Look what I got. A8 content

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So the other night I registered on insurance auction and started browsing cars. Since I dont have special license I was not able to bid on everything I want, but I was able to score this. I always liked A8 and placed a bid on this one, did not even think about wining it. Next day I watched the live auction and another person was shy only of $100 to reach my set bid, so I have won this car. I should be receiving it next week.
It does not look like it needs a lot of repairs, It has 77000 miles now and was built in 2005, last service records from Audi dealership dated at 67000 miles. Water pump, timing belt and thermostat were done at 45k.
Not sure yet if I am going to keep it for a long time though, since I always liked A8 black on black with short wheel base, but I will probably still use it for some time just to get 80k car experience :)

That's a great price. A lot of auction cars don't come with a title, or keys, or other bits and pieces that can add up financially. Even taking that into account you should be able to bring this thing to life for well under $10k.

what the hell 7200? This thing could easily still go for 40k around here once nicely rebuilt...Great steal! If it were black on black, or at least had black interior i'd be seriously jealous

If it was black on black I would not even think about selling it :) But also, I watched some other auctions, black ones with some serious damage went for 10-12k

Nice find! What is your next move once you get it? Are you planning to do the repairs yourself, or have a shop set up? Is that normal for these A8's to have TB services at 45k miles?

These cars have problems with thermostat, it failed at 45k, so they changed TB and water pump while they were there. I will do as much as possible myself and have shop do the rest

Great price, man! I paid more for my B5 A4, but that was in 07. I personally would not even sell it after it is put back together and running. Was the auction place kind enough to tell you any history of the vehicle? For example, why it was on their lot and what the damage was caused by?

If you are talking about Copart, then you just register as public member, search for a car, then in search results select filter "no license required" . Or you can just find a car you like, find a local broker, pay $150 and get a car, which requires license to bid on. But be very very very careful, there is a lot of hidden junk in there. One local dude bought a Chrysler 300, which came with drivetrain missing. Basically if the seller is insurance company, then you have much less risk than if seller is a private shop. Many shops cover problems and sell cars on Copart, since you are buying as is

I ran autocheck and it says that car was in accident with a parked vehicle. If I try to find more details I will probably have to make a request from the state or police. Insurance company sold it after the accident. Thats all the info I have and Copart people know as much as I do, they are kinda like Ebay, just the place to sell cars.
Trust me, I watched other ones go for much more and was really surprised that I won it. I think mainly its because of the not popular color combo

nonsense! you're a legitimate dealer now, just as any business. you took a lot of risk getting that car, and will be putting $$$ and your time(which equals more $$$) to repair it. no matter what the price you got it for, you are able to sell it at its full market value, rightfully so. don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Received the car today. IT DRIVES, which really relieved my stress lol. Looks like it needs condenser and some other small stuff. I am thinking about making facelift, but it will cost me about 2-2.5k more, since I will need new hood, headlights, bumper, grill and misc hardware. Not sure if its worth it, since I still have not decided if I am going to keep it or sell.

Do all the engine work first, see how much you could get for it. Then see how much it would cost to do the facelift and if it would even gain you anymore money if the plan is to sell.

I think a full respray would be a better alternative to the facelift conversion. Or better yet, choose a very unique OEM color that is hardly ever seen. Just my .02.

He's right, but a buddy of mine got an A8 for 6k a few years ago from auction, spent 4-5k to get it back on the road and ended up selling it for a few k profit. Took a while to sell though.

    Awesome car. Great price.

I dont see the problem with the color combo. That would be a great color for a family car / DD. should hide dirt and dings nicely. (not that i wouldn't park it in the back but life happens)

Good move. Ebay has a couple in the $350 range before shipping (if you are local to any, then it saves on cost). Not the best prices, but def not the worst.

Since you're going to put time and $ in the car, the purchased price really makes no difference, its all about what you have when you sell it. It's all about market price.

Its laughable when a prospective buyer wants an owner to share his/her good fortune with them by providing a lower than market price for a car.
