I was coasting and the car just died. I tried to start it up and it barely runs. Flooding out and clanking in the engine. Check engine light is on and scanner showed misfire of all 8 clyinders. Any Ideas? Car can not drive and barely idles.
May we be thankful for all we got and all our problems slide off like snot
I pulled the rear seat off where the fuel pump is and if I turn the key on and I hear the fuel pump hum a little does that eliminate a fuel pump issue?

Not really. It could still be very weak, but running. To eliminate the fuel pump you need to do a fuel pressure and fuel delivery rate tests. I dont have the specs for those tests handy though. Good Luck!
I have a pump so im just putting it in just to have a new one in there. Hopefully that will do the trick. The battery and alt checked out ok so if this isnt the problem on on to the CPS

Im just going to go ahead and chime in bro and im very sorry if this troubles you. Have a compression check done immediately, I wouldnt run the car but try to recall exactly what the sound coming from the engine was like. If it sounded almost like a rattle (hard to explain) you may have issues with a valve or valve spring especially if your car didnt have much chain rattle prior to this happening. My car did the exact same thing a few weeks ago and I checked everything youre checking fuel pump, coils, sparkplugs, cps, and altenator. If you still hear the fuel pump prime its obviously not dead and if its not humming pretty bad its probably a non issue. Again compression check is your best bet.
What is the mileage on your car and do you know if it is an early build? Also did you smell any fuel or get any smoke outve the exhaust? I am working with a lawyer to bring a case to AOA regarding failed engines so if this ends up being the case PM me. I hope its something minor man I really do I would hate to see you have to go through what I am going through right now.

Fuel pump didn't work out. Bummer. I hope it's not as bad as you say it might be. CPS has to be ordered so next week on that. Sunday I have a mobile mechanic friend come in a check out everything for me. Keeping my fingers crossed it nothing serious but thanks for the heads up Rob. I will chime back in after the weekend.

That's not a sure thing at all. Many engines will not run if the CKS goes bad. Those that have static cam gears usually will, but since ours has hydraulic adjusters for the sensed cams, that's not an option. Besides, CKS can fail on any car; I can't think of any that they're likely on, but few cars are perfectly immune. It's just a cheap Hall Effect sensor.

As far as servive I change the oil at 5000, New coils, plugs all oils changed last year. The car has run perfect since I bought it and all the way up until it just turned off

I cant believe the same thing that happened to me is now happening to you especially considering we have similar mileage cars. Where you plan on going from here? Once youre able to the cause of failure please let us know.
When mine died, it needed a new engine. The cause was an oil port for the timing chain was clogged and seized the timing chain. A design flaw by Audi. I hope yours is not as bad as mine. But I'm happy now I have a brand new engine.

Was it warrantied by Audi? Or did you have a 3rd party warranty? Or did you fork out the $22000.00 for a new one.

Had the car towed yesterday to the mechanic. They are tearing the the heads off to inspect. Definitely a right side bank failure. The compression test checked out fine on the lt bank but wasn't zero on the right. Everybody please enjoy your S4's. I would do anything to hear the sound of my exhaust and hold the gear shift in my hand again. Shitty thing is I just got he car back from the shop after being rear ended and had the car fixed and completely detailed. I also just installed a B7 center console and put on new tires. Like Leonardo I was on top of the world for a moment and now I'm sinking to the bottom of the Alantic.

It's the recent stories like this that break my heart.. and make me want to drive my car even less figuring the less I drive it the longer it will take a problem to happen.

NEWS FLASH! The right side cam bolt fell out. So far valves aren't bent and there doesn't appear to have any other kind of damage done. Putting in a new bolt and having the left side checked out to be sure it's tight. Keeping my fingers crossed thats all I need.

Damm how does that even happen WTF. Anyway hopefully you don't need an engine replacement. Good news ........ I guess

LOL! Exactly what my mechanic is saying. I can only say thank god I was only coasting when it fell out because in about 2 more blocks I was going to be redlining it!

They replaced the bolt that fell out and the engine is back to normal again. Thank God nothing was damaged! Just putting the front end back on and hopefully get it back today.

Weird to hear about these bolts working themselves out **** same thing is common with the intake manifold. I think VAG needs to update their torque specs or something.
