My freaking clutch went! I can't shift into any gears while the car is on but can when off and when in a gear it moves even with the clutch pushed in...Poor freshman college student with no money for even the basics. Any help? Recommendations? Something. Im loosing my freaking mind.

Sorry I can't be helpful, but an Audi A4 is not meant for someone who can't keep a slush fund for OEM maintenance problems.

well, it just hit when at my worst. If this would of been a 2 months ago i would be fine and gotten a stage 2 or something. Any place to get a cheap clutch? or transmission?
Just driving home while attempting to switch to 3rd gear, it would not let me so i tried to put it back in 2nd and was unable to. It drives but just can't shift gears while the car is on and clutch still grabs when pedal is pushed all the way down, could it be fluid? Or the stick itself? shifting was not smooth at all the week before but i did not really pay to much attention to it.
i would check your hydraulic fluid level and inspect the master and slave cylinders just in case there is some anomaly. the disk probably just wore to its natural death though. its a cheap fix if you do the labor yourself. but expect to be raped if you take it to a shop.
Maybe try to find someone that is parting out a B6, or upgrading to a performance cultch and get their used clutch for the time being? not ideal but maybe you can deal.
I feel your pain as i am also a "poor" college student.
2002 B6 A4 1.8TQM Sport suspension swap, RS4 rear Swaybar, joey mod, plasti-dipped front grills, and rear trunk trim.
Don't hate me but here is an idea, buy an ebay clutch. They are cheap, and would only really be a temporary fix. One of my friends ran a ebay clutch in his 60trim b5 a4 and it held up decently.

Vaelo also sells a clutch kit for around 350$ look for that one.
Also man up and change that shit yourself I'm a poor college student my whole transmission took a shit on me and I swapped it out in my driveway layin on my back.
print out your DIY and go cut some knuckles.
i somehow keep mine running with no money either..its like apersonal challenge and ive never had so much pride in a car i work on myself.
Like a few suggested check your slave/master cylinder first. I had a similar issue where i couldn't change gears at all and thought my clutch was out, replaced the slave and master and it was all good.
Looking at $800+ easy for a shop and parts. Mine went out in my Honda, got all the parts from Honda on a buddies discount and spent about another $500 for the shop too install.
I would love to do everything myself which i try to( did the coils and vcg myself) but i do not have a garage available and i really cannot do it in the street. How much would it be to replace the master and slave cylinder for both parts and labor? I am not broke, but money is just going more into bills than anything else currently and i can't afford to have the clutch go out on me so hopefully its the fluid or cylinders.

why do you need a new transmission?
Which is more cost effective, replacing the clutch or a whole transmission?, i can get one for like 350. Thats why i ask about the transmission
I bet its a hydraulic problem as well. If your trans isn't going into gear at all, its possibly as simple as the clutch isn't physically releasing because the slave rod isn't pushing the pressure plate. Did you check the fluid levels? the brakes and the clutch use the same fluid/reservoir, on top of the brake master cylinder.
You guys are being supremely unhelpful btw. Isn't it you guys who are always annoyed when people assume you're Mr. moneybags because you drive an Audi? And you're telling me you've never been blindisded with a problem at a time when funds are low? Bunch of haters on here this morning...

The slave cylinder isn't that hard, the master was much more of a PITA but not impossible to replace if you're patient.
i used this DIY to get an idea of what to do: http://www.a4mods.com/index.php?page...tml&category=1
slave cyl:
BTW is your clutch pedal normal? mine would stick and only come back halfway up when this happened to me?

I have an extra slave cylinder if needed too, just pay shipping.

Generally a (new or used) transmission wont even come with a clutch, since the clutch is actually bolted to the engine. No sense in spending money on something thats perfectly operational anyways.
Start with bleeding the slave, if that doesnt work, clutch time

Check for leaking fluid, best case scenario it could be a bad seal. The clutch system is relatively simple, not a lot of places to look. Start with the small and cheap stuff first and work your way up!
I love audizine, you are the most helpful people! Anyone who has offered parts will be first on the list if i need it, as of right now i am awaiting income tax check to do a proper diagnosis and repair. I am hoping for it to be either the slave or master cylinder, there is enough hydraulic fluid in the reserve, is that the brake fluid as well, And how will you be able to tell if its the slave of master cylinder?

While driving it does tend to stick but eventually comes all the way up, ant diagnosis for this? Thanks for the info
