I've spent the past hour reading exhaust threads and I don't think I am any closer to finding what might be the best bang for the buck, but also match up well for the performance. I am planning to do the stasis tune, but read about the droning from the stasis exhaust. Not sure if that is related to the auto only or also the manual. I am leaning towards the Stasis, Billy Boat or Magnaflow at this point. Of course I will need the dual valance for the Billy Boat or Stasis.
Love my STaSIS exhaust. No drone, awesome conservative growl (not annoyingly loud or raspy) and beautiful 3.5 inch double-walled tips w engraved STaSIS logo that fill valance cutouts perfectly. There are lots of great exhaust systems out there...do your homework and see whats best for your setup but trust me you wont regret.

It's a fine line between 'bang for the buck' and 'performance' especially since they both mean different things for different people.
I have read enough Stasis threads to stay far away from their exhaust. Magnaflow screams 'Chevy/Ford' to me - not refined enough IMO for a classy car such as ours. From what I've read and heard, if I were to do it again under a stricter budget, I'd probably go with the BB system.
I've done a lot of reading and almost as much research...I have a 6MT and am going back and forth between Billy Boat and APR. Main reason is they both guaranteed no drone. BB is a bit cheaper (they make APR's exhaust too I believe) and it comes with a downpipe so you could match it up with a test pipe/hfc of your choice. I am looking to do BB and a Eurocode HFC; only thing holding me back is the size of the tips for the BB exhaust. If I did APR, I would just do the single outlet though, so would save the heat shield, valance, and the other parts. Just my thoughts.

i was only thinking about the valance and didn't even think about the heat shield. i wonder what the complete package comes to for dual exit. i saw the neuspeed exhaust which is single exit and like the look of that one, but don't know about the sound.

I'm of the opposite train of thought - I prefer the dual sided outlet from an appearance perspective and would pay the small price premium to upgrade both the look (in my opinion) and sound of the car. I don't see exhaust as a performance upgrade - there just isn't much there for a cat-back relative to the cost.
The parts for dual conversion are available for about $80, plus a valence : about another $80 (stock 3.2 or Avant) for dual, so the difference is as little as $160 plus the difference between the dual vs single sided exhaust version. If you want quad, AWE or E-bay quad has a valence for ~$150, and of course carbon fiber, etc are more costly...

I like the dual outlet, but not a fan of quads on our car. That is why I would do single side if did APR. Think quads look good but, in my opinion, they are too much for a 2.0L. Know many will disagree, just my opinion.

My bad - didn't catch the APR reference... In APR's development thread, I seem to remember there were requests for dual sided/single tip config that never came to be.
FWIW, I agree with you - quads are a little much - dual sided/single outlet system is my preference, but that's worth about as much as the electrons it took to send this... :)

Ok...I checked out a ton and came down to AWE or APR. In the end I wanted quads for the look (my choice) and a nice rumble at low RPM with a solid note at WOT. For that reason, plus the fact that my Stage II Tune (SW + Downpipe) were APR, I chose the APR Quads + an AWE quad rear valence. I did have Achtuning do the entire install (minus the valence) and they also put in the additional parts I needed on the once empty side that included the heat shield, hanger, etc.
I think either APR or AWE are a safe bet and there are plenty of videos on their websites as well as on YouTube that you can check out to pick the one you like best.
As a note - if you don't want large tips, I believe AWE's are smaller than APRs a bit. My APRs did take some getting used to, but now I'm totally happy with them too.
Good luck!

AWE FTW!!!! Love mine. See my build thread and pic whoring thread for more. Love the sound. I've had people come up to me at work and ask me about it. It does start to get pretty loud over 80mph but I'm a gen1 system with their downpipe. It's still much quieter than my B7 system.

I have a 6MT and I have a dual Remus with the 2nd resonator removed. No drone and it sounds great. They just came out with a titanium system too which is awesome if you can afford it.

Borla makes a full cat-back system, including resonated downpipe. Single side dual tips, like stock, so no need to get new valance or muffler hanging hardware. Plus you can find it online for about $800.
As far as bang for the buck, it can't be beat as it replaces all stock piping after cat, whereas every other system, except stasis i believe mount after 1st resonator.
I have seriously considered buying this system, but my mods are on hold until I buy a house.

i would definitely be interested to see how the Borla sounds and if they have a quad tip version or dual sided. 800 is a pretty damn good deal but i would pay a little extra and get quad or dual sided

I am starting to lean towards the single exit with dual tips and these the options I have found. I am leaning towards the AWE with down pipe at this point.
Just FYI - AWE tells me this pricing on supremepowerparts site is the old pricing and that this is actually below vendor's cost, so it's highly doubtful that you can get them to honor that pricing...
Ok depends what you are looking for. I was in the same predicament . I did a lot of research, and not only am I a tiptronic, but also a wagon, so it's gonna be drone galore. Here was my breakdown from extensive research
APR- Actually, I think Corsa makes their stuff now. This will give you great gains and a good quad look, but it is very raspy (think of a G35 with resonators taken out). Very aggressive, sounds beastly, but not refined.
AWE- Very sporty and LOUD, also has a quad setup. However, it can drone. Also, some like it loud, others (like myself) don't.
Milltek- Has a great sound, very boomy, but has a little brrraappp noise on shifts. I liked this setup though, I would recommend it.
Remus- definitely sounds awesome... until you notice they are asking for 1400 without a downpipe.... so no real performance gains
All in all, I was looking for something that simply complimented my car without altering it too much. Let's face it, it's a wagon, and even though it has chops, I would like to be understated. So I went for the Billy Boat. It just adds more bass and burble, and it is VERY quiet otherwise (some would say too quiet or too close to stock). I also love my dual exhaust tips- didn't even need to change my valence!
I'd like to learn/hear more about the Milltek - see if it has any drone and if comes in a dual (not quad) setup. Borla sounds interesting just base on price, but kind of scares me it is that much cheaper...
^^^^ Is that the non-S Line Avant 3.2 rear valence? Can that bolt directly to the sedan?
That's the S-line 3.2 valence, don't think it fits a non s line bumper. I have one sitting in my house waiting to go on with a stasis exhaust, prolly won't install it until spring though.

The first thing I noticed when I upgraded was I had to cruise through neighborhoods at a higher RPM (2K instead of 1500) in order to prevent a loud sound.
I haven't really noticed any drone in daily driving through neighborhoods, county roads (50-65 MPH) or on the highway. The only time I experience any type of drone is if I'm in too low of a gear for the condition (too hi a gear for a hill). The price ($1,999.00) will scare you away if you're looking for a balance between price & performance.

That's correct, the s-line valences won't fit non s-line. The non s-line valence looks exactly like the non-sline avant valence (it's the same PN actually) - which is to say it's more or less the non s-line valence with slightly different holes on 2 sides - no honeycomb/etc.
Thanks! Looks good I think. Appreciate you sharing your experience/observations with it - guess could always pair it with a K04 so you have to run at higher RPMs ha.
Remus- definitely sounds awesome... until you notice they are asking for 1400 without a downpipe.... so no real performance gains
Thats not true at all. I definitely noticed the gains. While it could be due to the resonator being removed the gains were still noticeable with APR stage 1. Now with ARP stage 2 and the cat removed I still have no drone and the gains are awesome.

Eisenmann does make for the A4 2.0T. Sounds great and deep, but is loud and drones.
I have the Milltek quadtip and it sounds great. although the mufflers have a single exit and the exhaust tip that you clamp on converts it to a dual tip, it makes it a little sputter when the rev's drop back to idle. cruising and around town driving, the exhaust is very mellow and deep, no raspy sound at all. after it fully breaks in, i would say it is minimally louder than stock. i can have conversations in my car perfectly fine and passengers sometimes do not even realize i have an aftermarket exhaust. A plus side is the Milltek exhaust comes with a downpipe (the section that goes between the H-pipe and cat-back). Videos below.
If i were to do it again, i would get something a tiny bit louder and more aggressive. The SuperSprint exhaust that is available now sounds great. I would get my hands on that one.

I ordered mine from Stratmosphere along w/ the 90º Cat Spacer.
It arrived quickly, but Milltek needs to work on their packaging. The box is thin, so it's easily torn.
i ended up ordering the Neuspeed from Eurocode. I will try to install next weekend on the 18th since I need to to borrow some ramps from a friend. I went back and forth and decided to give the Neuspeed a shot especially since i didn't have to buy an extra down pipe. i would have loved the Milltek exhaust, but I couldn't justify the cost when I am also trying to do a tune soon.
