Rain & Light Sensor and Headlight Assist Wiring VAG COM Help!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Ok Guys,

I received my wiring loom from Kufatec along with all sorts of other bits n' bobs needed to do the Headlight Assist, Auto Dim Mirror and Rain/Light Sensor. If you have been following this thread http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...r-models/page4 I feel that Peeet might be able to shed some light but I don't know if her frequents the forums much

I'm having trouble with the wiring. Since kufatec did not supply any English instructions I had to use google translate to translate the german ones. It all seemed self explanatory. But unfortunately that wasn't the case.
You can see the instructions here. http://api.viglink.com/api/click?for...13278786917363

I have installed the pins in their respective positions. Except for the following:

T16b/2 which is a small beige connector on the same BCM as the one used for the headlight (if you did that conversion).

Which is located in this region.

    .
There is already wiring in Pin 2. Soo i'm not sure what to with it:

The instructions in German and translated via google:

    Anschluß Leitung Regensensor
    Bordnetzsteuergerät
Entnehmen Sie den 16-poligen Stecker (Beige). Verbinden Sie die Leitung wie folgt.
    T16b/2 - PIN 2
    Rain sensor connection cable
    Control unit
Remove the 16-pin connector (Beige). Connect the cable as follows. T16b/2 - PIN 2
The other is in the BCM in the trunk on the right side. Again same story there is already a wire in there.

Entnehmen Sie den 32-poligen Stecker (Schwarz), Verbinden Sie die Leitung wie folgt (Löt-oder neue Crimpverbindung). Keine Quetschverbinder verwenden!
    T32c/32 - PIN 32
Remove the 32-pin connector (black), you connect the cable as follows (solder or new
    Crimp). No use crimp!
    T32c/32 - PIN 32
Then finally i'm not sure about the power setup. I connected the fuse holders from the loom into the brown Fuse holder:

ST2 Fuse 1 which is for the Interior Mirror:

ST2 Fuse 12 which is for the Rain/Light Sensor:

Kufatec does not tell you which cable is which in their loom just that one is
Die Leitungen für Zündungsplus und Dauerplus sind mit dem jeweiligen Sicherungsträger zu verbinden. Bitte vor der Installation prüfen welcher Sicherungsträger Zündungs- oder Dauerplus führt.
    Translates to
The wiring for ignition and duration Plus Plus are the respective fuse holders
to connect. Please check before installation which fuse carrier or continuous positive ignitionleads.
Which I can only assume means one needs to come one with the ignition and the other needs to be constant. The bottom doesn't have power to it and the other one does and is continuous. Which im not sure if thats correct?

I have made the follow VAG changes but I get Malfunctioing Light/Rain Sensor warning and Main Beam Assist: System Fault.

    Code:
    Adresse 46 (HighBeam assistant)
    Byte 06 -
    Bit 2 auf 1 setzen
    xxxxx1xx
    Code:
    Adresse 09 (Control Unit)
    Byte 22 Byte 05 Byte 06
    - Bit 0 auf 1 setzen - Bit 6 auf 1 setzen - HEX: AF
xxxxxxx1 (Regen- Lichtsensor) x1xxxxxx (Fernlichtassistent) (Coming Home, Leaving Home)
    I don't or can't access Address 20

    Code:
    Address 20 (high beam assistant)
    Byte 00 - Byte 01 - Byte 02 -
    HEX: 02 HEX: 01 HEX: 98

Any one care to shed some light (excuse the pun)!

Check with DavidB8, not sure how much he is going to be on here as he is getting ready to move across Canada, but he has already done this on his own without Kufatec.

Hmm It now seems I have a bigger problem! I can't get my VCDS to work! I'm getting "Port OK, Interface Not Found" yes the car ignition is on and securely in the ODB. I'm using 912, but have to use the drivers from the latest 11.11 version since i'm running Windows 7 x64.

I've done a system restore and uninstalled/reinstalled with no luck!

    Idea's here!

    T16b PIN2,
    Has more functions.
Audi make the split in the main streng.
So you have also to make a split in the wirering.
You can see, its the violete/white cable in the drawing.
T16b PIN2 is used for the rain/light sensor G395 and also for the BCM from the two wipper engines J400

    T32c PIN32
    Same story, also more functions.
Audi make the split in the main streng
So you have also to make a split in the wirering
You can see, its te violet/yellow cable in the drawing.
T32c PIN32 is used for a lot of things, its from the air humidity sensor G355.
Used for: alarm system sensor G578 - sunroof V1 - garage opener BCM J245 - Diagnost interface and J533 and lot more.

    Peet thank you very much!

I went ahead and spliced into the T32 line which was violet/yellow(or green couldn't tell with the low light)

I will splice into T16 tonight if I can since i'm on lunch break and i have to remove the lower dash etc.

I will let you know what happens!

I STILL cannot access VCDS I keep getting a Port Ok Interface Not Found! I think it must be the fact the battery isn't fully charged.

    Update

I spliced in T16b in Pin 2 and T32c in pin 32 still no change and still can't access via Vagcom. Either my cable is just not playing nice or something is going on with the car!

I guess part 2 of my issue is the power, where should I be connecting this up to?

Just to update everyone on the status of this.

I went over my wiring again today and got the power situation right
    Ignition for AutoDim.
    Constant for Rain/Light Sensor.

    AutoDim is functioning fine.

Rain/Light Sensor is still has an error.
This is a head scratcher as this has been done many times in the VAG world and its three pins:
    1 to Ground
    1 to T16b Pin 2
    1 to Constant Power ST2 Fuse 12

Highbeam Assist still malfunctioning. I might give up on this if I find that I need a new BCM module, as I'm pretty sure that I do not have this, feel free to confirm.
I also believe that the mirror I purchased is for the 3-zone not the single-zone A/C it has the metal button which I think is for the humidity sensor which feeds to T17c pin 32 in the trunk.

    See crappy video of error.

With me was the same situation when encoding COMFORT MODULE 46. When adding a mirror with humidity sensor fotochrom COMFORT accepts no encoding, just my MODUL does not support this option .

OK I have a progress report.

Got my VCDS working with some major rigging (106 cable, 912Beta Software, running on Virtual XP) and being buggy as hell.

Anyways I disabled the headlight assist option which cleared that error since we know we need an additional BCM module for that. I can live without it.

This is the error I get from the rain/light sensor:

01520 - Rain and Light Recognition Sensor (G397)
    008 - Implausible Signal
    Freeze Frame:
    Fault Status: 01101000
    Fault Priority: 3
    Fault Frequency: 1
    Reset counter: 61
    Mileage: 30016 km
    Time Indication: 0
    Date: 2012.03.24
    Time: 11:51:0011:41 AM 3/24/2012
Anyone with any ideas? I've scoured Google and found one guy with this error but he already had RLS but when they replaced his glass they broke it and the replacement threw the error the thread then dropped. http://forums.subdriven.com/showthre...sensor-coding.

    I really hope it's a bad sensor. I know it's the right sensor for the B8 A4/A5.

The other possibility is it could be because it does not have the silicon that attaches to the windshield. I just have it loose tucked into the headliner.

Just so you know I was kidding. I'm going to whip out my multimeter and do a continuity test on the wiring. I have a sneaky feeling I could have killed the sensor when I was trying to get the power right. Multimeter will tell all!

@haroulli did you managed to fix it?
BTW have you got 5F (MMI 3G) VCDS coding list? I just installed the rain/light sensor and can't switch it on

No I don't have MMI 3g but the link to the instructions above have the coding, however this also includes the headlight assist.

ON VEHICLES WITH ADDITIONAL MMI 3G - address 5F
    Byte 07 - Bit 4 auf 1 setzen xxx1xxxx

You also need to enable this in the Long Coding section of 09 :

    Adresse 09 (Control Unit)
    Byte 22 - Bit 0 auf 1 setzen = xxxxxxx1 (Regen- Lichtsensor)
Byte 06 - HEX: AF (Coming Home, Leaving Home)

Good Luck Let us know if it works!

I saw this German pdf file and I did switch correct bytes, but only for the rain/light sensor - my mistake
After your post I had to go with the coming leaving home option and it WORKS ! Thanks Haroulli

Only one suggestion: when I have changed the in 09 byte 06 to AF in hexadecimal coding, then I get different values in module 5F (MMI 3G).

Later next week I will scan car by the VCDS to find out if there any errors... Once more thanks :)

Both I installed it my self but It never worked but I think its because the wiring was wrong and i blew the sensor. So now i ordered another one.

I didn't bother to supply power from the main Electric Fuse, went from cabin light and got the power from there 12V. and I run only one cable from the beige plug 16 pin 2
Did you check the power in the plug on the sensor end?

Yep, I did a continuity test. I used the Kufatec wiring for the rain sensor and headlight assist retrofit.

BINGO!!! tell us how did you get it working in detail please

It's very simple really the only thing that set me back is the headlight assist which is not going to work. Kufatec have the wiring kit for the rain sensor and autodim mirror.

did you go to the "green menu in you mmi 2G/3G" and check and change the value in the car device list coming/ leaving home module?
maybe that will do the trick

Yeah I have that enabled already and tried playing with the settings.

Was your Rain Sensor brand new or used?

I bought sensor new but not from the dealer, after market was much cheaper.
Plug from Audi and I made cables my self.

This coding helped me: Byte 06 - HEX: AF (Coming Home, Leaving Home)
Just change the hex value, "AF" does not coming on when you tick on or select boxes from the list below!

which plug are you referring to? and where are you getting the power from? the dome light fuse or the actual dome light?

dome light plug (8th pins one), the way was shorter, and hence there is 20 amps fuse and constant supply of 12V, thats OK
    works with no errors
