I'm part of the RIT DH team, and we just got back from our yearly trip to Ray's Indoor MTB Park in Ohio. What a fantastic place, if anyone is a cyclist definitely check this place out.
Decent video I made of the place, low indoor lighting was not ideal for the go-pro, but I think it came out pretty good.
Looks kind of fun, I have never been to an indoor pike park because it just seems wrong. When I go riding I want to be out in the woods. It probably also doesnt help that I have never owned a hardtail/small travel bike.

i used to ride with all the pros outa nj, aaron chase, lenosky, porter.. and i always wanted to go to rays, but then i got into paintball, and stopped working at the bike shop i was at.. and their went my mtb life..
But I built one of these JUST for stuff like that. Super light, I custom laced the triple walled wheels myself with the 22mm maverick inverted fork setup with a tiny driveline. Super fun stuff
I rode DH for Giant for years, and my sponsor tried to give me the "team" edition STP, but it was super bright queer blue. Gave him one of these faces. Had the brown one a week later lol

One of my teammates had one and I could hardly ride around the parking lot. You use your weight and leg muscle to slow down, if you forget, you get launched lol. He rides clipped in too! F-that
Never rode a 29'er either. Always wanted to build one for myself though. Giant only recently started making their Anthem and XtC in a 29'er but I don't ride for them anymore... so no more freebies and my $5k bike days are over
i love 29ers...the bottom bracket clearance and larger wheels really do make it easier to roll over stuff that was impossible(for me anyway) on my 26" bike. I really havent noticed any of the "less responsive, poorer turn in" type talk that ive heard. I'm sold on them, i wont buy another 26" bike. rode 12.5 miles yesterday and my elbows are killing me right now so i may throw a suspension fork on he at some point, but other than that its great. I'm liking the simplicity of the SS setup too, here in DE i could only see going with a 1x9 at the most. It would help with a bit more speed on the top end and with a few really steep sections, other than that SS has it covered...just gotta remember to nut up and pedal lol

I haven't rode my bike in a year. Destroyed the rear suspension on a small 6 ft drop of all things. Right a round that time I got my car and haven't had the money to fix it since. I really want to get another hard tail. I rode my Mongoose IBOC for years and years until it finally called it quites. Miss riding that bike, it was a great and never broke.
Before you decide on a hard tail, ride a full suspension cross country bike (usually 2"-4" of travel). They put down your power like a hard tail, climb like a hard tail, but saves your ass... literally lol.
I demo'd a Moots YBB for a few months and it was probably the most comfortable bike I ever rode. I think Moots actually makes the YBB in a 29er too, that would probably be the perfect trail bike IMO.
Rays is awesome! A few ppl from here ride at Rays. I used to go all the time last winter but haven't had a chance to get up there yet this year. Hopefully soon!
Some good lookin hard tails! I sold mine last year so I could fund my new DH build.
Turner DHR, got her down to 38.4lbs! Very good for a full DH bike
Sub 40 is nice and light for a DH bike. You'll really see the benefit in jumps and cornering. Looks like you have Maxxis Minions, are you tubeless? I switched to Mavic Crossmax DH wheels and Michelin tubeless tires, allowed me to run a 2.8 up front and 2.6 in back and still drop a pound of weight from my old 2.4 wheel/tire combo.
Where do you ride? I'm assuming Rochester & Belmont meaning NY?
My bike has 5" of travel up front and 4" out back. I want a hard tail in addition to my full suspension. I like the hard tail for more technical stuff and riding around on the street.
i ride bmx. me and my buddies made a full length dvd. you should check it out we spent 2 years on it and it came out pretty damn good imho. dvd is only 4 bucks.
i'm trying to get into it more. have had this bike since i was 14, 23 now. want to get a full suspension bike, but i wouldn't need that in my area. i've actually made 2-3 threads on AZ, here and gcc, about bikes...since i've been wanting the full suspension. most of you guys recommended modding my hardtail instead of 'wasting' the money on a full susp bike. can't wait for spring this year. gonna 'train' way harder
i really need to get one of those chain things so it doesn't slap around. when i go down some of the decent trails here it hits hard...it's actually started to chip through the paint down to the aluminum
cool thing i found out yesterday, is you can use google maps for bike trails now!

very simple, go to your local bike shop, ask for a used tire out of the garbage. go home with tire. cut it up into long strips. and place stips on frame. get 3 zip ties. and zip tie the tire parts onto the frame. you never have to worry about it again.
if your talking about those lizard skins with velcro. they are a waste of money.

Yup this is the way to do. Another alternative is to buy road bike grip tape (the type you wrap your road bars in). Cheaper than lizard skins, more than the free tube, but I think this way looks much cleaner, and plus you can get any color grip tape you want. Its also cushioned fairly well, so it should make the chain clanking quieter than the cut up tube.
I wanted to get into Mountain bikes, we've got some trails around here where you really can use a full suspension bike and it would be a lot of fun.
