    Long time lurker first time poster....and it's a duesy!!

    I'm looking to borrow / rent a cam lock tool and crank lock pin for a b5 S4.
    Anyone in the Bay Area have one that I can use? I'm in the SC mountains but could drive anywhere in the area and pick it up.
    I have a spark plug thread that has blown out and is totally stripped and I need to repair it.

    It looks like there are two camps of thought on this

    1) Just get a TIME SERT installed by a shop and it should be fine.

    2) Pull the head and have it repaired so that no metal shavings or debris gets into the cylinder.

    I have gone as far as removing the valve cover and intake manifold but I would like some advice before biting the bullet and removing the head.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    you should be find with a time sert not worth pulling head unless motor needs a rebuild, just make sure you get all shavings with a small magnet, I would put that cylinder in top dead center so when the chips fall it doesnt fall to far in the hole, take your time and you will b ok most of my friends always screw things up when they are rushing to finish the job and I have to save the day thats ok if they pay me to save their ass.

    time sert should b ok just take yur time, use a small magnet out of a magnetized antenna mast and you'll be able to pick upthe chips plus use grease to minimize the chips in the first place.

    I have seen a product that you can repair the existing threads but not sure how well that works, if it was me time sert FTW.
