Day after i get the new ride i'll have to do a 300 mile round trip on the NYS thruway. Would it be best to accelerate slow and not go over 80?? Any input would help
Since the speed limit on the thruway is 65, then yes, don't go over 80, the troopers are a$$e$$ and you don't want a ticket on day one.
Other than that, drive the car like you plan to drive it for it's life.
Also, do a search on "breakin" in the title in the B8 forum, and you will find plenty of advise.

Thanks man felt like a noob and forgot about the search option. Found great info, gonna go high and low revs for the first 60-100 miles with variable speed every 2-5 misn 60-75. Then on the ride home i should be good
I just picked up mine pre owned with just under 40k on the clock.. So who knows how the previous owner broke this one in haha
Mine was clocking in at 250 miles when i picked it up. The manager drove it and told me not to baby it and he took care of breaking it in. Had to get it from Jersey and i've worked with this dealership before.

Picked my 2012 B8 avant up in Boston and drove it to Hartford, CT and then Rochester, NY that night. No cruise control. No RPMS past 4k and no steady state RPMs...always varied the speed and never broke 80(more law than anything). I WOULD find a spot where I could slow to about 25 (with no cars around) and build the revs with moderate accelerating to about 4k and then let the engine break itself (just idle down on its own) back to 40ish (35 if there was spacing of cars coming up behind me) and do it again whenever I could 2-3 times per hour during my trip. Simulating moderate dyno pulls. Followed the manual for the miles thresholds and haven't had my motor use a DROP of oil to date and I have over 12k miles on it. I think it is a mix of following the manual and making sure you drive moderately enough to get the rings broken in correctly. Personally have done long trips after picking up the last two vehicles I have ordered and had good luck.
