It has 240 horsepower and 260 ft-lbs of torque. Very impressive torque from a 2.0 liter. It gets to 60 in under 6 seconds and the fuel economy is rated at ~30+ highway mpg, which is quite good. I think C&D estimates the highway miles per gallon to maybe even hit mid to high 30s with the 8-speed auto, which might be a possibility with pure highway.
I have a really really hard time believing that they'll achieve 30mpg overall. I can't see that happening AT ALL. Turbo cars tend to be significantly thirstier in the real world than the EPA ratings suggest, so I'll hold my breath that overall combined miles per gallon won't be anywhere near 30, especially with 30-40% city driving. No way, IMHO.
i've got a 2011 sedan. shits weak. decent daily. QUATTRO!!!!!!
....yeah, but that's unrelated. The F30 3-series 328 won't have the Straight-6 anymore. Brand new turbo 4-cylinder. From the initial testing, it should be significantly quicker than the old N52 I6.
I'm assuming you read the same article I did. I'm very impressed.
Continuing my displeasure from the other thread, yes Audi; Step your muthafuckin game up.
Oh and saying "it doesnt have Quattro" is so subjective, and honestly a moot point based off the OP

I did APR stage 1 for $600 and now I have about 206 HP and 282 TQ at the WHEELS. That will fix your weakness. One 0-60 test using an iPhone app(not accurate) put me at 5.3 one run and 5.8 the next run. Real world driving from San Jose to LA, I have done 32.4mpg on cruise at 78 most the way.

That is nice, but it doesn't get 36mpg and I'm sure a tune can also push it way faster.
Seems like it will also have start/stop tech.
So for cliff notes...
BMW 2.0T 328i
24mpg city / 36mpg hwy
3400 lbs
240hp@5000-6000 RPM
260lb tq @ 1250 - 4800 RPM
0-60 est. at sub 6 sec (5.7-5.9 as per BMW depending on transmission)
Audi A4 2.0T (manual)
22mpg city / 30mpg hwy
3500 lbs (for the FWD!)
211hp@4300-6000 RPM
258lb tq @ 1500-4200RPM
0-60 est. at just over 6 seconds (6.3-6.5 as per Audi depending on transmission)
All I'm saying is that the new 328i is a pretty bad ass car if you don't need the AWD. Audi needs to step up.
Also I don't see how the A4 will be faster than the 328i given that the BMW is lighter, has more power, and more torque over a larger area.
That and the fact that Audi's site says that it's over 6 seconds to 60 vs BMW's sub 6.
As for those of you getting over 30mpg on the A4 it doesn't matter. What is stopping the BMW from going into the 38mpg range? I mean I get 22mpg average on my S4 and I do about 70% driving in the city. It's all about how you drive and I can beat the HWY numbers on both my cars consistently.
Guys, just because we own Audi's doesn't mean we have to be blind to alternatives. All it means is that Audi's engine tech is lagging a bit and they need to get it together. Even BMW's interior is getting better (I can tolerate the new one, but absolutely hated the previous ones).

I agree with everything. The fact is, the 328 will be more fun to drive, have more power and most likely extract better MPG numbers than any 2.0T A4, and let's be honest here, a FWD A4 is NOT really in the same bracket of car as a RWD, BMW 3-series in terms of handling or driving enjoyment. Fundamentally different cars in execution and design goals. If we are talking about performance, who really wants to drive a front heavy, FWD A4 when they can be in the nimble, RWD BMW. Let's not even get into re-flashes. The BMW aftermarket is going to love this new 2.0 liter, and I'm sure you'll see tunes that bring the horsepower up to 300 with just a tune.
There is a reason that the 3-series BMW has been on the C&D Top 10 list for nearly 20 consecutive years, and why it is still the benchmark sport sedan to beat. Others have more power, or more features, but the fundamental feel of the car has remained solid and focused on the driving experience first and foremost. Yes they are too popular in my opinion, and I don't think they are god's gift to mankind but the relentless focus on performance, feel and neutral 50/50 handling are very positive aspects and traits that BMW has never really lost sight of in all the redesigns.
BMW's turbo 4 is brand new and it uses a twin-scroll turbo. Audi's turbo 4 has been around for a long time now and it doesn't have a twin scroll turbo...just a tiny KO3. That said, it's amazing to me that the BMW is only rated 2 lb.ft of torque higher and the torque band isn't very much wider than the Audi torque band. I'm really surprised BMW couldn't pull off more impressive numbers considering that it's a newly designed engine.

It's getting about 20% better fuel economy with more HP and a smidge more TQ. I would say that's pretty impressive.
I'm sure if they tuned it to match Audi's fuel economy it would push out quite a bit more HP/TQ.
Also the BMW TQ band is almost 1000 rpm more than the A4 so it's not a small margin.

This makes no sense^
They arent going to make a 4cyl motor with crazy numbers.like most german made forced induction motors. its probably way under rated, ecm flash and youre setting beast mode
It is under rated like almost all turbo engines, is putting out 265hp and 270tq, here is proof. And oh yeah Audi needs to step up their game big time, new RS4 4.2 450hp-weak!! http://www.autoblog.com/2012/02/16/2...ts-underrated/
