When the cop walked up to my window I said, "Sorry officer could you hold on for a minute while I put my lipstick on, I like to look pretty before I get fucked." I didn't actually say this lol, it was a Southpark reference. If you were driving into Boulder right at noon today, you probably drove past a new grey B8 pulled over and laughed...yep that was me.
Anyone familiar with the descent into Boulder after McCaslin knows that the speed limit drops at the bottom of the hill. I irresponsibly got agitated on the road and sped up, only to suffer the consequences of driving too fast. I have since paid the ticket and accepted the responsibility, yet want a little advice.
I think it's time to invest in a radar detector to try to avoid some of these tickets...so I come to all of you for advice. What are the radar detectors you have or the ones you would suggest? If you know of a place that gives good deals on built in ones, I'd be interested in that too - the more subtle the better.
Your advice is appreciated, again, I apologize to you all for my original post here - I never intended it to come off disrespectful or irresponsible, I sometimes forget on here that we don't all know each other on a personal basis.
Here's a new pic, since I'll stick with the theme I had at first, but something a little more light hearted that I hope everyone can enjoy.

Reason: Removing the unintended disrepect, sorry everybody
Damn dude that sucks. I'm sure you could just buy the V1 and get it all stealthy with that write up in here. Mount the remote sensor in the grill and the indicator in the rear view and have that just in case. What did you get clocked at?
Talk about not accepting responsibility for your actions. The Police didn't screw you out of $300.00, you did. They are doing their job, you were speeding, that is the way it works.

Best advice is to know where the hot-spots are. Going down that hill you should always expect a cop. Another thing I like to do is open my door and do a combat roll out while escaping the cops. When I don't die they normally let me go with a warning.

came here for advice not to be criticized. but thanks for your input, much appreciated!

I was thinking about the V1. I've heard pretty good things about it.
I'd suggest Escort or Beltronics. Look into the 9500ix or the RX65. Both two of the top notch detectors on the market. And the technology involved with the 9500ix, is pretty wild.

I have the V1 and it works great, but from the situation you described no radar detector would save you unless he had activated it on someone in front of you. In a city there are so many automatic door sensors on businesses that create false positives, it's hard to react fast enough. I've read the 9500i is worth it because of the false positive suppression faature combined with your GPS location, but you don't get the forward and reverse arrows that the V1 has. Any more I see radar detectors more as toys/gadgets on road trips, I don't relay on them, most police are switching to laser, and nothing can detect laser early enough to save you, once it detects the laser you are already busted. You would need a laser jammer which I think are illegal.
From your attitude I would say Boulder is the last place you should be spending any time. Grow up and take responsibility for your actions! Once a law is passed, it's the cop's job to enforce it. Would you drive down a one way street the wrong way because it got you where you were going quicker and then rant about the cops if you got busted breaking the law? If you don't agree with a law, either move somewhere with different laws, lobby your senator to change the law :) or accept the consequences when you break it.
I also wanted a stealthy set up. Bought a Whistler pro 3450 (Only cost $180) and works great. It's the cheapest "built in system". The radar detector sits behind the grill, laser detector behind the mirror and the receiver is down near the center console bolted in. I might take some pics tonight to show you. I'v had it for about 2 years and it has definitely saved me from a few tickets. In my opinion, that one is the best bang for you buck. Bundle that together with Trapster (GPS or phone) and some VEIL and you should be set.
Thanks everyone for giving me your thoughts on different radar detectors. But for those of you here to just criticize because I was speeding, keep it to yourself. I know I was speeding, I can accept the consequences of my "illegal actions." Just thought I'd share a story with other Audi drivers who know the frustrations of getting stuck behind someone slow and wanting to enjoy your car and push it past them. Yeah, the cop was doing his job, yes I was speeding. Yes, I'm unhappy that it costs me $300 but that's a risk you take when you speed. I get that. And yeah, I respect the police for what they do and how they serve and protect the community. It was just a shitty situation as I was trying to get somewhere on time from a job interview. If it would be better, I'll keep my posts really boring and straight to the point so nobody will reply - "what are good radar detectors I should look at?"
Happy Friday everyone, thanks again to those of you who advised me on what I really came here to find out.

Are you sure you respect the Police? Doesn't seem like it for blaming them, and for posting that picture saying "Fuck the Police" I think you need to learn what respect is.

Okay I shouldn't have posted some of the stuff I did initially, kinda hard to guess how people will react to with any sarcasm and/or jokes that are not easily understandable without knowing the person. I certainly wasn't trying to disrespect anyone here, someone sent me that picture and I thought it was kinda funny for the time, but I should have kept it on my phone and not posted it here.I typically don't drive like a jackass, but you're right, I should take the car to a track to really have fun with it. It's easy to say this stuff in retrospect, but I certainly didn't mean to offend anyone. I paid the ticket, have no reason to fight it because I was speeding (I was actually only going 70 in the 60 where it suddenly changes, nonetheless, still speeding), and that's it, so I apologize for starting this thread in the way I did.
Again thanks to anyone who gave me some advice on radar detectors, though it sounds like they have become a little bit less useful than they used to be. On this note, I'm going to edit my first post, since you are right, that isn't respect for the police (I didn't intend it like this).
As far as the attitude on this forum, I again apologize; the forum has proven to be a very valuable resource to me thus far and I hope to continue learning through the people on this site. rvcfireman and Alex_Mk3, I apologize to you two personally, I agree with the things you both have said and do not want to bring any hard feelings for the future on this forum. Have a good weekend everybody, if you get a chance to get to the mountains, Vail had a pretty nice dumping last night so it could be a good weekend! Take good care.
It takes a big man to apologize, especially on a public forum. No worries man, I'm sure you were pissed, it is a normal reaction for a situation like that. With that said, sometimes it is good to take a deep breath before we vent, just my .02.

Yeah I posted it pretty soon after it happened so I needed to step back a little bit for sure, lesson learned for the future. But again, thanks for chiming in, I do appreciate and respect everyone's opinions though it came off as if I didn't at first. Have a good weekend, I'm sure I'll see you on here in the future as well!
Very happy with the Beltronics GX65. Nice to be able to block out the false alarms from motion doors and the like. Also get alerts of speed traps so that helps with areas using Laser.
I understand that the "conflict" in this post is resolved, but I'd like to play devil's advocate. First of all I'd recommend a Valentine radar detector if you're going to buy one. They are upgradable, so if there are any new advances, for a nominal fee you can have your current device upgraded rather than buying a new one. I owned one a couple years back, and it worked GREAT.
Next, there is a reason why its called a speed "trap" because police sit in locations where it is natural to break the speed limit. At the bottom of a hill... really? I used to coast downhill with the car off and break the posted speed limit in some spots. Yes the speed limit is a law. Yes the officer that issued the ticket was enforcing that law. Speeding tickets are as much a form of revenue for the local government as they are a penalty to speeding drivers. I don't know about "Riverslime, Crapafornia" (that's respect right there) but living in a college town that is similar to Boulder I know first hand that driving an Audi is an invitation to be pulled over for the slightest infraction. Public roads are banked so that in dry conditions an alert driver can easily do 20mph above the posted speed limit safely. They have to be to allow emergency vehicles to handle safely at the high speeds that they are allowed to drive at. So while millerns may have been braking the law, I highly doubt that his modified sport sedan posed any more danger to the public than the guy eating a cheese burger while driving the speed limit 4 cars behind him. We have to take his word that he was only doing 70 down hill in a 60 mph zone, but still. At least we know he was paying attention to the road. (otherwise he wouldn't have been pissed at the driver in front of him)
I didn't get to read the original disrespectful post. Millerns had already apologized and edited the offending material before I even showed up. Technically I shouldn't even be posting since the matter is resolved now, but as a wise man once said

I know that as a whole police do A LOT more good than harm, but lets not forget that there is corruption everywhere. As any non-white Anglo-protestant can tell you the law is only as fair as the person enforcing it. I doubt millerns was the only person speeding on that road today. I don't doubt that he was selected because he was driving a nice car, that may or may not look/sound different than stock. Keep in mind that a Harley Davidson fresh off the showroom floor breaks the noise ordinance in Boulder.
Yes the internet is for the free exchange of ideas, and I value the information and opinions of people on this forum but lets not kick a guy when he's down.
AnthraciteA4, thanks for the post there are some really good points in here that kinda just made me laugh. I didn't know that about Harley's breaking the noise ordinance. And you're right, that is another reason I was pretty upset about it, because there were still cars passing me and going faster, I watched a big pick-up doing at least 80 no more than a half a mile before I got pulled over. But I was speeding in the area so I was technically breaking the law. It just kinda sucks that there are other people doing worse things than going truly just a little too fast that never suffer any repercussions, and I will see this reflected on my car insurance for quite some time probably. Thanks for the post though, very well thought out and stated, everything you said about Boulder seems to be pretty spot on and I can't disagree with too much as far as that goes. And that's interesting about the Valentine detectors being able to upgrade without replacing the whole unit, I wasn't aware of that, so thanks on that as well!

I apologize for the name calling. I just really cant stand it when people say "f**k the police" and like AnthraciteA4 said there is a lot of corrupt cops out there, but there is also good ones and I really appreciate what they do because they do have to deal with a lot of crap. after all they are risking their life too. with that said how did you manage to get a $300 ticket for just going 10 over? is Boulder county just that expensive to speed? last month I got a ticket for doing 42 on a 35 and the ticket was only $125 and 2 points. that was in Thornton.

No worries, I just haven't ever had any issues with the law and don't deal with police often, this is only my second speeding ticket ever, the first was when I first turned 16. And the police really do have to deal with a lot of shit, especially in this college towns so I do respect them for that, no doubt. I don't really know how the ticket was $300, I think he put on the ticket I was going 71, so it was just above the range of being between 5 - 10 and bumped it to 10 - 15 over, which is another reason it kinda irritated me, cuz that is a big jump in the fine and points. Luckily I was able to mail it in today for $125 and reduce it to 2 points. Kinda like Anthracite said though, maybe he didn't write it as 70 just because I was in an Audi and assumed I could pay a larger fine ** who knows lol, but it does suck. Speeding tickets are close to the easiest way to throw away your money. Unless you go to Vegas...but those stories stays there lol
Escort Passport 8500ix...same as a 9500ix but without the nifty GPS function. It has saved me plenty of speeding tickets but be forewarned, no matter what radar detector you have, if you speed regularly, you will get one sooner or later. Instant-on/ "POP" / "LASER" radar is going to get you regardless because it is an intermittent signal as opposed to X, K, Ka bands.
P.s. if you were going 70 in a 60 and got a $300 fine, take it to court and be respectful to the officer (who may or may not show up) and to the judge. It will likely get reduced.
Stuff I need:
| coilovers or sport shocks/struts | Black USP or S4door blades |
Here is the thing about forums. They are digital veils to our true selves. In some cases, they emphasize how we want to be, in others they hide who we are. But no matter how you present yourself, this is a public area, so note that you will have people come back and object/criticize/argue with you about something you say. Audizine is notoriously cop friendly, with quite a few police officers as members as well. When someone posts a thread bashing an officer doing their job, that person is in a for a world of critique.
Let me put it more elegantly. We are Audi owners and drivers. We hold ourselves above those around us as we drive a car we feel is superior. An Audi is a classy ride, and most members on here want to make sure everyone always looks at us as classy owners. Don't screw it up driving like an ass. If that's what you want, buy an R32.
Take it all with a grain of salt. Have fun, drive safe.
