NY bros...tint question

I think the law is 70% all around except anything on the rear window in Ny.
I've seen tons of people rock tint on the back and rear so can i go as dark as i want? What are your thoughts?

Have 35% all the way around on my Audi and 20% on my 4Runner for the last 7 years. Never had an issue with the police in either vehicle.

U can go as dark as u want but u might be bothered. U shouldnt have issues with the 35%

NYS Law is 70% on the front windows which is factory tint on most newer vehicles front windows.

No tint is permitted on the front windshield, only at the top and may not go passed the "AS1" marking. (AKA Windsheild Banner)

There is no restriction for the rear seat windows, or rear windshield.

If you are up in Syracuse most of the time you will be ok with either 20% or 35%. I have a few friends up there who have 20% and have never been pulled over for tint.

Like everyone else has stated, if you go with 35% you will get a lot less attention from the police.

I had thought about tinting the windshield but decided against it because I never knew how to remove the NY Registration/Inspection stickers when it was time to get inspected or renew my registration.

I was pulled over by NYPD with 35% tint on 3rd avenue in south Bronx. Then again it was probably not the tint but the fact that I was white and driving a slightly modded Audi in the south bronx lol

It must of been you. I also drive a modded moro blue but with 5% all around and never got pulled over in NYC. I've had the car for over 2 years now and I do go the south bronx quite often to visit a friend of mine. I believe south bronx is part of the 40th Precinct. Did they let you go or you got a ticket?

You simply take the stickers off and place them back on. Same procedure when you get your front glass replaced. Granted, it probably won't stick again. So, use tape till your registration expires and you need to renew your inspection. If you want to use some type of glue adhesive for a more clean look, then you can do that also (Goo Gone is your friend, when time to remove it from your windshield).

In the south Bronx you will get pull over for even no tint lol, that shit is a dump.

My tint guy is the best there is he removed the inspection and reg sticers very carefully. Then laminates them with a plastic similar to the oil change vinyl type stuff and applies it to the tint. Its not a rough adhesive at all so it peels off and can be put right back on with a tiny bit of heat.


. Be careful removing the inspection stickers because if you do not peel them right they will say void all over them. Buddy of mine tried to do it himself and didnt heat the sticker enough to remove it before tinting..

I got a prescription from my VA eye doctor (service related injury) allowing me to have tinted windows.

it got annoying so i took the fronts off and left the rear seats and rear window and haven't been bothered since and I'm black i always got bothered in the city or the Bronx but no where else. so i say don't do it.

It's an "equipment" ticket. You can do two things, 1. get the tints removed, show up at the precinct and the ticket will be dismissed or 2. plead not guilty, get a receipt from a tints guy saying he removed them, and try your luck with a judge. Worst case, you'll get a reduced fine.

i have 20% and last time I got pulled for that BS they told me 17% was the legal limit. In the daytime it's allright, but at nightime is when they mess with you the most. One time they stopped me to as me where I got them done, I thought they were trying to catch me to incriminate myself but the one of the FUZZ guys had and A4 also and we got to talking CARTALK and they left me alone after that

Still waiting on pictures of your car with the 30% tint & 50% windshield.

I have 20% now all around and nothing on windshield, staties have pulled me.

This spring I plan on removing my 20% & doing 50% on all side windows and entire front windshield. My inspection sticker has already been taken off the front window... just use some heat & it will come off, much cleaner look when parked.

It looks way darker in this pic than it really looks in person as far as side windows. I can see right through my car both sides. Especially with the sunroof shade open. Every time I see a cop I slide that open and drive past. Haven't been bothered. Knock on wood

You might not get bothered just yet because they usually excuse brand new cars from the dealer because they know the dealers do that. But in a couple years or so you will.

Honestly no problems at all looking through the windshield at night ever. 35% on the sides rarely gets bothered in NY. Its anything under that. My friend has put 35 or 40% on all his cars old and brand new and lives in the BX and never got a ticket. The one time he did 20% sides he got tickets.
