Out of the ashes, rises a white unicorn...
I'm sure most of you are aware of the untimely death of my previous avant. If not, see here: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...4852-RIP-Avant
But as they say, every cloud has a silver lining. Or in this case, an Ibis White one. Flew out to Denver Friday morning, and 1200 miles later it's sitting in my garage. 2008 Ibis Ti 6MT. Car drives exceptionally well, and pulls really hard - makes me think it might be chipped (now to attempt to confirm that). Overall, I couldn't be happier.
Hit a pretty good snowstorm in Wyoming. Had to stop for the night:
Made a short pit stop in Utah the next morning:
And finally back in Oregon, just an hour or so from home:
Sitting comfortably in the garage:
That lasted an hour or two before it was time to wash off 1200 miles worth of grime.
Before:
After:
After all of that, I had to get that damn dealer sticker off, as well as debadge. And so:
Finally, I made the normal Vag Com tweaks, and called it a night. So all in all, it was a pretty good weekend.
Cheers

Sweeeeet! Congrats to you and Rabbit. I know you guys are going to be so happy to have your car back.
Funny, because you may have passed the new owner in my old B6 as you were driving home. He's over in the general Utah/Wyoming/Colorado area enjoying quattro!

Finding, then getting, the white Avant helped a lot with losing the old one.

Coilovers will be the next/first big mod. After xmas. Between now and then will probably do LED interior & license bulbs. It needs a thorough detail too. I didn't bother doing more than a quick wash yesterday as it's supposed to rain for the foreseeable future (and already started).

For as many as I see on here I'm almost starting to think they're not as unicorn-y as we're made to believe. Not sure on the tint - it was on the car when I bought it. Honestly it's a touch dark for my taste, but not so much that I'm motivated to do anything about it. If I had to guess I'd say it's between 20%-35%. Probably closer to 20%. I'm more of a 35%-50% guy myself.

Heard there were predictions for 100 inches of snow up at Baker. You guys should be in for a ton of rain...and some snow, for sure!

Yup. I think the news last night said up to 5" of rain here in the city by mid week.

Crappy windshield wipers were what got us. The car was awesome.

Thank you. Not sure on the tint. Somewhere between 20-35%, but I'm thinking a little closer to 20%. A little darker than I would get if I were to put it on, but not so much to where I'd remove it.

^ This. Even with the all seasons (conti extreme contact), the car was extremely sure footed. You pretty much had to try to lose traction and that was driving on about 3-4" of packed snow on the roads (all the plows were going the other direction). However the wipers blades were total shit and our visibility was almost nil, so we stopped as soon as we hit a town where we could stay (there is a lot of nothingness in southern Wyoming, and it was far too cold to sleep in the car. about 23°F at that point). After we found a hotel, we ordered a pizza and I went on a quick beer run - then did a couple donuts in the hotel parking lot on the way back.

Beautiful, how miles on it?

After driving it home - 72,500. A little high, but the car was well taken care of and it shows. I'd rather have clean higher mileage car, than a low mileage one that was neglected/beat on. On top of that, we don't drive that much, so it should last a long time.

Bright is an understatement. Coming from Dolphin Grey, it's still it's taking some getting used to - but in a good way. Luckily we probably won't see the sun much between now and around March/April.

This has been my experience as well, earlier this year we had about 8" of snow and I was driving home. The car on all seasons handled like a champ, I think I lost traction once and that was probably more so me giving it too much gas than anything else. The wipers were bad though, snow packing up at the bottom of the windshield, and melting, then freezing into ice did not help. I still need to adjust my drivers side wiper a littler from that.
Glad to see you have a new Avant, and 6MT :)

The all seasons we had on the last Avant were terrible in the snow - Dunlop Sport Signatures. I think they really were closer to a summer time, and did great in dry/wet. We went up to Mt St Helens around this time last year and were surprised to find some snow on the roads. We were slipping all over the place. Same thing on a day trip up to Yakima last year. The contis handle much closer to my Hankook winters. We had the exact same issue with the wipers. Aggravated by the fact that even with liquid water they weren't wiping the windshield clean. So we had big streaks of ice crusted on there.

Thanks. And yes, the 6MT is a huge upgrade. I'm honestly shocked at how differently it drives from the tip (besides the obvious). Guess I didn't realize just how sluggish it was with the old trans.
