in the main model discussion... Is it bad I feel
That way???!?!? I understand that a large consumer market drives advancement for the aftermarket development for our model... But I usually dedicate a few hours a day sifting through threads and helping members out, yet lately it seems there's a ton of new members with a ton of simple searchable issues, posting crap threads.
It prob wouldn't be so bad if new members were required to really read the new member guide, and had to have their threads approved before posting, or at least an automated search function that qued similar words in their titles and suggested already made threads.
I know that sounds harsh, but I'm tired of "I know i know, search. But I have already and found all twenty threads on p0171 codes but mine is different I swear.... Has anyone figured out how to diagnose if it is the lpfp?!?"
I'm probably guilty of that from time to time being a new member. I also feel your pain too. I'm a senior nco in the military and that's one of the things that I tell the new guys, "what's the book say?" Do the research. Sometimes it just too easy or tempting to create a thread and ask. Next time, I'll take another look in the forums.
I agree, but honestly since I joined its been the same. I only post threads which are unique problem sets or cool shit I see or would like to share. This is the 10th plus time I have heard your same argument, just worded a bit differently from other threads. I think it would be fairly difficult to manage all the new users, and Im sure the way it is now is already a boiled down soultion form our AZ team after years of development. I will agree on the MUST READ new members guide before being allowed to post though, that would be pretty cool.
I think one of the main reasons is that people get thread happy because when they read an issue they think that their issue isnt exactly whats described or that its unique. I have felt that way before, but then I looked outside of audizine on vortex and other audiforums, so I think they are putting a minimal amount of effort in the search then giving up to quick. I started a thread looking for a part number because I looked high and low and couldnt find the damn thing, and the one I started about fueling issues I was ready to get flamed on it because it was "another boost issue" thread. But after all that I def do agree with you especially when there are new threads about pcvs, and what not that I know there are threads out there because I have found them.
But I second audi-509, AMEN.

I see what you mean, I've only been on here for 10 months and am sure I've posted at least one that could've been searched. I made a spring thread early on about eibachs and konis which has been talked about countless times but sometimes its just nice to hear people's thoughts right before you make that kind of investment (If that makes sense).
I agree that you should definetely read the guide as a new member though. It really is easy to read through and helpful.

It does seem more crowded. But sometimes it is truly tough to pinpoint an issue, and that is the only time I would ever create a thread looking for info.

I told a newb to search when he posted some shit about vmr's or cam follower, something that's been discussed by all of us extensively, and then I GOT FLAMED FOR BEING AN ASSHOLE???

I'm pretty new on here too, and that's how I've tried to keep threads I started. Just when I want peoples opinion on something. Hopefully I've done ok so far since no one has bitched at me to search yet
not trying to start an argument, but if someone is going to go through the trouble to comment "Just search" on someones post, then you might as well just answer their simple question so the thread will die rather than having a day long argument which keeps the pointless thread at the top of the list.

It's always been like that and it always will be. Honestly, if you'd been around before you were even here, it was VERY bad.

At least it's not like Vortex where every douche with a Vag-Com thinks they're an expert. There's a much better atmosphere on the zine for help, I've noticed that quite a bit

its very true that people on this forum are very forgiving, and kind, and while we can sometimes troll a thread or have a little fun, we are very rarely truly mean to people. It's the reason I LOVE this forum, and its the reason I'm still here, and the reason I plan on owning an Audi again. This place is an awesome community. People who are new to cars will always exist, I'm not complaining about their existence, its something you deal with on every forum. It's nice too on here to see progress these members can make. Not to pick on you Shane, but when DRAKLORE first came in, he made a bit of a fool of himself (his thread was posted across several forums mostly cause of his grill :P). Anyway, most new members around here now know Shane as a VERY helpful member, and he's considered a knowledgeable member himself on the forum. It's nice to see people are given the chance to make that change for themselves on here.

pw, isn't he an angry hedgehog I recently learned?
I'm not an angry hedgehog, just one that gets annoyed with incompetence and ignorance.
And @soleam87, I literally lol'd at that space comment.

Yea, i see that sometimes it is easier to just post that quick thread to get that little affirmation on a buy or feelgood. I honestly think that yes new threads must be created, cause this is not an archive website where every problem is the same road or just a slight variation. But when I'm reading a thread I like to ^see it progress (the 05.5-06 fuel issue thread is a beautiful example of what I mean) in a format kinda like this--> hey I got this issue-->members input-**>issue resolved-**> new member with same issue but slightly diff-**> repeat.
But I admit even I get bored and eventually lose focus after page 8 when fafa and checho ruin the thread...
I guess Im tired of the stale state that has become the main discussion, it's all about secret mods and reveals. And simple mods that everyone does. Not saying that occasionally a wheel fitment, or what brand valve stem a majority of people prefer, can't be somewhat entertaining. But seriously who cares what brand plug you use, or how hard is an oil change that we need to create three DIYs???
I guess I just take for granted being mechanically inclined? Just don't have patience for some people and I know I have been a bit harsh in the past because of it :-/
And yes if any of you didn't already know, I was the worst kind of chrome grilled 4x4 newb.. Lol
I don't really create threads.. Just post in others.
I figure it takes less time to search then wait for someone to reply. Not always but I am just impatient. Plus there is a 95% chance it's been covered. I did get some shit a while back about creating a thread about how stoked I was with my APR Tune and the shop that did it. Not like I cared, I was giving praise to a respectable company and also a great shop. Not asking how to change an air filter... haha.
helping people is good, but not everyone spends hours on audizine. they are probably looking to solve their problems and move on with their lives. unless you shut down free registration for the site, its not going away. its like that on any public internet forum ive ever seen. choosing to expect otherwise is to set yourself up for a big and very avoidable disappointment.
i agree its at least a little irritating, so just stop answering questions that have been answered with the answer well publicized. they'll find the answer if they care to.
its not a new car, or something with a booming aftermarket. original topics of conversation about the car are going to be harder to come by lacking some unlikely surge of one-off projects, or rekindled interest in the vehicle.
so, i guess the solution is to enjoy your car, and maybe talk about it a little if you want.

I have been lurking AZ for about a year now. For my first few months I posted VERY infrequently. For fear of some serious flamage that I had seen some others go through. Now, after searching and researching for so long, I finally feel comfortable with posting a little more often and not so scared of making a damn fool of myself. This forum is truly amazing in the amount of information that it has available. I'm not kidding when I say that AZ has probably saved me several thousands of dollars, kept me from making some pretty serious mistakes both mod and maintenance wise, as well as saving me tons of head aches, and providing me with countless hours of entertainment and drooling material. For all of that, I would like to thank all of you here at AZ.
On another note; I was a newb not to long ago, and some might still consider me as one. So it's hard for me to be to harsh on the new guys. I just try to point them in the right direction, or simply don't post at all.

I'm going on three years here, and honestly, it's always been like this. I have over 2000 posts and have never been told to search. I am a searching fool. If I can't find it on AZ, then I google it with AZ in the search as well. It seems like the dumb threads are always there, but they trend for certain topics. It doesn't bother me none. The longer we are here, the more things we are going to feel should be common knowledge, even though noobs don't know half the shit we do. I agree, new members should have more restrictions, like not being able to start a thread unless they have a certain number of posts or something. Kind of like you can't be a noob and start shit up in the tech section.
But then you get people just posting random shit to get their post count up. But i guess stupid posts are better than stupid threads.
it's a balance for dudes like me.
i started on audiworld because it was friendlier to noobs and i didn't want to get schooled for being one.
when i came over, i knew i needed to learn more to be of any use to this community. so i searched, learned and rarely started my own thread except to [hopefully] help y'all out or whore my car. yeah, i post here and there, but it's mostly to offer thoughts per my experience and keep my post count up. i have wheels to sell!
overall, i leave it to you tried and true folks to tell it like it is and help me, even if you don't know it, better my audi [tuning] experience.
common sense on the internetz is priceless. you can't teach that shit. there will always be people coming in/out of this community doing annoying shit.
