brakes for HPDE and daily driving on A4
cross post: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...d-towards-HPDE
It's time to upgrade the stock 2007 A4 brakes. I've done a few HPDE events and just about discolored and worked the stock calipers pretty good. Mainly due to adding r-comps and carbotech pads on the last event. (don't think the OEM stuff liked that heat transfer).
SO....... My ultimate goal to save a few bucks, is to use the stock 17" wheels (as I have my r-comps mounted on them now) but I require the meanest brakes I can get within reason. BUT...... please keep in mind, I live in New England. Wouldn't mind swapping pads/rotors between track days, but would like to use the calipers during the winter time as well. I'm no braking expert, so I don't know if thats a moot point or not, just saying...
Please suggest prices/vendors/set ups. pictures if possible.
this was mentioned: leaning towards it...
"Look at JH Motorsport Cayenne BBK the 330 should clear 17 inch wheels nad its a little cheaper than the stoptech kit. And its pretty easy to swap out pads Ive heard.

I can't speak to the Stoptech ST40 kit on the track yet, as I purchased just a month or 2 ago and it's sitting in my garage. I got it for $1400 brand new, so couldn't pass. 332mm rotors that fit under 17's, which I like. I expect it to be significantly better than stock brake setup largely due to the larger, 2-piece rotors dissipating heat more effectively. I'll hopefully have a review of them for on track performance in May
I think there is an Alcon setup for sale now in the classifieds - fantastic setup there!!

ive been eyeing a 328mm Alcon set up...they sell a 328 and then like a 350 i think....hmmmmm... As I said I want it to fit with 17" - think they are as good/better than the 332mm Stoptech kit?

Can't speak from experience, but Alcon recieves high praise from what I've seen. one thing to keep in mind is pad selection - the Stoptech ST40 (and I think ST60) offer a wide range of pad choices for relatively low cost. That was something I took into consideration when making my choice. Pricing too. But Alcon, from everything I've read, is excellent.
Can't wait to get back on the track with my Stoptech setup though and give that a review!!

Very nice - good choice. You buy the used Alcon kit from the guy on the forums? It looked nice... Any plans for 2012 track days yet? I have every intention of doing the Audi club Lime Rock Park event again in May...

No, I bought from online vendor out in CA. Got a great end of the year pricing and with the suspension/BBK package, I pulled the trigger. YIKES! I want to do as many as I can. Shooting for 4-5 this season. I did 3 last year. I love Loudon up in NH, where else do you track? I've never been to Limerock.
