeak you are hearing might be the pump pumping out into the air. its a weird bellows pump.

Any idea on a part number for the hose? Assuming that's all I need? That would explain the squeaking location as well because it was definitely loud in that area.

That hose is suppose to run up and over the exhaust, then to the drivers side rear fender wall. if the pre-formed hard hose is missing, just get some correctly sized rubber hose and cut it to length. the hard pipe is very expensive if bought from the dealer.

here is an old thread I mad when my exhaust rubbed that hard line and caused a leak:

My setup looks different than yours... I have just a rubber hose from the spare tire well, and absolutely no hard piping around there, yours looks like it was all hard piping I think from the first picture of your first post. Maybe I can grab this part off a junker, hard hose and all.

I will do that then. I'll bet there's rubber there because the previous owner is a ratard and cut off the hard piping and tried fixing it then gave up. /rant

    Thanks for the help guys

I would replace the line for sure, but also disasemble the pump and clean the seals. I had to do this when i started recording a leak from the LDP. turns out it was a bit dusty inside and the plunger was not sealing anymore.. wiped it down with a damp rag and it was good to go.

    I'll let you know jibberjive.

@S4James: Thanks for the suggestion. I'm thinking the seals are dirty.
