I replaced my alarm horn with a newer one that is battery acid free!

It's super convenient that you need to completely disassemble the interior to get at it! Although I suppose that would deter a criminal from trying to disable it.

I don't think so. They're allen hex head, and were dark grey. But after rain, they're rust.

Will do. Thanks. Wasn't sure if it's something I'd need to order online because it's too specific, or if I'd have to cut/trim down to length, such as with a dremel using cutting disc and then grinding bit or something.

Every American rental car I've had, it freezes me into an ice-cube after only 1 minute of low-fan.

    Looks good.
I heard of this mod but have never seen it tried. I guess now it's confirmed that it works. I'll assume this is a used OE part. Not sure if it's metal or plastic.
For example, one pulled off an actual A8 in-person, versus something marketed/labeled as "A8" from China on eBay, which also takes a month shipping.

Sort of like how you can find 'Window Switch' "for Audi", but it's aftermarket flimsy plastic.

I wonder if duct tapes vary in strength. For example, I've heard of 'Race Tape', maybe kept on-hand for race car teams - maybe it's stickier and withstands high speed?
Shouldn't matter in this case though. It should last.

I just remember the horizontal strip on my door when I changed the broken regulator.
After ten years, it dried up and fell off.

Nah lol. I'm going to take all the parts from the white sedan and put them on the atlas avant. The white sedan will go to the kids in a 1.8T manual mode.

now that you have all the parts its pretty much pull the engine, run return line(assuming its not an 02), drop your engine in. No need to make exhaust parts and you have the wiring done. but if you need the help let me know.

Yeah, Ill have to convert it to return system, which just means stealing more parts from the sedan. I guess the part I dont know is the auto to manual swap and 1.8t to 3.0 on the body harness side and if there are any differences. The avant is a 2005.

The rest is really plug and play.

Random question. But where is the small black connector on the side window above the sub enclosure connected to? Anything? My b7 avant has bad radio reception and I saw my plug was just dangling connected to nothing. Been bugging the hell out of me...

Mine is non-bose, I wonder if non-Bose only had one connected from the factory?

I'm pretty sure the wire connected to the window is the defrost, not the antenna. Mine is connected to a clip that is buried under the foam insulation.

Check to see if your antenna wire is connected properly. Mine was loose and fell off. If it's an Avant you can pull the trunk interior light and the antenna is visible in the opening.

That's just it, mine is connected to nothing. And there are zero connectors in sight it could be connected to. Could be a b7 thing? Mines a 2008 with the revised diversity antenna layout that causes issues for Symphony 2+ and RNS-E swaps. (Came with a S2+ standard that I upgraded to an RNS-E). My radio reception was awful even with the stock stereo.

And those thin black wires seem very small gauge to be defrost. I was under the impression defrost was only the hatch glass? And yea I'm an avant. It's not a huge deal but your picture perfectly depicts the connector in question m, hence my comment.

Anyway I figured I'd ask as nobody in the b7 section had a clue what I was talking about.

Could the wires on the glass be a glass break sensor for the alarm? I know that in looking in the VCDS config for Module 46, there is a glass break sensor option for Avant rear glass.

If the avant D-pillar is 100lbs, maybe it will help offset the front-heavy drivetrain so that it handles better. Not sure if it'll be that big of a difference. Because that didn't stop Audi from using those drivetrains (and bigger) in avants anyway, such as RS6 which is avant-only for C7.

The rest is really plug and play.
Speaking of fueling, I heard return is better than returnless; wonder if it's worth converting just for the sake of that, even on a stock 1.8T.

Mine is non-bose, I wonder if non-Bose only had one connected from the factory?
Is that this thing, that people "fix" on the sedan with binder office clips, to increase keyfob range?

Or would it be the roof shark/dolphin-fin antenna?

I've heard it's possible for Audis to have interior motion sensors. Wouldn't there be a button/switch on the door for that? I'm not sure if we have that.
But you are suggesting there may be something.

He basically took the chrome ring off a D3 A8/S8 and installed it on his own light switch.
Yep, thats pretty much it. I havent seen Chinese replicas of these yet Spike. So your are going to have to buy a used OEM part. I found mine for 15 bucks shipped in pretty much mint condition, so I was happy to pull the trigger and try it out.

The D3 knob is actually larger than the outer ring, so you'll have to destroy it to get the ring off. No big deal but something to think about.

I also want to try the window switch upgrade, but fear of the cheap replicas wont be up to my standard...

Ok, I looked at a whole bunch of posts and apparently it's not a heater.....some threads say it's the glass breakage sensor, and some threads say that it's the antenna.....so now I'm totally confused. But if it is antenna that may explain radio reception issues.

I removed my tint last summer and I've since had a glass breakage code, so I'm thinking that some of the lines got damaged when I removed the tint and that caused the sensor to trigger?? So if it is the glass breakage sensor then that explains my issue, but not the radio reception issues.

What did you do to your B6 today?

If you have an upgraded radio (S2+ or RNS-E) then you can't fix the reception issue. Though in my anecdotal experience my RNS-E had much better reception in both my b6 and my b7 than the S2+. Or at the very least it was just a lot smarter about switching to the antenna with the best reception. In both my cars, with the s2+ I got good reception in FM3 but FM2 and FM1 were awful. The antenna module on the drivers side rear (in the avant) has each antenna broken out on a few different wires.

I've not had the motivation to really figure this out though. I rarely listen to radio so I'm not really interested in tearing into the headliner just to solve an issue that doesn't really bother me much. I just get annoyed at the connector hanging there all lonely and unloved.

I remember reading something once that the glas sbreak sensors are embedded on the bottom of the glass and measure the resistance across the glass or something. I'm not sure those wires are them but they could be? Mine throw no codes and are connected to nothing so I don't think that's what they're for.

[QUOTE=imnuts;12374067]Coded it to Canada for DRLs[/QUOTE

If you code to ROTW and do the mod in the switch itself where you cover a pin and connect the covered pin to the one beside it.....You will have complete control over your lights. DRL fogs on or off. You can also go total blackout if you please. All controled via the headlight switch.

PM me and I can find the correct info...If you are interested.

It's temporary, but I like it better than the 034 unit. Only because I was able to get an additional bung welded in from CTS. I currently run a 1/8th NPT adapter in the extra bung and an EGT sensor occupies it. The sensor is connected to my VFIZ controller.
