Good morning fellow AZ'ers today I went to leave in the allroad. It was outside last night (28 ish degree's F) and I had the parking break on, parked up the driveway (slight incline). When I went to drive and took off the E-break the light would not turn off. I then went to drive and it started to flash and beep. I drove for about a mile at slow speeds (after attempting to turn it on and off and pulling the E-break on and off a few times). The light continued flashing for about 1.5 miles. Then it turned off. Any ideas? My break pad wear indicator is on btw (its been on for a week or so).

I hate when my breaks wear out, they are never long enough. On a side note i have no idea why your BRAKE light was flashing, never heard of that before. Just messing with you, i could not pass it up. Hope you find out what the issues was.
I'm not sure if it's a problem with Audi's but on my Corrado I had the e-brake cable freeze up and stick on in the winter time. Water had gotten into the sheath somehow and had become frozen. The fix was not use the e-brake until spring when I could replace the cables.
Also, I don't believe that the rear brake pads have wear sensors. Only the fronts.
I know the rears don't have sensors, those are only about 10k old any how. The (o) I know is the pad, that error has been on for a week or so. The "break" light was flashing, I am assuming it is just the line frozen or something as the fluid is good. I really hope it's not the ABS I'll run Vag on it. Thanks guys!

I had this problem, but the hand brake icon would stay on,
after checking my car, I was low of brake fluid, but during this I have learn much about this problem, I had to fix my rear calipers
the hand brake icon is connected to two sensor devices, one is brake light switch which is located where your brake pedal is and hand brake sensor located in the hand brake area linked to cables which connect to rear calipers,
if your pedal sensor is good, then it leads to hand brake sensor, I suspected that possibly your rear calipers or cables are slowly seizing, and slowly they return to disengaged position which is possibly why when you drive the hand brake icon on dash disappears.

Brake fluid reservoir level is low due to pads wearing out. As the fluid warms up from driving it expands and the fluid level rises to the minimum mark on your reservoir and the light goes out.
^ thanks guys great advice I didn't even think of the level fluctuation at different temps (that was stupid haha). I'm going to take care of the pad's this weekend, maybe rotors too. How many miles does one have typically after the sensor goes. I've driven about 300 miles.

I believe it all depends on the type of pads, the type of driver, and how your rotors are. The thing to do is visually inspect your pads, both inside and out to see exactly how much meat you have left on the pads when the light comes on.
Even so, replace them ASAP because they'll be more prone to cracking and fade now-even if they're still legal. And besides, you can get some good ceramic pads and rotors; it'll be like a new car :D
So while ordering the pad's and rotors I realized their are two options for pads. They have 4, and 8 pad per side design's. With out taking off my wheel just yet how do I know which type I have, or are the interchangeable? Sorry for the noob question but please help. Btw my car is a 04' allroad 2.7 tip.

This is the HP2 caliper, which has the 4 pads. Found on the 2.7T through 2001 (although a few 2002 2.7Ts came with them as well). My 2002 4.2 came with the HP2 calipers as well. They are a beast to find wheels to fit over them!
^ Looks good, so the HP2 are the brakes found on b5 S4's and such. I believe I don't have those on the allroad I know from the past I've looked at the calipers on my S4 and ar and there was a difference.

William91 any update on what fixed your issue? I am currently having the same problem. I have already changed my rear brake pads and it's still intermittently coming on.....TIA

What happens with the rear calipers is water gets in the parking BRAKE mechanism and freezes, locking the mechanism if the parking BRAKE is left on. After the calipers heat up the water melts and it's all good.
Also check your fluid, the low BRAKE fluid light uses the same indicator as the parking BRAKE.
does audi use a special brake fluid or can I just get some random brand to top it off?
Sorry man I didn't even look at this thread since my last post. I still haven't taken care of these issues. I bought the rotors and pads but haven't had them installed. My s4's rears went out and the calipers where shot so that was higher on the get it done list. Now the allroad is just waiting. On a side note, I installed a H-Sport rear sway bar on the ar and it handles much better. I haven't drove very much with the brake issues so no worries there.
