Track days in NEW ENGLAND
Who has plans, what track days are first....come on people. With the lame ass winter we have had thus far in New England, I'm already getting excited for the track/HPDE season. Let's chat folks. Any new mods over the winter?

Was just about to make a post about the Watkins Glen event on April 30 that I just signed up for... will be the first event I get to use my new Stoptech ST-40 BBK at :) Got my PFC-01 and Pagid Orange pads the other day too. Along with my new tuning and recently installed 2.5 gallon trunk mounted W/M tank, I'm all set for 2012 track days!!!
I'm also attending the Audi Club LRP event on May 18-19. I'm actually 'assistant event master' for the event again this year, so I'll be quite busy prepping the event and helping to run the event, while also driving both days.
Nothing else planned just yet. Might be hitting NJMP on Monday, May 21st though - we'll see if I can pull it off.
Other plans by others? Be great to get a couple other guys to caravan out to to the Glen!! And at LRP for the Audi event!!

I'm on the fence about the LRP event in May. Depends on how the work schedule works out and days off....I won't make the April event at Watkins glen (what club?) but I hope to make the SCDA event at Loudon ,,,, I will be installing the new Stassis BBK and coils so, can't wait!

I think the age restriction is actually 16 as I look a little more - I'll confirm
The Watkins Glen event is put on by NASA Northeast.

It's with the Lime Rock Park Car Club, i.e., members of the park. Not sure what the format would be, we alternate sessions with them, we mix with them but at the same level, not sure. Maybe bigdo26 can chime in as he's the assistant event master there.
It's one of the pricier HPDE events I've seen, $525 for 2 days I believe, but LRP is supposed to be a great track...
Hey, was going to ask you, aaron, did you install your Stasis COs? Which did you get or thinking of getting? I've been researching the challenge myself.

yea, thats too much. I mean, a 1 day there is usually $345, tho I did find another club that is doing a track day there for I think around $275. It may be a BMW club, I can find out if you'd like.
As for the stasis. There are sitting in my living room as I type. I bought the SL (street line) as opposed to the MS (motor sport). The Ms has the external resevoir's for increased adjustability with rebound and high and low speed dampening, but thats ABOUT the only real difference. I couldnt justify the extra $1200 for the MS, so I went with the SL which were still a pretty penny. I hope to install them within a few weeks, waiting for some time and some salt to get off the roads. I will also be putting on my alcon BBK.

I'd love to do a track day this summer. Would be my first one so some instructional help would be great. My car has upgraded brakes/suspension/sway bars so I should be ok, despite only having a Stage II 1.8T.

I don't even think they make a MS version for my chassis. Please post a review when you get it installed. Qua77ro wrote a great one in the B8 A4 section, including the Alcon brakes as well.

Hi Charles, def'ly go for it! I've only been to two myself and it's addicting. I have an event coming up in two weeks at NJMP, can't wait!
When you say you have upgraded brakes, did you do a BBK or upgraded pads/lines/brake fluid?

Has anyone tracked at Poconos Raceway? There's an event in early May and ACNA NJ got the use of the entire track. Seems like they will be using the entire Tri-Oval. Anyone have any experiences there?

Few details on the Audi Club NEQ event for those interested
The event is 2 days and the track is shared with the Lime Rock Club. The way that works is NEQ has the track for an hour, then Limerock Club has the track for an hour. This alternates all day, which gives the NEQ guys 4 sessions at about 20 minutes each for each day (so total of 8 sessions of 20 minutes for just about 3 hours of total track time). Must register for both days
I made a post in the regionals forum - there is some room left still, if you want to sign up do so asap! I expect the event will be full within the next week or two. There is always the waiting list too, but we usually only have 2 or 3 people cancel.
Hope to see some of you there! PM me for more details

Both of you are in. At this point there are 3 more student spots remaining - must have been a couple people who renegged. So if anyone else wants to go, 3 spots remaining!!
I will absolutely be there and will make sure I meet you guys. What run groups would you request to be in? For Limerock, we do green, yellow, white, and red (novice to advanced). Green & yellow are grouped together, as are white and red due to the shared track time with the Limerock club. 24 students per combined group.
If you've never driven at Limerock or just just a couple days, you'll get in 'green' or 'yellow' Great instruction though with NEQ. It will be a blast

Hey bigdo, any hotel recommendations for the area?

The Wake Robin is booked, unfortunately. But the Interlaken has set aside rooms for the Audi club for this year's event. If you want to stay, I recommend putting in a reservation soon!
I would recommend yellow if you've had some track experience - green w/Audi club is typically real newbies at track driving.

Hey bigdo, just called Interlaken and the lady who took my reservation wasn't aware of an Audi Club discount, but she gave me their normal 'trac'k rate. Please let me know if there is a better ACNA rate I can follow up on.

I just started arranging rooms with the Interlaken late this past week, so the whole staff probably is not up to speed just yet. I'll advise if there should be a specific ACNA rate

It's a fun park. There are two tracks, with two very different personalities. Lightening is mostly sweeping curves which you can take with fairly fast speeds, so it's a fast, rhythmical track. Many people like this one. Then there is Thunderbolt, which at only 3/10ths longer than lightening will take an instructor 15 secs longer for a lap than Lightening because it is so technical. You should try them, I'm pretty sure you'll have fun! If you do, ping me and I'll see if I can join you.

Haha, I've heard the Glen is a really good track, but I won't go there until I'm much more advanced. NJMP has HUGE runoff areas, very few spots where you will slam into a wall with a small to medium mistake. I hear at the Glen, there's little runoff, and some track out points are right near the walls! Summit Point is next on the agenda for me.

got the hook up from one of the instructors. Staying at some house right across from the track. Really unsure, but the price was right and sounds like a 5 minute walk, so I'm down! I didnt select a run group, how do I do that? I'm usually in yellow (intermediate) at the track days I've done at Loudon, so seeing that I havent done one at LRP, I guess yellow and if I get the track well, I'll ask to move to red or white.

Event masters usually set the run groups based on previous experience - Limerock is tough sometimes cause we share the track and therefore only have 2 real groups on the track. But everyone is usually real good about point bys and such.
I can't wait to run at the Glen. I cancelled my April 30th day there with NASA cause I want to run there after I've done a couple events this season with new tires, new BBK w/track pads, and new tuning. Need to re-learn the car at a track I'm familiar with first!
Need to get the brakes installed... can't wait.

I just saw a youtube video of a DE event at the Glen. That is one long a@@ track! I think the BBK will def'ly help. Which kit did you get?
Good idea about trying mods at a known track. This is the first time I tracked with my sway bars and the tail has never been more eager to step out of line! Good think I left the nannies on! I won't go so far to see it feels like a different car, but the capabilities are certainly noticeably different.

I got the Stoptech ST40 kit. I've got a set of PFC-01 pads and a set of Pagid RS4-4 (Orange) pads for them for the track. Picking up a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric tires for my track wheels tomorrow too.
I need to do the sway bars and I'd like the 4:1 center diff too. My car pushes too much... although relocating my w/m tank to the trunk should help a little :)
The Glen is a long track - the 'climbing esses' into the straight is a loooong section where I would expect 140+ speeds, so the BBK kit is a must. Part of the reason I haven't driven there yet is because I didn't have a capable brake setup. But mine should go on in about 2 weeks.
You run your B8 S4 with the APR stg 2 programming at the track? It must move pretty well! Can't wait to see how you do at LRP. With this warm weather it's killing me knowing the track event is still 2 months away for me!

Haha, I hope I don't disappoint you. I'm still a noob at the track. But this weekend I was at NJMP and have to say, the car kept pace with the Porsches and Bimmers that were there, so I'm feeling pretty good about that. :-)
Was just watching your video of LRP. Can't wait to try it. Seems like a fun, fast track.
A friend of mine installed a Stoptech kit as well and loves it. But be sure you or the shop take the dust shields off the front mounts. His shop didn't, and he went thru a set of pads and rotors in one weekend event because of the extreme heat and not enough air circulating near the brakes because of the dust shields. It's not a ST problem, probably can happen to anyone with a BBK who keeps the dust shield on. Just passing on the tip.

Thanks for the tip on the dust shields - I've read the same. I will certainly be removing them! I've been playing around with cooling duct ideas for a while too, if I have some extra time I'll probably try to get something hooked up.
LRP is a fun track. It's a momentum track, so the little lightweight cars (miata) can do extremely well there. Fun in any car of course!

I am quite familiar with Loudon / NH Motor Speedway and wanted to break in the BBK there, but that wont happen so...LRP is my testing grounds apparently. I'm a bit worried as it seems to be a tighter track than NHMS, but I'm sure it'll be fine.
What I'm alittle more concerned about is cooling. cooling for brakes AND motor (intercoolers). Anyone on here upgraded theirs?
