I don't get it? or did I miss something. Perfectly good Miata waiting for that swap in the background.
Remove Audi's 4.2TT making over 400hp for Chevy's NA 5.7 making 350hp
Any more videos of the car, maybe they have something in mind?
I think that miata already has the swap. He uploaded that Vid today. I think its kinda cool. I guess we will see what he does. Im assuming its RWD now. Drift RS6?

Coulda picked any 4.2 A6 for a swap like this. No need to ruin a car that only a few hundred where ever imported...
apparently the engine makes more TQ and HP stock than the 4.2TT audi engine. He found this car sans motor and it was being parted out
He is using an LS1, specifically, an LS1 from a GTO, which is rated at 350hp. Now, that being said, I read that 18page build thread.
Its clear why he did the swap. Yes, the RS6 was a shell, but he also CLEARLY has money to blow, time to spend, and resources to use. He did the swap right, spent lots of fabrication time and it came out looking very good. 4.2TT or LS1, that car is going to boogie. Especially if he starts to tweak that motor a bit.
(FYI, I ran a built NA GTO on the highway (in mexico of course) in my Cobra, and totally embarrassed that goat, jus sayin)
I love it! Thinking outside of the box a little. If you have the money and resources to do a swap like this, then why not. Make a ton more power with a million less headaches than the biturbo 4.2l. The stock rs6 is an amazing car, no doubt. But this car is an entirely different beast!!

I drive an Audi, it isn't in the shop to be repaired. It is in the shop to be maintained.
At least thats what I tell myself in order to keep a level head!
It is a good idea and good execution (both process and tick that one off the RS6 VIN list as dead).
I do see it as good for three reasons/things:
1. Drag racing - excellent way to shock the competition.
2. Drifting - yep the steering rack is gonna need some work.
3. Ease of parts for the motor - not to say that an RS6 motor is crap but then adding power might make all the other lovely goodies fail - control arms, fuel system, etc, etc etc...
Not sure that 01E is gonna stand up to the power/torque...
Hope that he gets things worked out...
IF anyone communicates with him, can you get me the VIN so I can note the progress/mods/etc? Thanks!
Listen to the sound it makes.... It sounds fracking horrible.... Like classic unrefined american crap.
But the unrefined american crap can be had for much cheaper with near the same levels of power. The money to put in a rebuilt RS6 motor or some other Audi swap would be huge in comparison to the LS1 he is using with much better reliability. Also, he could easily bump up the power even more if he liked (the trans may not hold it but that's another issue). Yes, it's a rare(ish) Audi but he essentially saved the body from the crusher to drive another day.
He is also doing this to cause a big RABBLE RABBLE in the Audi purist camp. It looks like he has succeeded.
if he managed to pull off the engine swap, I find it hard to believe that a manual transmission is not in the deck of cards down the road. he throws some headers, and a s/c on that thing.. wow.

The car has an o1e built by Scotty. The trans won't be an issue.
To those who didn't read the whole thread, the car is still awd, and now is a 6 speed.
This car belongs to one of our customers... We designed an adapter plate and flywheel to adapt the LS1 to an 01E six-speed transmission.
The car was purchased by him as a shell, and the LS1 was an affordable option for him - an Audi enthusiast with a strong mechanical background - to build a fast, reliable C5 RS6.
LSX motors have been pushing more power more reliably than any RS6 powerplants.
Because this isn't your neighbors 4.2 A6 with 250k smoking its way down the road. This was a rare RS6 which was only offered for 1 year in the USA with very very limited production (I'm sure you know this already)
This EXACT SAME swap could have been made to a regular 4.2 A6 and with a total of 4 new body pieces, it could have looked the same as well. Don't tell me the cost of an RS6 motor costs more than his entire swap. Speedtrapped picked up an RS6 motor for probably half what it costed this guy for his LS1+ adapters/labor.
Regardless, most of us think it was very well executed, just not something us C5 enthusiasts like seeing. These cars aren't exactly a dime a dozen like Miatas and 240SX's.

Very nice! I was responding to the people saying the trans wouldn't hold up. I too, am guilty of not reading that thread :(. Scotty Built gearboxes FTW!

with minor bolt ons this thing will shit all over a stock rs6. not to mention it will be infinitely more reliable, and that v8 rumble (unrefined american crap i believe someone called it) is just amazing. its not like he bought a minty RS6 and ripped out the motor to do this. The fact that it is a REAL RS6 with a V8 is way cooler than if he were to do it to a 4.2 A6. Id be willing to bet one of his major motivating factors was to get the audi purist nerds all sorts of pissed off. He is succeeding in all aspects if you ask me. I love it.
I'm the Audi nerd that called it American unrefined crap...
Honestly ask yourself "how rare is this car?"... Now ask your self... "if this was a 1967 GT 500, in the world of Auto enthusist do you think taking a shell of a ORIGINAL 67 fastback GT 500 would be an appropriate idea to drop a VW W8 in it???"
Its not that we don't all recognize the skill ability and out of the box thinking... The execution is quite interesting. Intriguing actually... Still its like watching someone set fire to the flag for me...

Rare is relative. Look at what you can get a used one for these days. I've got a 6 speed RS6. Even rarer, then and I'm still waiting for the $50k offers on it.

I personally, think that its a cool project but don't call it an RS6. What made it an RS6 is the 4.2TT that only a handful of C5's were lucky enough to have. This car is really no different than the regular 4.2 A6 with a 6speed swap but with more displacement.

Except that he has hinted at adding turbos in the future.
I still think this will be better than the original RS6. It has all of the upgraded brakes, suspension, body, etc that the RS6 came with but has the much better reliability of the LS motor and a 6 speed. If he does add the turbos then it will be more powerful as well.
Don't get me wrong though. I love the RS6 but I see so many people complain that they would never buy one because if anything goes wrong with the motor or trans it's big $$$$$$$. Why not have everything the RS6 has to offer with better reliability?

Steve, where I do agree with you, the price of these has dropped making them more accessible to more people. The production numbers still remain the same, which is less than 1500 total. Probably less than 1000 to speak of today.
I agree with A6Avant, consider if this was a rare Corvette, where there was only 1000 made, I bet the Corvette junkies would die if someone put a 1.8T in it.
Either way, its his car, his money, I'm sure he is going to enjoy the car and he will have fun with it. I just would have rather seen it with a nice built up Audi 4.2TT in it.

I have SERIOUS issues with people putting american motors into imports. I used to have a 240sx, and now that's all they do to those things, even overseas, people stateside have started exporting business that JUST export LS's overseas. In the 240's I was always in favor of Nissan motors into Nissan chassis' and the likewise for other manufacturers, granted the 2JZ is an amazing swap and can handle gobs of power stock, but I'm very anal and a bit of a purist I suppose, so I will never approve of any cross-breeding.
8520 said it best, hate the idea, but great execution. To each their own, but nothing beats the look on some d-bag's face when you smoke his V8 with half the cylinders and displacement, or in this case, the look on the average GTO or Camaro owners' face when they get pwned by some German engineering.
