2.8 GT 2868 Full Build!

Went to the shop today!!! Here's a few pics of the updated work. Have to order more odds & ends from Bryan at Audis4parts......
Heads are on. New TB kit on, valley pan on. Few more things to wrap up before the turbo's get here!!! We'll see how much time I get to work on this over the next 4 weeks.

I haven't seen anything bad about Tilton's. I'll keep looking into it some more.

I'm not by a comp or I would post my pics of the failed clutch. I think I made a thread about it on here somewhere.

They are unsprung discs so the Trans has to mounted perfectly straight or you will get uneven stress on the hub, which is what caused mine fail, tilton said.

Evil- I think I remember you posting your tilton issues and I understand that one reason for a sprung disc is to take up the 'slack' when aligning a motor/trans and to decrease stress if not perfectly straight..

That being said did tilton recommend a way to properly align your transmission? Or simply say sorry your issue and claim it was 'improperly installed?'

Nope, they just said it needs to be aligned perfectly straight. Said it was my problem. Vast wouldn't take responsibility even though they installed it. So I was shit out of luck.

A little post Holiday madness update.

Received a slew of parts from Bryan at audis4parts, the week before Christams.
coolant piping, brackets, dip stick camshaft censors and some other little things needed.

The turbo kit will be shipping this week, hopefully have it by Thursday or Friday. Once it's here I'll have some pics to update you all on. That will go on some time in the next two weeks and will finish up the engine. I'm sure I'll be hitting Bryan up again for some other needed small parts.

Still haven't completely decided on a clutch yet, have a bit of time though.

I would assume if all the bolts weren't torqued exactly the same it could be off a tiny bit. Either way, it shouldn't have been my problem.

Thanks! Heading to the shop in the am to start getting it put together.

no other updates as of now had to hit up Bryan at audis4parts for small parts needed. should be on the engine end of next week.

Well we've got the exhaust manifolds and turbos mounted. Waiting on one more oil feed line, which will be here tomorrow and then we can wrap up the turbos and wastegates. Also have more parts coming from Bryan at Audis4parts and then all accessories, belts will go on and the intake manifold will be on as well. Then for the most part the engine will be completed. Then it's time to order clutch/FW, SMIC's, Fuel pump setup & fueling and tuning(EPL).
Will have another update next week most likely

Here's a couple update pics.



Well as you cans see we've got the intake manifold on and all coolant lines, 034 Aux delete on & oil lines ran. Timing belt and such all on and ready to go. Waiting on a spare trans to ensure fitment and put on external wastegates and wastegate dumps.

Next few weeks will not see much in the ways of progress, I've got one last large order with Max at 034 that I need to place, clutch, flywheel, SMIC's, Fuel pump & surge tank, fuel lines, billet fuel rails & some other parts needed. Plus I leave for a 2 week vacation in a little over 4 weeks. Once I've got the order from Max the only thing left really is fueling/tuning from EPL and throw the this thing in the car and see what happens. Looking at some time around May that I should have the engine in the car and start the dyno tuning.

I'll update when I've got more progress.

Nice. Just a heads up, I don't know how/where your wastegate dumps are routed, but we had to weld on a metal elbow where the heater core tube connects to the passenger's side of the coolant hardline, because the wastegate routing was so close to the plastic elbow it probably would've melted it.

Thanks for heads up Mike. I'm trying to locate a junk trans for mock up on the dumps on the waste gates for this purpose.
