I hear there's someone called haagie on navplus.us who's a guru at this kind of thing. Or if you're handy with a computer, try this: http://audiforum.us/threads/diy-conv...version.12109/

Haggies are way to expensive and the amount of work required to code it is not that much. That is after i was looking at those DIY's that people have done. Just have the right software and make the changes in the file reburn and put it in the unit and it becomes USA/Canada compatibile.

Hey multipherenic i am waiting to see how you do yours for the A4 and then after i can confirm that you can get the faceplate to work ill order another for my Audi A4.

there's the dynavin, chinese-company with some good results on the forums: http://www.dynavin.com/products/product_dnv_a4.php
    there's also a pioneer solution: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU...gation/AVIC-D3
search for either here and on audiforum.us

they are not much cheaper than the rns-e and, imo, they just don't look right once installed.

they do seem to have better functionality than the rns-e. personally, i'm a big fan of oem fit and finish..but others seem to be happy with them.

once i receive my unit and faceplate, i will be recording my install and conversion with my video camera..hopefully it'll be useful to people on here.

You're right. The plastic looks a bit lighter, and it doesn't sit flush. Still, for some the increase in functionality may be more important.

The dynavin fits in the B6/B7, not in the B5. I did find it cheaper than the RNS-E, because on top of the RNS-E you'd have to get all the bluetooth stuff if you don't have it already.

That doesn't look bad actually...How much was the Dynavin shipped to you and it has GPS/Bluetooth built in? Did you need any cables/adapters/etc to install it?

At the time there was a group buy and came with a GPS receiver. Had the adapter harness so no splicing of any cables were required.

    Paid the guy $626USD - don't recall the other $ for taxes/shipping.

The one thing I'll stress, it's NOT a perfect device - mine was a B revision head unit which fixed the buzzing sound over the speakers. If I'm using the phone over BT, I can't switch back to the NAV. The latest version of these units don't have this issue from what I've read.

Any close ups of the Dynavin unit installed? I searched but couldn't find anything that shows fit.

Mine's not completely pushed all the way in as I had some bad experience with the clips where it was a royal PITA to remove the headunit but when it's locked in, it sits in no differently than the OEM.

Quick update since a few people have been asking. Yes, you can convert a 2010 RNS-E (193 G in my case) from EU to US. I just finished the install yesterday but am still waiting on a faceplate to complete everything. I've written a quick DIY (some of the info on audiforum.us is old or missing some pieces here and there) but am waiting for the mods to approve it.

Any questions feel free to PM me. I have a conversion CD here if anyone wants to drop by and convert their unit. Should take about 15 minutes or so.

Installed the Navigation in the car and recoded it and now everything works like it did on the old nav.

    Has anyone successfully burned backups??

I have an .iso file that I torrented, and tried burning it, but my RNS-E doesnt recognize it?
Does the type of media matter? I used some random brand DL DVD -Rs

Also I have a mac, and since I switched from a PC 4 years ago, this is the first time I've burned anything...

I thought days of burning coasters are over...This reminds me of the days when I used to burn games for my PS1.

Type of media does matter. I have a bunch of coasters at home but I burned successfully using a Memorex DVD+R DL. I used Toast on a Mac and it worked. If that fails, you can always try Boot Camp with Imgburn. I know my old Macbook Pro (R.I.P. died after a tragic whiskey accident) couldn't burn properly but my Mac Mini worked fine. Something about the book type I think.
