So I closed my account with bank atlantic a couple months ago, which is a pretty small franchise (bank atlantic) and I'm undecided on which bank I want to open a savings and checking account with. Should I basically pick one that offers the most?
I really do not want to pay to have an account, such as checking.
I also want a bank that will be accessible nationally.
How's Wells Fargo (I believe the recently bought out Washington mutual)?
Chase?
All this money on top of my box spring is starting to hurt my back (yeah I wish)!!

PM me if you need any B5 work done in south Florida.
If you lived in WA or have a family member who works at or worked at Boeing the only bank you should think of is
BECU
Boeing Employee Credit Union

I love chase, they just merged with j.p. Morgan. You get free checking and if you set it up to where you have $25 transferred into your savings (from checking) every month then they don't charge you for your savings either.
I'd love to rip on B of A also. I know they're shady,- but in 17 years of banking with them they've been nothing but perfect.
If it's ONLY a bank account, checking/savings/ATM then I can tell you they're as good as the next bank. Do not go into business with them, don't let them have your mortgage, don't do big loans. FWIW I just got a free $250 cash deposit for my B of A credit cards 'points', the reward was from 3 months of average use. I never get a fee for anything, ever- not a penny. And there's an ATM on every corner.
Wells Fargo has fees.
Key Bank has HUGE fees for every-tiny-little-thing. They charge you for blinking.
I have family members that have recently run away from WaMu.
I don't know...
J.P Morgan / Chase is as evil as anything. You can nearly draw a stright line from our current economic crisis to their front door.
ING Direct, they normally give you $25-50 bonus for opening an account and that much again for direct deposit, debit card, and a few other things. I got $250 from them two weeks ago. They even do car loans (lower interest than Audi of America) and home mortgages. As long as you don't mind not having a real bank. I still have Bank of America for when I have to actually deposit a paper check etc.

I was going to say any bank BUT Bank of America but Pete already beat me to it.
I use TD Bank, never had a problem. Even when people fucked me over somehow getting my debit card
and don't forget the Japanese kid that got my itunes password somehow and spent $250 on apps and stupid Jap music.
Luckily, I was reimbursed for everything.

Wrong forum... There is an OT section on AZ for this stuff
BOA(Merill Lynch) is good if you have a lot of money.
I like Wells Fargo(Wachovia) since they offer notary, cashier's check, and many free services to its customers. Chase(Wamu) has been good to me as well!
Credit Union is all I will use since I use to work for one I know all the back-end stuff and rules. To hell with banks! Hide your money in the backyard before a bank! J/K LOL

I personally didn't like chase. Switched to Key over a year ago and haven't had any issues.

Anyway, I dropped BofA back in September because they were charging me $40/mo total for my 3 accounts because I didn't have $1500+ in each. Not baller like that I guess. Short of the long, they just closed my account as of last WEEK because I had a $.02 balance from interest, which they tried to charge a $5 maintenance fee on my account for.
I went with USAA. Once I found out they were open to civilians I was all over that shit. Absolutely free checking (like BofA used to be before they got fuckin greedy) and they reimburse anybody's ATM fees every month (up to 10 withdrawals or $15 worth of fees). Plus, for the geek in me, they have a killer phone app.

Really? With all the amount of garbage topics in the chatterbox and i get called out? You both are geeky.
Lol, some people think chatterbox means garbage can. Just agreeing with nvr, that is actually the ot forum. I would have put this here also. Its a legit question and it is nice to get opinions from the people you know best.
Credit Unions are the way to go. I got charged so much bullsh*t from my previous banks, and not .01 since I have been with my current Credit Union (not exactly how many years it has been thus far). They were even so kind as to reimburse me when someome made an internet purchase with my card, and they issued me a new one for free (Visa). Along with that, they even called me one time because what seemed like fraudulant purchases. I confirmed with them that they were actually all my purchases (maybe 4-5 purchases in like a 10 min window on the internet), but it just felt good that this place looks out for me.
I hate it when my car acts like a little bitch, treating me like the bitch

Credit unions are good, but you have to only be local. i travel a lot so it's a pain. also if you have fraud on your account with a credit union then don't expect to get your funds back quickly.
i work for wells fargo, so i might be partial..
everyone who says don't support big bailout banks is a moron in my opinon....years ago banks were given hell for not approving loans to customers that didn't qualify.....then they approve customers who didn't qualify....now they are given hell again for doing this...
also no one ever told those to refi or buy a house they couldn't afford. they chose to do it

There's SOOOOOOO much more to both the issues you listed than that. But tis the internet, and I have better things to do for once.

Gave BA the boot 4 years ago for my local Credit Union and it was the best decision I've made. I have traveled and when I do there 5,000 other Credit unions in the network so i can still make my normal banking transactions when out of town if i find a in network credit Union. I've done this 2 times with no hassle.
