Chris mind sending me a PM with how you got the 034 coil shield to work with the fsi coils? Assuming you're running fsi coils. I bought an FSi coil harness conduit but I have the 034 shield in my basement somewhere.

Btw really jealous of the 7163 you got coming, I assume you're going .80A/R?

Have to talk to Arnold about that. It would be externally gated undivided exhaust side. If memory serves I think it's .85 A/R.
I didn't do any modification to the heat shield. They're 2.0 FSI coils.

What did you do to your B6 today?

Made an hybrit klimabetaetigung* using a B7 faceplate on my oem B6 unit.

    What the faceplate looked like:

What the B6 unit looks like with the B7 faceplate on it:

Something amazing is I can now lower my temperature to 16c without having "Low" kicking in. The other B6 unit I had would have "low" kicking in as soon has I went below 18c. Never found how to code it via vagcom.

Looks great. Interesting to hear about going to 16*C without it kicking down to the Low setting... was this just from changing the faceplate?

Yes its programmed in the unit. So since I put back the oem unit it went back to normal.

The other b6 unit I had on it temporarly (for a year) kicked in below 18c, very annoying in summer.

Never found out to code it via vagcom.

I'm looking to do the same because of peeling buttons as well. So, a B7 climate control is not plug and play w/ B6? Or did you opted to swap just the B7 faceplate onto the B6 unit to not have it go into low setting? If so, what is the advantage of that? Looks good!

To use a B7 climate control you need to add a relay. I chose to put back my oem B6 unit with a B7 faceplate.

When it goes to low is programmed into the unit, my original was programmed "better"

What did you do to your B6 today?

I put a b7 unit into my b6 for some reason, I canít recall why right now, but I had to wire in a power relay for the rear defrost. Otherwise it was plug and play.

Edit: oh yea it was because I was retrofitting heated seats so I needed the seat heater dials and the b7 unit was in perfect condition and half the price of most of the ones I was seeing on eBay. Also it was from an RS4 so it totes added like 30hp.

Not all today, but since last saturday, sold this unit:

And these guys picked up my B7 the following sunday, and tried replace the oil pump before a 2 hour drive:

Same day sunday, picked up this 2003 1.8 CVT as the new winter beater... I know I know, but I couldnt pass it up for 850cad/680us bucks. Came with a stack of dealer receipts since day one and is really clean:

Then finally cleared the garage of a few things during the week:

Loaded up on some parts along the way:

Did a wheel bearing and oil change on the 3.0 this Friday after work:

And treated the newly acquired 1.8t to some needed maintenance yesterday and today. Heater core, b7 center console, B6 S4 wheel, cleaned up the battery area, fuel/air/cabin filter, bulbs replaced, fixed the rear heat shields, cleaned the inside and attempted a safety:

Just need to get a hold of a lower front control arm for safety, then the winter beater is ready to go.

Started on replacing my downpipe that was leaking at the flex joint. Figured it wouldn't take me too long but this job is an absolute nightmare on an automatic 1.8t. I think I will end up taking the half shaft out so I have some room to bolt the downpipe back onto the cat.

    Installed a phenolic spacer...

    TB - Before...

    TB - After...

Also proceeded to break my dipstick tube and crumble part of the bottom trying to remove it - borrowed one from my GLI.

PCV elbow crumbled and snapped... McGyvered one from random spare parts.

Suction Jet Pump came completely apart. The one from my GLI was questionable so I ended up using a one-way-valve I had on hand... throttle body turned out alright

The one I just installed in the A4 is SEM... prices are in CAD which is nice. Only downside to this on the A4 is that one of the mounting points for the engine cover is based on the intake manifold position... so only two out of the three attachment nuts are in operation ATM. I do have an 034 transition spacer in my GLI as well.

    Pretty easy.

Remove the 4 x T15 from the back of the unit. Using a couple jewlerer scredrivers lift the tabs while pulling on the faceplate.

    Once removed undo the harness.

Take out the 8-10 T15 securing the faceplate board, using longnoses pull out the heating control dowels.

    Remove the faceplate board.

Put back together using the B6 parts (rear cover, main board and the faceplate board) and B7 faceplate.

    what about
    the occupancy sensors
    and airbags, bladders
    and stuff

    The Technicals

    no problems? no codes?

they just bolt right in and plug in?
B8's are getting older now. They get crashed. Seat availability will rise. So maybe this will be seen done more often now.
Unless B8 A4'ers get to them first.

I guess then there is left alternative option of 8P A3 seats. Which don't look bad.

Even if negotiating a good price, I just hope everything works right and there are no bad surprises later, like a side airbag not working.
Can't tell if these have it or not, or if a car even needs it.
B6 side seat airbag, is easy to see. There's a plastic cover.
Unless these are hidden behind leather, and meant to tear and burst through?

what if there is more to it,
than just bolting the rail on.
(no offense. This is impressive. Thanks for sharing. First time I've seen it done.)

    no problems? no codes?

they just bolt right in and plug in?
My car was never equiped with seat and seatbelt sensors. As of now, power and airbags are working. At least tjere is no airbag warning light, so i assume so.

This sounds nice. No annoying seatbelt chime. Unless what if you DO have a seatbelt sensor (if such a thing exists), but stock European coding is No Chime?
Europe also gets safety switch "delete" stock,
so you can start up the car without having to press the clutch pedal in every time...

I think B7 has a button on the center console top, Airbag Sensor
to turn off passenger airbag, if nobody is in the seat
maybe to preserve the dashboard so you don't need to replace it, if there is a crash while you drive alone?
installing a used steering wheel airbag would be cheap, $50, and I hear the module can handle 3-5 re-codes before calls replacement.
And nobody is crashing 5 times in the same spot and repairing it over and over again.

I guess if there was an airbag DTC stored in the car, that it would trigger a red Airbag warning light on the cluster, to let you know the whole system is disabled until you scan to figure out the cause and fix it.

Maybe I'm asking too many questions.
    I'll go read your thread.

Speaking of Norwegian winters, I wonder if it's possible to also retrofit heated steering wheel, and if any newer style MFSW had that option. With a matching control module or something, maybe powered from battery. Not sure if that requires more powerful alternator.
Seems like something that might come on higher price luxury models, like A8, especially in known snow areas, like Canada and Europe.

I think the chime is something you can recode with a Vagcom, and i have no clutch safety switch either.

ok nevermind that's right I remember
I think I turned off seatbelt chime in coding

but could not disable door open chime.
because the DIY for it was for B7 S4 color cluster. Not B6 red cluster.
And it required setting the cluster to Germany with VAGCOM, and then later changing it by hand, back to US.
So the car is German coding (no door chime), but then you return the cluster back to US (for MPG instead of km/L) by pressing buttons on the side stalk, through the menu.

could not figure out if it's possible though.
maybe it will work on yours. If you want to disable Door Open Chime, so that the car doesn't keep yelling every time the door opens.
