Funny thing about my heated seats

Ever since I picked her up 3 weeks ago I can't understand why any time I turn my heated seats on it also turns on other stuff like defrost with A/C. After I adjust my seats I always find mysef turning off defrost .. Was this maybe a setting the previous owner set because I have gone into the menu and found nothing..

    It's driving me nuts lol

    Thanks

As far as I know, this is how they function normally. They do the same in my car. I read for 2013 refresh, heated seats get their own control separate from HVAC, so hopefully wont have the same issue. Whats more annoying for me, is that they don't auto shut off when the car is off. My BMW used to save settings, so if you ran into a store for 10 mins, when you restarted the car, heated seats come back at same level. But next day when you start the car, heated seats are off. In my A4, the seats are always at same level when car was last turned off, even passenger seat comes on if no one sitting in it, or car hasn't been driven in days.

I do like the 6 stage heat though, most others are 2 or 3. I think all VAG group cars have the 6.

Ya wife always uses heated seats and every time I get in to drive they are still on. Also, can't stand the function of everything else in hvac comes on with them.

It's a small fail that these systems are not independent. Even my b5 a4 had this solved (as well as every bmw & porsche). Sometimes you want to put on the heated seat for a bit with no HVAC. Another even smaller fail is that 1-3 in seat heating seem to do nothing, so I have to default to 4. The lowest setting of the 2-stage porsche and 3-stage bmw are about perfect for me, this was around 2 out of 6 in the b5 a4.

Do I care about my buns too much?

Hey, I would never have asked for this option. Now that it's offered and almost everyone has it, I get to nitpick.

We use the heated seats and have never had the A/C affected by them. The car's a MY2010.

thanks for the responce scottyuk and makes me wonder even more now

it just makes no logic to me that when all the controls are set to off and i try to activate my heated seats it turns on the fan and defrost.

It is definitely an inconvenience, albeit a minor one. I am just happy to see that the HVAC has an off button. My previous BMW was lacking this and required to push the fan speed down button until system turns off. If you hit it one too many times, system comes back on at lowest setting.

As far as scotty, maybe euro-spec cars are different in their programming? Maybe a future Vagcom mod?

Any Canadians care to chime in on whether their heated seats are tied to the HVAC?

Just to be clear. With your car running, and with the HVAC system completely off, when you push the button for heated seats, the HVAC fan does not come on also?

What I have found is that if you have your HVAC "off" and you touch the heated seat button, it all comes back on the way it was previously.
Essentially turns the whole process back on. I have found you can turn it back "off" and the heated seat(s) remain on though.

Yes, that is how it works in US spec cars, and what the OP and myself were complaining about. Two guys from Europe commented that turning on their heated seats does not affect their HVAC system. I was trying to confirm this, as maybe an adjustment could be made in Vag-Com to "unlink" the heated seats and HVAC system.

I never turn my HVAC off.

Are you just saying pressing a button on the HVAC module (which the seat buttons are mounted on) turns the HVAC module on ?

my least favorite thing is my windows tend to fog up this time of year... I hate how it doesn't remember your AC level.... so if i have defrost on.. turned down to level 1.... when i cut off the car, cut the car back on it goes to full blast... can't tell you how bad that gets on my nerves to have to turn that down every single freaking time... defrost is the only thing that does that... wish that was a vagcom fix...

I have noticed as well when the wife cuts on her heated seats, it also cuts the air on & i have to turn it off... i agree it's super annoying..
