Newcomer Advice

Hello all,

I'm new to the forums of Audizine, and will be soon of Germany as well. I've been a big VW fan for most of my life and love working with VAG and helping anyone else, whether its pulling a motor/swap to drinking beer and laughing with them when something slips up. Currently I'm in Korea right now, but soon I'll be off to Ramstein AB.

My questions for you are:

-Where are good areas to live... not around the base. Can deal with a 30min commute or so.

-Good place to buy a beater to get mobile quick

-Lastly, a good place to buy an Audi around town. My wife is interested in A3's, so we'll start there, but that's always changing. I'm currently in love with B7 Avants so that will be my future car.

Looking to meeting some of you on here and getting started with some projects.

I'm not in the military but welcome to the West Europe section.

I can't really answer your first question, but I had a German roommate in college that was from Mannheim and didn't say it was all that bad.

If you're looking for a second hand car, try www.mobile.de. They've got an English section for the website which is super handy. Its pretty much your cars.com for Germany. I've been looking at old E30 BMW's!!! Their reasonably priced compared to what they are in the US.

I think there are quite a few military folk in your area that can probably recommend a dealer. Just make sure you use your 19% VAT exemption form. Not sure if this applies to used cars though. You'll have to ask the guys at the AFB.
