Pistons/Rings Replaced = Still Burning Oil Help

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello,

I was burning about .98L/1000km. Did oil consumption test and failed. Changed the pistons and rings.
It is still burning oil. Told me to try a few thousand kms for the rings to sit properly. 5000km later. It is burning about .85L/1000km, that wasn't the problems.

Audi topped it off 650kms ago and now it is at 50%. They refuse to do another oil consumption test. I have to pay for it on my own...

    What can i do?

Contact Audi of Canada customer support and tell them what happened. If the dealership is not supporting the campaign even after the test, AofC should be made aware of this and they should be able to help out.

Are you talking about? I've just called them and they said I have to deal with the dealer directly as the repair was done there they have to rectify it. Sorry we can't help...

Not true. My 2009 has never burned oil. The problem isn't based on MY, it's just "luck" of the draw.....hit or miss....you just happened to miss.

Sounds like they need to take the next step and swap your engine block.
I've heard a few mentions of engine swaps by forum members.
So they will do it if you push the issue.

So they will change the block not the entire engine?

Yeah check my "piston ring" thread.
That's the next step according to one of the resident service advisors.

I spoke to the service manager. He told me wait till I hit 1000km as I had paid to top it off a few weeks ago. When I do hit 1000 he will check with the dip stick and call Audi for furthur action.

How did you get them to extend your warranty?

Waiting on the official letter from AOA that shows warranty extension....

I basically negotiated it before I went in for the work to get done.
Worked with the Manager at the dealership and opened a case with AOA customer service.
I took the stance that this is a major warranty claim and I want some assurances that it will get done right.
So extend my warranty or this will be my first and last Audi.

I did 1000km and the mechanic checked with dip stick and it shows about .6L missing but when he added oil to full he only added .45L.
Taking it for a long drive now. already at 433km and I'm at 70% on the MMI

I have 2011 A4 and just had 15,000miles service (Now 18,000 miles).... MMI screen shows about 1/6 left to the minimum oil level.
I just called the dealer and he said that is common and I should not worried about. true?
or should I go and refill the oil? Is it cover by Audicare?

Wow they actually replaced pistons and rings under warranty? Generally it's less expensive to just swap out the engine with a reman unit, this is the first time I've heard of Audi doing this under warranty.

By me they are doing 2 a week at the shop.
    Parts themselves are around $1500.
No idea what the labor would run.
I must have cost AOA 10k in warranty repairs already on my car.

Well if it makes you feel better, I'm at 750 miles and the mmi is down 2/5 now.
Maybe the rings need time to seat properly....

I do find it interesting that Audi would put a digital display for oil level in the car.
Almost like they expect the $hit to burn up between oil changes....

Anyway at this rate I will be at 1500 miles with the oil min light on......
I guess pushing for a new engine would be next....

dealership recently replaced pistons and rings on my wife's B8 (MY 2010) sedan and it's still using oil. Will be taking it back soon to figure out the next step. My Avant (MY 09) hasn't used an excessive amount of oil and I just turned 40k.

I am purchasing a 2009 A4 that has had the engine replaced with a remanufactured unit due to excessive oil consumption. The Audi I am purchasing is from Park Avenue Audi in Brossard, Quebec. The car was originally owned (and believe the engine was replaced) in Ontario. Maybe try calling Park Avenue Audi (450) 445-4811. If you want I can send you a copy of the service records to prove that this is an issue and that Audi should replace the engine.

I would be alomost 100% sure of this being a remanufactured engine. Like I said before.......you need to complain to AOC. The dealership is hosing you......this is a known issue on these cars and they're ignoring it.You need to get tough with them....right now they're walking all over you.

I would rather keep my engine than them putting a remanufactured engine...
I want either NEW or fix mine
