I've been a big fan of Audi's for a long time. I had a 2000 A4 back in the A4.org days! (I'm not even sure people will remember that far back, circa 1999).
Recently I decided that I wanted another Audi. My wife and I decided on a 2012 A4 Avant. Back in December we went to trade in our SUV for an A4 Avant at an Audi dealership in Burlington. They didn't have what we wanted so they said they'd do “a locate” and promised me (which they now deny they promised me) verbally that they'd find me a car by the end of December. A deal was agreed upon, deposit left. On the contract they wrote "based on December availability" or something to that affect, but assured me that they could get the car.
Fast forward to the second week of January 2012, no car. They said they'd offer me a car coming in towards the beginning of March. Then they said, please come in and we'll work on re-signing papers. Ok. I went in and they said, well, since you're going to keep driving your trade in and we can’t predict the value of your car in March it will probably be worth about a couple grand less when March rolls around.
Honestly, this upsets me. I typically buy new cars for my extended family 1 or 2 times a year. Even with my last car, I made a deal, involving a trade-in, the car got delayed 5 months! For 5 months, I drove my “traded in” car around and put miles on it. I went to trade the car in when my new car arrived with 3-4K extra miles on it 5 months after we had made the initial deal. No problems at all.
They now want to redo the deal because they failed to deliver what they promised when they promised? Even if the car comes in 3 months after the initial deal, I’ve never had a dealership make a deal, then come back and say they are changing the terms of the deal. Shame on me for signing something that said “based on December availability”!
Has anyone else had a similar experience? It's very frustrating to negotiate a deal, just to be told that I have to negotiate all over again while potentially costing me thousands of dollars! Am I being unreasonable?
Get your deposit back and go to another dealer. They didn't deliver on their end of the deal so that shouldn't be an issue. Going a little farther to another dealer is not that big of a deal.

Get your deposit back and go someplace else. audi of burlington just seems sketchy to me. i applied for a job there in the parts department when i moved back from california about 6 months ago. i go in for the interview and they seriously tryed to pull a fucking "bate and switch" maneuver on a JOB!! they were like "oh yea, well that jobs already taken but you can be a lot attendant!" fuck you. hows that sound you fat slob of a salesman? I drove an hour to get there for them to pull that bullshit. REALLY?
Myself and my father have had NOTHING but good things to say about Porche/Audi of Nashua. A bit of a drive but they are great up there. I personally dont have experience with sales but as far as service and parts they are fantastic. My father just baught a used porsche cayenne turbo and had a great experience.

audi of stratham is def a great place they take care of you there audi of burlington is a big rip off they wanted to charge me a $85 for a roller relay when i got it for $50 at stratham and cust service there is a+ compared to burlington its a drive but def worth it
depending on what is closer to you or where you would PREFER to buy...I'd suggest finding better service and deal somewhere else. I'd then pull the manage or owner aside from the burlington dealer and say "here's the deal........make me happy". And I'd state your case and explain the situation that has caused such a thread to begin. And if they cannot or will not make it right, then they just lost a good customer and some serious cash.

I have to say I've bought 2 cars now from Audi Burlington, and have had a great experience both times. I definitely agree that tobyson21's situation sucks, and I also think you should not only get your money back, but also talk to the sales manager as aaron1085 says and explain to him exactly why they're losing the sale. The only way to correct problems is when the people in charge hear reasonable negative feedback, and when it hits their bottom line.
We shall see. I'm going in this weekend to finalize the deal. We'll see how this goes!
If it doesn't work out, I'll have to take a drive to one of the other dealers suggested or just wait for a 2013. Maybe the new 328xi wagon?

I almost bought a car from them last year.. although the reason I didn't wasn't anything they did. I was looking for a CPO A4 and even put a deposit down on one there but found a better car at another local dealer. Called them up and explained.. no problems at all. They couldn't trade used cars and their response was "you should by the car you want" and they refunded my deposit no questions asked.
After I bought the other car I got a letter from their General Manager saying that even though I wasn't able to buy a car from them that they'd love to service it. Of course they'd want the money from service but it was new to me to get a letter like that.
Anyway I have no other exp since I haven't had to have the car serviced yet. My choice will probably be Stratham just because I plan on getting a couple of statis components and want to build a relationship there. That was actually the 1st dealer I visited but they didn't have what I was looking for either.
Unfortunately it didn't go well. The bottom line was from the time of the original deal to when I went in to finalize the deal, my car had aged 7 weeks and 1500 miles. According to them, that translated into ~2500 dollars of difference in the deal. The dealer then stated that I could get a rebate for trading in my Lexus for an Audi of 1000, so the real difference would be ~1500. This was later found to be not true, since the rebate doesn't apply to A4 Avants.
I have emails stating "if you keep your car under XX miles, we'll keep the same deal". I kept my car under the requested mileage and was told "that sales person had no authority to make that claim".
I requested my deposit back and left. I'll never go to that dealership again. I'd never recommend that dealership to anyone. I liked my sales guy, the last time I went in to finalize the deal he had "left his job to do something else", yet he was walking around the dealership?
Anyway, maybe if I can find the car I want I'll go buy it. I may wait for the 3 series wagon or go drive the X3 35. My father just got a 535 and I love that engine with the 8 speed transmission.
At any rate, thanks for the advice, I'll poke around at a few of the dealerships mentioned, but I'm not sure I'll be able to get the wagon I want now that they have stopped production. Oh well, perhaps I'll wait a year and get the All Road.
Thanks for the update. Food to know should I ever think of doing business with them.

What kind of wagon are you looking for? My dealer was able to locate and trade for an Avant with sports just last week (one of only a handful left in the region). Drop me a PM in you're interested and I'll send you the contact details of the sales guy and dealership I used.
