    Should I be worried?

    So I will try and make this as short as possible. Sorry for the length

    I ordered my A5 on January 2nd. Salesguy "John" tells me they order on Mondays and my order didn't go in until the 9th. He also tells me I should have more info, which I am assuming is the build date and schedule of delivery and I would get this info in 5-10 business days of when the order was placed.

    So I send him a note today just checking in and seeing if he had any updates for me. He responds like I have already received my schedule and I am like ummm no I haven't received that info.
    Ha apologizes and then sends me the delivery schedule of a car that had an order date of 12/19/11. I am like ok should I adjust this to when my car was ordered and then just add on the days to the delivery date?

    So this is where it starts to get disconcerting. He says No, and then says Black on Black, Prem +, BnO, 19inch wheels, Sport Package, correct? I say no, I did not order the SP and BnO, and I ordered the wood insert, but everything else is right.

    His response copy n pasted from the email:
    Thats your car, so those dates are correct. They probably took a build that was created in December and re allocated it to us so that you can get your car faster, so thats awesome !

    Then I say, okkk....Well I just want to make sure we are on the same page because the specs you quoted below are incorrect. Then he says ..Then this is not your vehicle let me recheck.
    I say John, I am starting to get concerned here.

    He says not to worry and he is talking with the Audi rep, my car will come on schedule, and he is talking to the rep to try and get it in sooner.
    I reply:
    Was the information inaccurate because you have not received a build date from Audi as of yet?
    I don’t know when would be on schedule because I have not received a schedule.
    I was also given the incorrect schedule and then given the incorrect specs on the vehicle and this is disconcerting, so I just want to make sure that everything is on point with the order.

    He replies everything is fine and that was the wrong car he mentioned above bc it was a manual, and mine was auto. I say ok, when can I expect that schedule and/or my build date? Haven't heard back from him since like 5:15pm

    Sorry for length and the back and forth BS...So, I may be overreacting/paranoid here, but should I be worried? I think I have a valid gripe.. It should be noted that when I met him I liked him and I got a good vibe from him and didnt get that douchy sales gay vibe.

    Well, he might have gone home at 515, but give him another day or so, if he still can't get you the answers you want, call the dealer and ask for the sales manager.

    I had a simliar situation where the dealer didn't put the option that I wanted on the vehicle. To make matters worse, the salesman told me that the vehicle was in "production" status (6th week) and that nothing could be changed once the vehicle is "production" status, even though it wasn't scheduled to be built until 2.5 weeks later. To rectify the situation, the GM took another A5 that was on a later built (9th week) date and changed that to my specification. If that didn't work, he told me that he would order me another vehicle, but that would even push the delivery date even further. That wasn't a problem as I wasn't going to pay nearly 55k for a vehicle that I didn't want/order.

    Nick, I would ask the salesman to send you a copy of the vehicle order and make sure all your options that you want or don't want is included. In addition, the vehicle order will tell you the production week, port date, truck date and etc.

    Oh Boy-The Saga begins. I just spoke to the salesman, I don't even know what to say. The long and short of it is, Audi has reached its max with building 2012 and they are not accepting orders until they start building the 13s. So basically I have no order as of now. FML.

    He was then on the phone with the Audi rep trying to match up my requests with some of the cars that are being allocated that they can get on the dealership lot for me. None of the five he rattled off exactly match what I want, one has Nav and some other shit but now I am paying more than what I ordered. WTF

    Is this something I should take his word on or you think they are trying to fck with me to get me to buy a car off their lot?

    Call the dealership back, ask for the sales manager. If he can't get you your car, call back and ask for the owner, if he can't get it, tell him you want your deposit back and you are taking your business elsewhere. Then send a letter to AoA and the President of AoA about how messed up that dealer is.
    Then, go to a different dealer. That is crap

    Nick,

    Ask the dealership that you're working with to see if he has any allocations for an A5. If he has, ask him to modify that vehicle. Any vehicle can be changed provided that it's not in production status. This is what Audi NA told me. If he doesn't have any allocation, take your business elsewhere.

    You're buying a new car, not a used one. Why settle for less than what you want? It's not chump change we're talking about. Also you can contact Audi NA (1-800-822-2834) and have them speak to the dealership for you and maybe they can get it changed for you. I called them years ago for another vehicle and they were able to override the changes, provided that it wasn't in production status.

    I would just go straight to the General Manager, that's what I did with my current A5 on order. The salesman didn't know much and wasn't willing to change anything. He kept telling me that my A5 is already in production status and they're not building new 2012 A5s. I didn't buy that at all, and spoke with the General Manager and told him I'll take my business to another dealership. He made a couple of phone calls and got a new A5 built to my spec by the end of the day. Granted, we have purchased all our Audis from the same dealership...

    Should you be worried? Not really, but you should definitely be annoyed.

    Audi did the same thing to me when I was trying to order an A5. If you're at the dealership, they'll give u responsive answers and make you feel like you're a VIP. However, since you're ordering the car, right when you walk away, that's when the bull shit will start adding up.

    In my experience (ordered a car two times with two different dealers and viewing others experience on AZ), Audi rarely has a car allocated to them.

    After you place an order, they're supposed to give you a commissioner number and a build date.

    If they didn't give you either, you're pretty much going to wait until they have an allocation.

    Some dealers may tell you, they have one coming towards them, and they can call Germany to make changes to the allocation (which rarely happens, but not never).

    After 5 months of BS, i ended up purchasing a used '10 S5 and called AOA for free Audi Care for the two BS dealers. They wouldn't give me a damn thing because I didn't purchase a vehicle at an Audi Dealer.

    Ordering a car is a real pain. Especially if you were trying to get an '11 (back then you could get Titanium Package without getting Prestige). Long story short, Ordered the car in Jan 11, was told in May 11 that my car would be a '12 and I would lose the TI package. If you want the car exactly the way you want, be prepared for the wait.

    you should never pay for more then what you agreed upon on the first day, it sounds like out of the 5 cars he mentioned, one of them had everything you wanted, plus, nav and "other stuff"

    i would go down in there person and calmly but firmly ask to see to the manager, have a sit with him and let him know the following:

    "i ordered x car, with x options, and for x price, as i understand, that cannot happen anymore bc audi has hit their order max. I ordered the car the way i wanted it with my specs in check, I agreed on a premium price bc of it (even if you didn't). From what salesmen A says, there is a car on the lot, with what i want, but with nav, and other options. in my original order, i did not specify that i wanted these extra features, however if you can do it for the previously agreed upon price for the car in which you guys screwed up on, i am game"

    be prepared to walk, but from what i understand, you may be able to get the car you wanted with extra features, i know you may not have wanted nav....but if the price tag was free would you still object?


    as far as i see it, the situation does suck, but i believe a rather large bargaining chip just landed in your lap, i would play it out. at the end of the day, if you are not satisfied with the car, walk from the deal, but the dealership made an error, and if it was not for you calling, they would have hid behind this, its a good thing you caught it.

    also, don't go in there hot tempered, if your upset about it, wait a day or two and go in with a calm head, i can;t say this for 100%, but im willing to bet a dealer is much more likely to reason with a guy who seems level headed then a nut case who loses his temper (not that you have or anything, im just offering a friendly reminder to go in calm bc i know how frustrating it can be sometimes )

    this is exactly what I did. Over the weekend I negotiated with my local dealer for a vehicle I wanted that had to be ordered. No problem. When I come in the next day, I am told they cant order any more 2012s so they will try to locate a similar car for me. Of course they find a bunch of cars with features I didnt want. The difference in price with all the options was over $6K. I told them I would take one that has the same ext and int as the one I originally wanted but will not pay more for the extra stuff. After much negotiating I ended up getting the car with exta stuff (B&O, Nav, rear differential, carbon inlays) for a monthly payment that was only a few dollars more than what I originally agreed to. So even though I did ended up paying a bit more, the dealer essentially gave me $6k worth of options for about $1500. But like mr shickadance says, be prepared to walk. I walked out twice before the dealer was willing to get close to my original negotiated price.

    Well here is the update as of now..About an hour ago I called in and asked for the GM. He told me my salesguy was out to lunch but I had a feeling he was probably sitting in the room Anyways. I basically shared with him my frustration, was not angry or anything like that, but was telling him how I felt it was handled, basically what Shicka said above. I said I never wanted those features and they are nice, but I don't want to spend extra for something I didn't want in the first place.

    So I basically said if you can meet me at this price (I came up a few hundred) for the one quoted which has all the extras, then I will request my deposit back and walk, which I am prepared to do. The difference in what he quoted me for the new car and what I said I would pay is approximately $1400.

    Nick,

    If you have the time, I would personally walk in and negotiate even further. Most of the time, a face to face interaction would yield better results. Plus, it'll allow you to confort the salesman and basically call him out.

    Before you get your deposit back, remind them that you have a legal contract with them and then go to the GM.

    Damn Nick...I hate to hear this. From our email conversations I know you were were super pumped about this car! Maybe go in to the dealer as suggested. This is one of those deals were Audi could have gained a lifetime customer plus fam and friends as well. Stupid...

    Yah it sucks man I am pretty bummed about it. Back to square 1 I guess, I am talking with another local dealership so it may not be dead yet. But if that one doesn't work out I may be SOL

    Agreed...you can probably use this terrible experience to get a good deal at the next dealership you try.

    Update-I went to the dealership straight from work. I requested to meet with the salesguy and the GM. I sat with them for about 20 mins overall, the first 7-8 minutes it was just me talking. I didn't go in there yelling, but I did let them know how I felt and how it was handled. I told them a very big part of me wanted to request my deposit back and walk and I felt that I was fcked with a bit, and the worst part was that if I didnt check in with them, I would be la di da da with my head up my ass thinking my Audi is being built soon. So, they told me they just received the news today, and they apologized profusely as the salesguy got confused with another order which is why he misquoted me on the stuff I mentioned in the OP. He let me know there were 5 clients/orders including me that this happened to so yada yada. It should be mentioned that I spoke to two other dealers who told me they could order and I made them confirm with their order mgr and then they said you are right we cannot do 2012 a5 orders anymore.

    So the result was there was a list of 5-6 cars that were allocated that they can grab. This was one of the cars mentioned above, I apologize if I made it seem the car with the extra stuff was on the lot because it is not, it was a car that was arriving in a few weeks that they can get a hold of. They told me the price quoted was the best they could do for the nav one and they couldn't come down to what I wanted bc I was sticking hard to that number which would have been an absurd deal if I couldve pulled it off.

    Now they had another one that is everything I wanted except the wood insert. So 2012 A5 Black on black with 19inch Ys Premium Plus. We basically came to the agreement that they would take $500 off my balance and they would tint the car for free as well. The other good news is that these cars are scheduled to arrive in port 2/7 and be in the dealership on 2/13. So I agreed to that, and will have it that week. I basically said at the end,...now is there anything that could Fck this up? He let me know that as of 4pm today nobody had requested it and Audi closes up at 5 so first thing in the morning he would grab the car. Said very small chance it could not be available, but I will know for sure in the morning but he told me we should be all good.     I connected with the salesguy, he sent the request first thing and is awaiting the confirmation so nothing set in stone. The one I would be getting doesnt have the wood insert.

    send an email out to matt@ocarbon, he is pretty popular in some of the older models, but he has done carbon wrapping with trim pieces for the a5/s5 line too, he often will trade with you for certain trims, i can imagine a cf trade for a wood insert which he could later flip for $ might be something he could be interested in. Also, toss it up there on the classifieds as a trade, your cf trim for someones wood trim....personally i think the cf trim is way more popular than wood but everyone has different tastes, what im saying is you can certainly get around that issue.

    i have aluminum trim but sadly thats not what you are looking into

    lol mop...The saga continues...He let me know he got an out of office reply with the lady who is the SouthEast but then he was able to get her on phone on her home number. He told me she said I can have the car as long as it is available so we would have first dibs and that I will have a hard answer tomorrow. Then I asked well does she need to approve on every allocation in which his response was :

    Yes, she has a bank of cars for the southern US that she can allocate depending on sales or special circumstances. Mostly she gives them to the dealers she thinks can sell them, as she probably gets bonuses on regional sales,but also for special circumstances, like in this case.

    Shicka: I actually sat in an A5 last night that had the stock trim and I liked it so if this one gets wrapped up I will probably just let it be. Thanks for the heads up though
