Someone on Vortex scanned in an old article on the RS6 from Autoweek so I thought I'd save them and post up here as well. I love reading these older articles. Enjoy.

saw a few for in the ny area for around $18K... thought of picking one up until I found out it's one of the most expensive audis to maintain. example, need to pull the motor to change the starter

there are roughly 650-700 left in the USA/Canada...a little over 800 sold here, in Europe..alot more.....as for $18k, I assume very hi mileage...Dion(drive autoworks) been looking as his was totalled due to floods last aug...there are not very many under $20k ones I have seen are usually salvaged titled. And they are expensive to maintain, but the engines are beasts

An RS6 is a very bad investment. If you get one enjoy it and drive it until the wheels fall out or you have to replace the o2 sensors (engine removal). It's funny how most repair procedures with the RS6 begin with "Remove Engine".

I really wonder if Audi purposely build the engine that way(you have to pull the engine out for every maintenance issue)???

Agreed, if I had the money I would buy one and learn how to "remove the engine."

Really? The way I see it there are more and more getting totaled. Sooner or later there will be a handful left.

    They only made around 8,000 C5 RS6's

    Ferrari made over 12,000 F430's

No car is worth much the first 7-10 years after its made.....I bet in 15-20 years the RS6, M5, E55 and S-Type R will be pretty rare cars.

Even though they make faster cars these days, in my eyes those 4 cars will always be the most badass sedans ever...

You're comparing an Audi to a Ferrari? Your also comparing a $200,000 sports car to a $80,000 sedan. That's funny.

Yes they will be rarer, but since we are discussing rarity refer to these other Audi models (all much rarer than the RS6).

The 1990-1994 Audi V8 was made in very small numbers and you can pick those up for scrap value all day long MSRP in 1992 54,000 ($83,000 in todays dollars), blue book now $4500.

The 1991 200 20v? Less than 900 made it's worth more in parts. 45,000 MSRP in 1991 ($71,000 in todays dollars). retail value now, ~3000
The 1990-1991 Audi coupe quattro, very few of these were made and you can pick them up for less than a grand.
The C4 S4/S6 cars are also getting to a point where the engine is worth more than the vehicle.

    The list goes on....

Face it guys the chances of any production Audi made in the past 20 years being worth Hemi cuda money is non existent. Too many were made, and they aren't a desirable collectors item.

The only Audi's I can possibly see appreciating in value over the next 20 years are the sport quattro or pristine examples of the quattro and those cars have some racing heritage with Group B

I was just making a point of saying you see more F430's on the street than you do RS6's

Its still a fairly new car, its not like its 40-50 years old. Its very possible in 30 years from now when there are only handful left in the states it could easily become a pretty valuable car.

I love how many still feel an engine pull is the ONLY way to maintain the car. I have had alot of modifications and maintainence work done on my RS6, every mechanic uses a transverse bar, remove trans..transverse bar, replace turbos, transverse bar, O2 etc, etc, etc....deaslerships use them, but love to charge for pull, especially if warranty is involved. Dion @ Drive autoworks, john at JA Autoworks do....parts are another story
